Do you see how those bluegill you were catching have a black circle on their gills? Shellcrackers also have the black circle on their gills but the edge of the black circle is red, which is why shellcrackers are called Redear Sunfish. The body shape of a shellcracker is also not as short and round as a bluegill. A shellcracker’s body is more elongated kinda like a crappie. I have caught some really big shellcracker that I thought was a crappie before I got it out of the water because they also tend to have the same silver looking coloration as crappie. Male shellcracker also get really dark when they spawn just like male crappie

dad called them sun perch .. so good eating and fishing .. had to catch a becket in the morning so he would take me skiing ,, then bait the trote lines out in the evening ... great childhood

Them are not shellcracker. That’s a red beast blue gill shell cracker have red dots above the black on the side of there heads.

Comal weighted bobber. Use em all the time trout and crappie fishing. Sweet bluegills! Wish we had them in numbers here!

Try using a black beetle spin with a slow retrieve. It's an All World lure on blue gill. Nice fish

Nice catching, but the first gills are copper nose gills... i bought these fingerings from Alabama to stock my northern California pond.

Hey, I found out the lake was stocked with coppernose bluegill and redear. Although all I caught was coppernose bluegill. They electrosurveyed several this year at the one pound mark. You are correct! Thanks for the comment and TIGHT LINES!!
