    Excellent Troubleshooting assessment, I am having issues with a 2008 Volvo XC70. The belt tightening and alignment is a great way to check the steering pump as well as removing the belt and see if the noise stops. BRILLIANT and Thank You so much !! Could you do a video on how to rebuild a Steering Pump, that would be AWESOME :))

    I went through two new reman pumps. Whining after bleeding several timesThey are JUNK. Better off with a junkyard oem. Slapped it in n had zero noise. Barely bled it.

      Did you reman pump fail l, leaving you stranded, hopefully NOT or were you so annoyed by the noise that you just swapped it immediately with a Junkyard Oem?

      It didn't fail. Just impossible to get air out for some reason.. Just the annoying noise which means air is in it. Even turning up the radio didn't help lol. It shouldn't have noise at all. Even the shop said "It will quiet down over time." ( total BS) And thats AFTER they changed my power steering leak and bleeding the pump themselves with no success.

    Nice Video and Content.....I had a whine. Coming from that area, replaced the belt tensioner, belt and water pump...190,000 miles...the vanes in the water pump were almost all gone....Noise was absent after running with belt off, Power Steering pump finally died. Needless to say noise disappeared after replacement...
    Once again Thanks for the video..😊

    To burp or clear air in power steering pump, you said to simply turn steering wheel left and right. Q, do this while engine is turned on? And, with cap on or off on steering pump?

      The cap can stay on

    • @SouthsideTile
      @SouthsideTile Před 7 měsíci +8

      You can also do it with the cap off, it's not gonna throw fluid all over. I just did mine last night. I think I did it the best way, which is to have two people. My old man stayed in the driver seat while I stayed up on the hood. Kept the cap off and looking inside the pump. When he turned the wheel to the left, it opened up the pump and sucked down the fluid. When he turned it back right, it put a little back to the pump, but not all of it. So then I added more fluid, and we did this a couple times until it wasn't taking fluid anymore, and there were no more air bubbles. Solid red fluid, staying at the proper steady level, good to go!!

    • @photondebuger45
      @photondebuger45 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Ah but you can do this with the engine off here's what you do one jack up your car and put it on stands IT HAS TO BE STANDS. You can just get it off the ground like till you see light under the tire. Then second turn your key to the run unlock position if you have a steering wheel lock in it then rotate the tires to the left and right lock to lock. I do that to avoid making a pump run without oil through the pump vanes it's quite fast too. Sometimes it'll like blerp out if you fill it really high. Do it that way it'll take like 5 minutes to bleed it then start it and see how it is on the ground. Pump works great after that too.

    The sway is progressing. I have no resources where i am. I have cranked it both ways...i tried overfilling and cranking.. im not losing fluid quickly...and the only leak I saw was when i took tension off belt.and it has a slow drip. But enough to empry ststem within a few hours.
    What can i try next...replace pump or how do i fix seal?

Because now, the pulley tensioner is moving (inconsistent tension), and that movement increases when I turn the steering wheel. Have you seen something like this before?

      It's possible that might be it. However, make sure the power steering belt didn't fall off or is loose. Next, make sure power steering fluid is full at the reservoir. Next, check for growling nosie from the power steering pump. If there is noise the power steering pump is failing (make sure to check fluid level). Lastly, check for leaks at the steering rack/rack and pinion boot. Hope that helps!
