The scary part to me is that a Republican politican could use this exact script as their stump speech and it would probably still be effective.

See, I was always confused, why do these so called "freedom loving" republicans always pass laws that limit people's freedoms, and are always so deferential to authorities that abuse power, such as the police? Then it hit me. It's not that they're bootlickers, it's that they think they'll always be the one _with_ the boot. They tell you and me "if you just comply with the cops, they won't shoot you" and imply that if you don't comply, you deserve to die. And they're ok with cops basically being able to kill whoever they feel is out of line because in their eyes, it will never be _them_ who is on a cop's sights. Same way they outlaw abortions but make sure if one of their affair partners gets pregnant, they'll have the means to get an abortion.

And now many of them have to return to the UK and they are OUTRAGED by this turn of events.
If you really-really want to get into the weeds some of them are outraged when they see Irish people continuing to zip through the EU-only passport channel while they languish in the much much longer all-other-passports channel. They don't want to admit that in as many words. But HOLY FUCKBALLS does it anger them that THE IRISH are treated "better" than what they chose to happen to them. How very *dare* we be treated better than them. Don't we know that we only-barely-qualify as white. How *very* dare we continue to enjoy the privileges that we didn't elect to toss-away into the bin?!?!??!?"
I have many lefty friends in the UK and I weep for them because of all the right-wing morons who believed the lies and pissed-away their EU membership because they thought they could continue to enjoy all the privilege without any of the financial responsibilities. Sometimes I get really amused imagining what your neighbors think when you're filming these but I imagine they're used to it by now.
As a British person I use to think that American politics was somewhat similar to British politics besides Britain having more political parties than America (each party having their own policies as to how they think their country should be run, and they can be dethroned if they’re unpopular enough) but MAGA has changed that thought.
Yes Britain had Boris Johnson but most Boris supporters see/saw him as a means to an end, a statement of “if you want Brexit, support Boris”. Meanwhile it looks like you could tell MAGA supporters that Trump has broken every law under the sun, have them BELIEVE that Trump broke ever law under the sun, and they would still vote for specifically Trump and no other candidate.

The NY 3rd special election (the one to replace Santos) was interesting, because the Democrat was campaigning as tough on immigration¹, and *the strategy worked,* as he won by a large margin.
As someone who _actually favors_ open borders and less restrictive immigration, all of this is depressing AF, but at least signs are pointing towards bullet-through-the-knee beating out bullet-through-the-head this November.

I love how they always would say that they gotta own guns to protect against the government, yet when the public was protesting police brutality, they grabbed their guns and went out and stood between cops and protestors...but they weren't trying to protect the protestors from the cops (aka the government,) no they were trying to protect armed cops form unarmed protestors. That pretty much proved that they don't own guns to protect against the government, but to protect against "them" whoever "they/them" may happen to be in the mind of the gun owner.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the grand irony that the folks who get mad about immigrants coming to the US (documented or not) tend to forget that unless descended from Native Americans, they are descended from immigrants given how the land was taken hundreds of years ago from Native Americans.
Still… best part was how you paralleled almost exactly what Trump said about Mexican immigrants at the start of his 2016 campaign.

I have to say this speech sounds disturbingly real...I think I've read it on several conservative websites... I'm from New Mexico, where European folks from Mexico started moving in during the late 16th century. Many of their descendants are still here. As we say, the Native Americans got here on foot, the Spanish from Mexico came on horseback, and the Anglos waited until they could take the train ( which arrived in the 1880s. ). Hey -- this is *America* -- speak Spanish ( or Tewa, depending...)

I live in Southern AZ and been to the border areas quite often. I have once seen a group of migrants, but mostly it's quiet desert and peaceful. There's an immigration problem that needs a sensible solution, but it's not a crisis.
