I was the only Filipino in my school when I was younger. Everytime somebody tried to bully me, i called them out loudly and didn't stop till a teacher noticed / came to find out what was happening. I had school anti-bullying guidelines to back me up. The bullies stayed away eventually when I did break someone's nose and blinded his left eye when he tried to retaliate. I NEVER backed down from bullies. I always stayed away from confrontations but in those rare moments I do, I made sure I AM HEARD and UNDERSTOOD;););) I make sure I leave a mark! The school already had a long file on bullying towards me that I actually got to use city "victim" resources and didn't get expelled.

i was bullied also when i was in jr high, i usually approach bullies when they're all alone because they're only tough when they're in groups. they're cowards when they're all alone.

I love this vlog. It made me realize that you do not have to be born and raised in the Phil or to have Filipino parents or whatever to be called a Filipino. You may not have a Filipino gene in your DNA but if you imbibed the Filipino mind and spirit and you feel and think and act like a Filipino, then you are a Filipino. It’s what you consider yourself to be that matters and defines you and not what others say or think of you.

Yes, we don't say "you're half filipino half mexican" to our daughter, we say "You are Filipina AND Mexican, you were made from two people with different cultures so your blood and heart will ALWAYS carry both" And it working out great, our daughter LOVES that she is both and respects both cultures at the young age of 8 :) We don't mind what others try to label us as

Wow Mike, thank you for saying not to let anyone diminish your Filipino. I’m one quarter and often feel that way even with my own Filipino-American family because of my physical traits. I have always gravitated toward my Filipino culture, but want to learn more so I’m enjoying these videos.

Hello from Houston, TX! I loved this video with Salamat Cookies! Mike is hilarious and Im hoping to see some cookies in Htown one day! I lived in the Phils for 7 years (14 till 20 yrs old-- 35 now 😅) and everything you guys mentioned with learning and assimilating, I too had to learn as a Filipino- American-- I have much input on my experiences with that and feel you guys on those growing pains. Haha. I'm a new follower, but all your videos make me smile. Keep them coming! Ang galing mo na din mg tagalog Cristina! Mabuhay! 😊

What an interesting and fascinating vlog. IMO, you’re Filipino all the way whether a quarter or .02. Don’t worry about the naysayers. You’re.02 Pinoy blood probably is the result of a Filipino sailor who decided to stay in Mexico and had a family. A small minority of Pinoy sailors did actually put up roots in Mexico..
Keep doing what you’re doing 👍🏼👍🏼. Mabuhay kayo.

    • @Relo67

Clarification: the Pinoy sailors who settled in Mexico was during the Galleon trade between the Philippines,Mexico and Cuba.

My husband was somewhat “forced” to assimilate because he didn’t want to be bullied 😕 it’s unfortunate that it happened but it also showed him how much confidence he had within himself as an adult. I’m incredibly proud of him, proud of both of our cultural ancestry and raising the boys to appreciate their heritage ❤️

Its a sorry thing but TRIBALISM stems from being scattered among diffrent islands in the countrbut I hope its getting less in the country although, its more marked among Filipino communities abroad. I feel like Pinoys in the Phillipines will accept you as Pinoy with sense of wonder but Pinoys abroad woukd have 2nd thoughts thinking All Piniys should look and sound like them..dysfunctional..lol!
