      Scotty Kilmer so i had my power steering pump replaced because of a high piched whining..1 month later it is now whining when it wants to but the tone of the noise is much deeper. The mechanic says it will do it again if he replaces it which is obviously an argument for him to get out of doing it. Could there be another reason why i would hear the noise. Oh and yes it is full of fluid and its a 2007 ford focus

    Scotty my son is taking mechanics at the career and technology center at his high school and we absolutely love your videos! He won’t say it but I think he’s impressed when his mama knows a thing or two about cars which I’ve mainly learned from your CZcams videos! Right now he has a 2005 z71 Tahoe I got him for his 16th birthday that started making a sound when turning at low speeds. I told him to check his power steering fluid and that was the problem :) we’ve also repaired the antenna, the gauge cluster dimmer switch, oil changes, and the fog light button that was broken all DIY

    I have a 2003 Ford Explorer that was making more of a rubbing sound. this continued for a couple of months when I finally decided to open up the hood and check my reservoirs. It turned out that my power steering reservoir was only about a quarter full so I went to O'Reilly's and bought a $4 bottle of power steering fluid and put it in. It immediately stopped the noise so I am very grateful it wasn't very expensive to get fixed. the reason I am making a comment is because those power steering problem does not necessarily have to be a whining noise. Mine was more of a rubbing sound so I hope this helps someone. Thank you for your good video.

    How would I know if its the power steering pump or the power steering pressure switch?

    • @Abdu86x
      @Abdu86x Před 4 lety +1

      Measure the pressure of the pump by pressure gage. And turn the wheel end to end while its running and reading is ok then pressure switch is fine. More check bypass by close to the gage valve for 4 seconds if pressure go high its bypass valve issue. If pressure go low the bypass switch works.

    Hi Scotty love your videos! So my 98 Camry the rack and pinion was leaking. I replaced it with a remanufactured part over the weekend. It went well and I have no leaks but I have a question about turning the wheel all the way to the stops. If I go all the way either left or right I hear a squealing sound. There's a lot of confusion on the internet what this could be a loose belt a faulty failing pump? Kind of hoping you can clear this up! Other than going to the complete left to right the new rack is working beautifully.

    Hey Scotty!
    I recently hit a curb in the snow with my 2005 Acura TL. Turned right into a small road at 15-20km/h and all the impact slammed into my left driver wheel. I need to get the entire suspension replaced on the left driver side but something strange also happened with my Power steering pump.
    I jacked up the car when I got home and turned the steering from one side to the other. I can hear gushing sounds from my car and my brother told me that fluid was leaking out the top of the cap. (With the cap ON)
    After a while, the liquid stopped leaking and when I checked the levels, it was exactly on the "upper" mark with the steering straight. What exactly happened here? My steering feels a bit looser. Easier to turn the wheel. Feels like a new hyundai santa fe in comfort steering mode but I know it should be like that lol.
    Thanks in advance,

    • @YuStudios
      @YuStudios Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah I drove 2 hours out to a junkyard that had a manual TL left side suspension. They're rare to find in Toronto.
      Replaced the suspension today and the car feels better. Power steering isn't grinding or leaking anymore when doing a full turn.
      Unfortunately the ABS on the junkyard part was busted so I'm trying without traction control...
      Mechanic also told me the subframe was cracked a little too which is bad news. I really don't want to spend $1000s+ to fix the subframe if it's drivable. Are there any risks to driving with the subframe a little cracked?

      There was a guy who died several years ago on the north part of the island I live on. The jack failed and the car crushed him to death. A jack is not meant for stabilizing the vehicle when lifted off of its wheels. Jack stands are meant for this purpose.

    hey scotty!
    i have 2 problems
    i have a 2016 lexus RX
    and today the temps dropped to 18 degrees (Yikes)
    i got the car in May, and no issues until recently
    first today i noticed the steering column squeaks every few mins in the cold this morning and this afternoon after i started them. but after almost a 2 hour drive, it went away.
    is that normal for the the drastic temp drop?
    also i hear a faint squeak from the rear passenger side. near the trunk. ONLY when the back end drops as in when i go over a speed bump or a deep pothole. the trunk is completely empty but i have a feeling its the shock? would i be able to hear a shock squeak inside the car?

    Mr. Kilmer, I was told more then 40 years ago not to use Teflon Tape on the power steering or transmission connectors and here you are doing just what I was told not to do so question how is the Teflon Tape working out for you is the fluid degrading the tape and later causing leaks or is it holding up over time ?

    Quick question, my power steering on my 2002 Toyota Highlander may be having issues, but I have replaced the fluid but I’m not sure if all the air is out of the system. The steering is stiff when the car starts from cold, but once the car is warmed up it’s ok. And thank you for your help if you can see this.

    I saw a jar of moonshine in the super market the other day. My Gran Pa used to make it and just pass it out in a plastic milk gallon. My Mom told me he took her on a two day ride to his site and explained the situation like this, "There's s mountain lion that lives in the cave above. If he get's us, you get on the donkey. He knows the way home on his own." Americans are hated to a small extent because we are so spoiled. People like Scotty help make us great again through ingenuity and self reliance. Hello Scottie quick question, I did a complete flush on my power steering system on my 2005 GMC Sierra, I replaced it with the oil from Chevy dealer per the owners manual, but now it makes the grinding noise like in your video and didn't do it before the flush. Could it still be the switch? Thanks & great videos

    Just had a power steering switch leaking like crazy.... it Drained my entire fluid tank in minutes and led to smoking and bad noises like crazy.
    Replaced the switch.... Filled it back up..... After driving about 20-30 mins it seems to be back to normal. Noises cleared away " Fingers crossed 🤞".
    Hoping it holds and is not a pump issue.... Mine seems impossible to access - 2008 mercury milan.
    But so far not leaking and holding up. Great video and info 😁👍

    One day I was moving too fast and put brake fluid in my power steering pump. From that point on, when I steering the wheel has been making a whining sound at certain positions. I sucked all the fluid out and put new fluid. It got better but not gone completely. It now only happens when I turn to the left when under a load (actually driving). Any ideas on what I should do?
