Janis wore her soul like a blanket trying to protect her from pain, hurt, anger, & even love! This woman was one of a kind, & sadly missed by everyone who loved & understood her music ❤ 💚 💙 She truly was a gift that was only with us for a short time, but what a glorious time it was!!! Thank you for such a thoughtful reaction, & I hope you continue to discover her music, you won't be disappointed ❤ 💚 💙 I highly recommend, Ball & Chain & Cry Baby!!!

I love how your face looks the first few seconds after she starts singing. It's like looking at a little kid's face, the first time they see a fireworks display. I love seeing that kind of childlike awe on an adult's face. It's adorable.

Janis Joplin was a one of a kind singer with a unique voice. Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. She had a lot of great songs such as "Me & Bobby McGee", "Piece Of My Heart", "Cry Baby", "Ball & Chain", "Down On Me", "Maybe", "Little Girl Blue", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over" & her original song "Mercedes Benz".

“Move Over” is possibly my fav - it makes no sense since this song and “Ball and Chain” are at least two that immediately offer a reasonable claim to stand aa more obvious choices because of their respective greatnesses, but something about “Move Over” just resonates with me.

    Summertime
    And the livin' is easy
    Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton, the cotton is high
    Oh, your daddy, he's rich
And your ma', she's good lookin'
    So hush, little baby
    Don't you cry
    One of these mornings
    You're gonna rise up singing
    You gonna spread your wings
And take, and take to the sky
    Until that morning
    Ain't nothing can harm you
With daddy (daddy) and mammy (mammy) standing by (oh, standing by)

Same here, and true with a lot of artists. That generation laid down the bedrock of what we call "popular music", which drew together the multiple strands of music, jazz, blues, ragtime, classical, folk etc and created 90% of its canon. Popular music was itself a genre and is, in my opinion, over, in the same way that classical, jazz, opera etc are over. It fragmented into new, isoteric strands with niche appeal, some of which can barely be described as "music" at all.

Watch her live performances & interviews on The Dick Cavett show they had chemistry She was always at her best on his show. Dick Cavett himself is as they say "real". He had a way of putting most of his guests at ease because he didn't play dirty by dropping bomb questions. Both he and Janis had exceptionally brilliant minds.
