Thank you very much! I appreciate the support.
Nice well ✔️
Thank you very much.
Andy the sled is genius! Rather than using the first cut off though I think I might consider installing a toggle clamp on each stop to hold the piece in place!
That's a GREAT idea. I will be sure to have some on hand for my next build.
I make similar ones that I donate to various churches for the Christmas bake sales. My difference is I paint them a white and green rustic look, and I hang smaller ornaments (usually 1-1 1/2" red bells) from small eyehooks. The eyehooks take the longest time in the process to put in the tops of the holes.
That's a great idea to donate them.
You could easily double the number of trees you get out of each board. After you've drawn your lines, DON'T cut out the holes yet. Make your straight cuts first, then glue the off cuts together to make another identical triangle. Cut the holes afterward, and just like that, you have twice the trees. You can use the piece of scrap left over from the initial cuts to make the bases.
I have also considered this method. It's a great idea. Thank you.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that saw that
See what you're sayin!! The ''second'' trees would be a bit smaller, but you'd need a ruler to notice!
Thank you for sharing your tip.
Andy great job !
Glad you enjoyed it
This is really neat and simple. Just wish i had seen this earlier lol. Oh well it just gives me more time for next year. Have a Merry Christmas
There are still a few hours until Christmas. You could make a couple haha.
Thank you for teaching and sharing your talents with us!
Thank you. I really appreciate the support.
I Love it!...One Button Simple!
Thank you very much.
There is another video out there that shows how to cut the angles on the chop saw. Granted, they're not 1x8. The person uses simple 1x6 fence pickets and cuts, I believe 22-degree angles. Thus, there is no need for the table saw.
I will have to check it out.
Love the sled, I would have thrown that first cut away like a goof and cut the other side on the bandsaw 🤦🏼🤣
I'm glad I included it!
I made several of these last year. Easy and fun to make. Love them. Thanks for sharing.
I'm glad you enjoy them. It's probably my favorite tree that I've made.
Nice, thanks ☺
Thank you.
Nice job you are doing keep going
Thanks for the support.
thank you, Andy, for this video! I will make about 20 of these for Christmas gifts.....Perry
That's great! I should have more Christmas videos coming out soon. I appreciate your support.
I started making them today. Great Job. Thanks.
Glad you're enjoying the videos. Thank you for your support and good luck on the projects.
What a fun project! I _will_ be making a few of these! And ya know... There is a way to get more trees out of a board with fewer cuts and with no gluing of the offcuts together. If you want a tree where the height is 15", and the base is 7 1/4", then that makes each of the sides of the tree 15 7/16" long, because... math. If you align one of those tree sides along the edge of the board, that makes the angle of the base of the tree about 13.5 degrees (13.586) away from a right angle cut across the board.
So, if you set your miter saw to 14 degrees (close enough), make the first miter cut through the corner and across the board to cut off the first sliver and get a clean end, then use that same angle without flipping the board and miter cut each successive 15 7/16" piece thereafter, then split each of these 'two-tree' chunks diagonally in half using the sled as shown (except now it's only one cut, down the middle corner to corner), you'll get 12 15" trees from a 1x8x96 board, using the smallest number of cuts (13), and with very little waste (just the two small ends of the board).
To check those angles and sizes, or if you want to do a different size with no math, cut the first tree as shown, then lay its side along the edge of the board with its base at the end and strike a line along its base, to find the angle to miter cut across the board.
I will give that a try next time I build them. Thank you for taking the time to write out that whole explanation.
@@cedarriverwoodworking My pleasure. And it does occur to me that a 7.25 base will only go edge to edge across a 7.25 board with a right angle. Tipping it over 14 degrees will make it fall somewhat shy of the other edge. But it still should fall within a fudge factor of about the width of the saw blade's kerf, when you split the chunk down the middle to make the two trees. It might take a small bit of fiddling the first time to get it precise. But then again it's an item of decor and not machining watch parts.... :)
Thanks again for the idea, and the well-presented video!
Hi Andy, I love these trees, but, I would put smaller ornaments on it. x
What size would you use?
@@cedarriverwoodworking Hi Andy, I would definitely use smaller one's. Also, I would not glue them on, as I think, it makes something really lovely look cheap. I do not know the size you used, but, definitely go smaller. Sorry, it is easy to bitch at someone else's work. Really, what do I know, I have only just started woodworking at 73. I love it, screw up a lot, but, having so much fun x Happy Christmas to you and yours x
Love this idea.. well done!!
Thank you so much.
@@cedarriverwoodworking welcome
Nice idea, but i think hooks hanging down to hold the ornaments would look & work a lot better. They would jiggle about a bit & look nicer. You could also cut smaller holes toward the top (and use smaller ornaments) & use larger holes as you move down. All in all, a pretty easy project. Thanks.
Thank you for the suggestions. I'll give them a try as I move forward. Thank you for your support.
Another great project! Im glad i subscribed when i saw your first one! Thanks for projects that are easily completed by beginners and young-uns! Nice, nice, nice!
Thank you so much for your support and kind words.
Just subscribed and definitely enjoyed! Headed to the shop to make one this afternoon!!!! 👍🏼❤️😎
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with your project.
Great job and video thanks for sharing enjoyed it Be safe God Bless
Thank you for the kind words and your support.
Great little project 🎄
Thank you! I appreciate the support.
I think your sled idea was genius!
Thank you very much! I didn't come up with the idea but it's helped me on many many builds in the past.
Be fun to make a insertable one.
What do you mean?
Excellent and you made it look so simple
Thank you for your support.
I like red
Red would look really nice on them.
Nice job! Great idea! Subbed! Happy Holidays!
Thank you for your support.
Nice! I would add a mini star ornament to 'top' it off!
That's a great idea. Would you make one, or build one?
@@cedarriverwoodworking - I would just purchase mini-ornaments that they sell at Walmart!
Cool tree
why don't he just go straight down with the saw instead of pulling it towards himself?
@@carmennole1130 What do you mean?
It aids in helping relieve any internal stresses in the wood so it doesn't bind.
I drill small holes and use thread to hang the balls
Great suggestion!
Other than the hot glue I loved it
I agree the hot glue isn't the greatest method. Have you found a better wat to attach ornaments? I appreciate your support.
Great little project and something I will be doing with my scraps, perhaps some glued up fence pickets, new and used. found several good ideas in the comments
I'm always a fan of fence picket builds for projects like this.
I love this little tree! I would use blue and silver. Could you put an I hook or cup hook in to hold the ornaments? I might like to switch my color out. Very cool build! Look at you on your way to 2k!
May need smaller ornaments to be able to use cup hooks, but that's a great idea. Thank you for your continued support.
Great project!! New subscriber here
Thank you, and thank you for your support.
I just found your site. Love this tree. Is there enough room to put a small hook to hang the ornament? Looking forward to watching more. 😊
you could. you may need smaller ornaments however.
You can put a green wash on by mixing green latex pant and water. Wipe it on with a cloth and wipe excess off.
That's a great tip. thanks for sharing.
Hi Andy, love love this! Super new to wood working (?) do you drill/cut the 3” hole within the tree line? Or half in half out? Thank you! Got a new subscriber!
Thank you for subscribing. about 3/4 of the hole is in the tree. there is some outside the line.
If you drill the holes for the bulbs. [center of hole is on the outside edge of the tree ] this means the top of the bulb is out side the tree .you said you used a 3'' hole saw , move the mark up a 1 1/2 '' and move the mark in a1/4'' or so then square a line up from the bottem then mark your hole 7''' down .Your hole center is moved in a bit . now your bulb will hang in the center.
yes I didn't drill exactly on my mark. I wanted a little more than a half circle on the edges. This gives it a little bit more character.
Hey man, great stuff.
Can you do a similar post on best way to make stars?
Thank you 👍🏼
I actually have been in the process of making videos on starts. They should be out soon.
Awesome, great work and thank you 🙏🏼
I have made 15 trees and evolved them slightly.
If I could send a picture to you for your opinion, that would be cool?
Thanks again

What do you market these at in your area?
Thanks for you support. I sell them at $20 each. They went very quickly at that price last year.
Great idea. Where did you get the hole saw from?
I got them off of Amazon. Here is a kit. You can also buy them individually. amzn.to/40eWHsq
Thank you for you’re quick response
If you don't cut your holes first, your cut off pieces can be glued together to give you another tree
Absolutely a good take on them. I'll give it a try.
Did you make or buy the copper curly q's you used to hold the bulbs in the last part of the video. If you bought them, where?
They were purchased at Michael's craft store.
Andy, can you give us a link or give me a name for these curly-ques?
I don't know what to call them, therefore I'm having difficulty finding them. Thanks. PS: I am a new subscriber.@@cedarriverwoodworking
@@pteddie6965 I appreciate the subscription. Here is a link to them, I will also put it in the video description. amzn.to/455Z95v
Where did you buy the key hole cutter

Hey at 5:19 mark. what was the thing that showed up in slot of table saw in lower right? Nice idea btw.
I'm not exactly sure what you see at that timestamp. Thank you for your support however.
air hose
It looks like a Praying mantis. Look at it during the time marks of 4:39 to 5:22 it looks like a Praying mantis moving around.
@@greatgrandpaswoodworking you do see that air powered nail gun he is using? What color is that air hose? Yes it is Praying Mantis green.
@@greatgrandpaswoodworking OH through the keyhole slot for the router extension? it's the air hose for the nailer.
the size of the sled im thinking a toggle to hold the second cut tree
Toggle clamps are a great idea.
What state you located in?
In a state of eternal greatfullness that so many people want to watch the videos that I've made.
I'm guessing that the hot glue didn't hold the ornaments because the finished tree that is last shown doesn't have them glued. I'm just curious as to why you didn't say anything about it or showed what you did.
They are actually ornamate hangers that are glued onto the front face. I do have a link for them in the video description. They just give a little more visual interest. I apologize for not showing how to attach those.
Couldn't you make the tree but slip 2 peices together like a x and you could have 4 ornaments not just 2 and a flat tree it will ballance.better
Yes that's a great idea. I have a similar tree coming out soon too.
How wide is the sled
The sled is 12x18, but anything wider than 9 inches would work for you.
@@cedarriverwoodworking thanks!
@@terryhartline5600 Glad I could help.
How tall is the tree?
15 3/4" tall
@@cedarriverwoodworking thanks!
@@terryhartline5600 Absolutely. They can be made to different sizes if you needed. Just cut the boards to a different length when you start.
I like the concept! But, no finishing....
Are you saying that you like that they aren't finished?
Se ve lindo pero NO enti8endo subtitulado en CASTELLANO!
Trabajaré para intentar poner subtítulos en español en el video.
5 Below not under lol
Good catch
Andy, love your videos. But I’m worried about your lungs! Wear a mask! Trust me, it makes a difference long term.
I do wear a PEAKSAFETY papr system when not making videos. It acts as a face shield and lung protection.
If you can make it under 5 min. why is the video over 9 minutes long?
All about explaining how it's done. The video may be 9min long but I spent 2 hours editing it.
50% of wood waste is a lot :(
and I think it would be nice to paint it white (I'm going to do just that)
You can also use the off cuts and glue them back together and make more trees.
Really? You're begging online with a Grade School arts-n-crafts project? LOL1 You go, big guy.
Sounds like you really enjoyed the video. I appreciate your support.
