I've just finished reading All About Love and I've decided to start watching as many bell hooks videos as I can. What a woman, what a legacy she's left behind!
Would you recommend it for a male? I'm reading one of the other books in the series that I got for my little sister and might read this one in the future
@@BaldwinFanonGarveyTureShakurX I think it's a great book for a man to read. It's been a while since I last read it but I think she even mentions the fact that the majority of relationship books out there are for women. It would be good if there were more relationship books aimed at men.
I’m in the same boat rn. What a beautifully well spoken human. She’s inspiring and powerful. I feel entirely grateful to have access to her words! Spotify has a few good lectures of hers, too. ❤❤
I threw away my kindness all for the gratification of being seen as a real man by my peers and it was foolish and idiotic. If I could take it back I would. But it's lovely to see that this revelation has already been known by people far smarter than me. I hope more people listen to Bell Hooks before they even consider listening to Andrew Tate.
“When you live in a country that makes truth something that is associated with the painful, that should not be spoken, it becomes hard to get people to value speaking freely because there are things that we have to say that will be wounding.” A whole word, yes.
Sitting with the power and depth of her words always: "The moment we choose to love we begin to move against domination, against oppression. The moment we choose to love we begin to move towards freedom, to act in ways that liberate ourselves and others." - Outlaw Culture: Resisting Representations, 1994
I will never forget a meeting in New York with a perfect stranger of another race discussing her books with me for hours in the mid early hours. He saw me with the book, Salvation and invited himself into my private world of solitude. It was a great conversation! He and I were great admirers of this great writer. Thank you bell hooks. The world will never forget you. You taught us so much about ourselves. For that, you are engraved in our hearts, soul and MIND!!!❤
We live through stories, in stories and based on stories... very few of the stories I have ever experienced, had no healthy example of love. Give us stories of healthy love and then live those stories, give them breath and a heartbeat with your breath and your heartbeats.
It's the emergence of exposing the inner nature of people and revealing the layers of domination to keep people from being truly happy. Her description of Life is on point
I don't believe that everyone will enjoy the teachings of Bell Hooks, but my hope is that her message touches as many people as possible. I believe that Bell Hooks is modest, but she is also confident, positive and hopeful for the future. There is nothing wrong with that. I have read quite a few of her books and they have a lot to teach us. Read on people, read on.
God, I wish modern radicals and the Left took after her philosophy more. Because there is censorship and close-mindedness and binary thinking galore on both sides of the political spectrum nowadays that I find very concerning.
Black feminists have been for decades, in the US and Europe, but the white Left long resisted to the ideas and perspectives of bell hooks, Angela Davis and other black feminist thinkers.
Shatarupa why do you generalize? Republicans, especially under Chump, have been moving closer and closer to fascism. Maybe you should consider that as a general problem of people who are in power, whether right or left
I hear a lot about censorship from the left - but what would be instances of censorship on the right? Would love to hear what you think are the most pernitent examples of right-wing censorship going on.
Now I know why her name is Bell. She is the melodic alarm that sounds to all of us, that our right to free speech and dissent is being stripped silently, from all sides. Critical thought is becoming the scapegoat of political agenda. Silence is the death knell of democracy. Grateful to hear her thoughts.
Never heard of Bell Hooks here in the UK and I wonder why that is? This female feels like the kind of women that should be in the mainstream and I want to know more about her. Her education feels huge just from this one video and the host is doing a great job of allowing her to talk, we don't have much of that today. She came to my attention through Brene Brown and look forward to reading more about her teaching.
all the andrew tate, bro culture, sexism resurgence going on these days has me feeling so disconnected. i’ve been turning to Bell Hooks to remind me that men do in fact have a softer side, no matter how much deny it
Just finished her book “all about love”. It really widened my horizon. I had the feeling that there were a lot of things I might not have fully understood (not a native English speaker!) but after reading her book, I admire bell hooks for sure!
Thankful that voices such as hers have gone before me as a writer and thinker. She's been on my periphery but I'm finally getting acquainted with her work. Thanks for sharing!!
I am so touched as a black female Bell Hooks and her books has greatly inspired me when I listen to this clearly educated speaker I feel a sense of hope and a sense of I'm not crazy she say's the things that I've had thought about having a voice is so important.
I like that ,"People are Hungry for Truth", Yes, and a language that identifies it, we can't change it, until we can name what we are feeling, and LOVE IS TRUTH, I just found these, Bell Hooks interviews, in 2020, my friend sent 1 to me
I've read much of bell hooks' work. But, never watched her on youtube. I was really late getting on the youtube train. Thankfully, I can now hear her voice. The tragedy is the market place. So, you can't always say what you want to say.
Thank you for uploading this interview, your work in disseminating the work of hooks is much appreciated. I feel like this interview could have been conducted today. The 'culture of dominance' struck a chord with me as I think about the larger events currently taking place in many parts of the world. I wonder if there could be more work by hooks that can be relevant to the sociology of criminology.
rev. angel Kyodo Williams has a speech where she talks about "it's not all about love" and speaks about Bell Hooks a little. But it isn't a "Bell Hooks is wrong" thing, what she's talking about is what Ms Hooks says here "care is only one ingredient of love." "If someone is hurting you/abusing you they are not loving you." And she speaks also to the widespread abuse in our society. In that talk she names what Ms Hooks speaks about often in many of her books about one of those other ingredients. It's Justice. If we don't give justice there isn't room for love. If we don't have justice in our hearts we cannot really love.
Avoiding conflict…as a nation we are lying more and more, I think we have to connect that to an absence of free speech, because when you live in a country that makes truth something that is associated with a painful that should not be spoken, it becomes hard to get people to value speaking freely….
The most brilliant intellectual of our modern times. Period. Prescient in her comments about culture of domination, pre-Trump election. You must watch.
It is very sad to watch Bell discuss people being hungry for truth after Trump's election. Apparently people think they want the truth, but what they actually want is only a version of their own truth...I hope Bell's vision comes true regardless
@Audrey. That is mostly true however nothing related to the truth is associated with the Trump administration given the documented evidence that Trump has lied over 10,000 times. This means that Trump is lying and/or putting out distorted information several times per day every day!!
since i first "discovered" her at chrone's harvest, age 12, the now non-existent lesbian bookstore lol. i used to ride my bike there with my bumper sticker on my bag "a woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle"...i thought that was so cool. :)

I just adore bell hooks. I’m sorry she’s no longer with us in body, but so very grateful for her work, thoughts, courage and teaching. Ever grateful.

She is always spot on.
This is Ridiculous I am only a minute she was a trader of our community but rip
To truly choose to love is a heroic act!
AGREED!!!
This is a life shattering truth. Nowadays so much aggression, conservatism and even corruption. Change must come 🔥 😔

What an inspiration. As a woman, it is already such a thing to speak up, let alone speak freely. I carry her in my heart.
