These videos remind me of when I first started watching Reloading videos. So much to learn I had no idea hand tightening collet chucks existed

Used a Hardinge collett lathe for years before I retired... And a small Sheldon engine lathe... I miss having the machines at my disposal since I retired...

Having a PM1440GT too I really like your new chuck, if I only could come up with a justification for the cash outlay I would be in business. LOL. I will watch for more on this.

5c collet chucks are the best application in a toolroom for fast set up and turning parts. If you get it down to .0002 you are doing great

I have a PM1340GT. It seems that the faceplate on this model requires bent lathe dogs that have at least a 3" length of bent tail between the stock holding center and the center of the end of the bent tail. This seems to be about 1/2" longer than the standard tail. Does your faceplate require the same? And if so, where did you find your lathe dogs? I am having a heck of a time locating any. Thanks.

Can you thread and chamber using a collet chuck? I couldnt find 5C collets up to 1.200"-1.250". Also, is it possible to install a collet chuck onto a true bore alignment system?

    Super nice setup!
.0002, that should be ok 🙂
    Ever use ceramic cutters? 👍

Haven't used ceramic, but have some diamond inserts - for when you really need to get down to business.... :)

So I'm a total newbie with a lathe, the place I work has a grizzly g0509g and an assortment of chucks that I have been allowed to use I would love to use this chuck but I have had nothing but trouble with it I tried doing the face cut to zero it and then mounted the chuck and the run-out was around .015-.02 then after getting it dialed in to around .002 I did some work and removed it and switched to a 3jaw for some quick larger work and when I switched back to this chuck using a mark like you did to ensure its mounted in the same position the run-out is horrendous I would say somewhere between .08-.1 (visibly disturbing) everything was cleaned before installing it but this thing has given me nothing but trouble I've resorted to putting it back on a shelf and saying screw it. Any ideas or hints the one time I used it successfully it was super handy and quick. Thanks.

Ah man...... That's just plain lazy, lmao!!!!! Wish they had those collet chucks around when I was using a lathe (all day) years ago..... Hours spent truing up work on the 4J chucks, stone the bloody crows!!
    Sheer, unadulterated jealousy, hahaha
    Thanks for posting Gavin :)
