The video has timecode because it's not the actual pilot. It's an edit of our favorite moments, including all of Norm's digressions, many of which the network had no use for. But they all worked, and in front of a typical game show audience. Just as he was great on a wide range of talk shows, Norm could make anyone laugh if given the chance.

this was remade in the UK as Blanketty Blank initially with a host called Terry Wogan, but remade later with the host being Les Dawson, a bluff, deadpan, northern comedian, which was its best years. The funny thing about seeing repeats is you can only recognise like 50% of the people on there. And who are the other 50% who were famous enough at that point to be on this popular show, yet vanished forever. Also due to British tv rules at the time, like all game shows, all the prizes were bloody awful and cheap

Norm and Super Dave on the same show… how did this NOT get picked up?! Those 2 are HILARIOUS when they’re together. Should have sat them next to each other.
Fans of the original show will not be interested in overtly sexual crap, and the game was changed. Plus, the cast and host aren’t as good individually nor collectively. New viewers probably thought it was slow and unhumorous.
@@Jay_Sullivan There was plenty of sexual innuendos with Gene Rayburn, just watch some of the many older shows available on YT to see what I mean. That said this game show host is irritating. Gene Rayburn was a prefect host and made the show what it was.

@@bobbyd6680 , I've seen plenty of those. The vast marjority of references weren't overt. When they started doing Match Game PM, it was a bit worse, but it still wasn't as bad as this. The worst they said was "boobies."

To the people asking about the set: This was the recreation built for Game Show Marathon on CBS (also on CZcams) and it was a pilot for TBS, so the FCC wouldn’t have been involved since it’s cable, not broadcast. It was designed to run after 11pm

"Norm MacDonald Live" was the funniest talk show ever made, on any platform. Bar none. There's only a couple full episodes up now, and some clips. I hope like hell someone puts the entire bizarre, hilarious series back up on youtube.

But then it was over and the host ruined his career by focusing on hosting a show where all they did was talk about a different show they just watched. Except for a brief kerfluffle about some dubious sexual harassment claim, I don't think he's been heard from since.

The show was just an excuse to get up-and-coming comedians some airtime, and sometimes they were actually pretty funny.
There was a revival of Match Game on Canadian television about a decade ago and Norm was a regular on it for a while. He really made the show.
So on top of everything else he accomplished,Norm was the Richard Dawson of Canada!

I just watched 30 minutes of everybody on the show being hired to play The Match Game, and absolutely nobody knowing how to play the match game. Every minute of it was glorious.

I'm supremely impressed by how they put together that panel. Granted, everyone's definitely bringing their own personality here, but Sarah's energy feels not far off from Brett's, Scott's not far from Charles's, and Norm's not far from Richard's. Dave, Rashida, and Niecy's seats tended to rotate, but also tended to have a certain vibe to them, which the three also managed to match. The fact that this exists is just surreal. It's like an alternate dimension's version of the 70's Match Game, in every possible way.
None of this crew is anywhere near creepy enough to match the original cast, though. Richard Dawson and the host in particular always struck me as absolute leering perverts, even as a little kid. Watching that old stuff now is *super* cringey.
Funny here. Maybe Silverman was a fan of the original show because she said EXACTLY the same thing as RILEY said to BRETT "the point is to match the guest to win them money" etc.

Started off a bit rough - too many people trying to make everything funny, and the first question was not great. Got better as the questions improved and the panel members dialed it back a bit.
Very apropos that they put Norm in the Richard Dawson seat, and Scott Thompson in Charles Nelson Reilly seat.
