Liked your screenplay idea on JRE. Would be cool start to the play to show what happened to that guy and his sad ending and then rewind time and show you going in to get your coffee and thinking about how to write a play about the guy and thinking about his life. And you or someone else could go say hi to him daily and start forcing conversation and interaction and show how his life improves when he gets out of his comfort zone and end the alternate timeline differently for him with him getting his life together. Cool idea though, great podcast!

I’ve known about it, in part because of DonutMedia.
I know it’s not an option for larger-scale operations, but what’s stopping you guys from building your own small to midsize tractors? It’s not like they have to be street legal, who’s gonna get in your way? Before purpose-built tractors caught on, there were kits to turn road vehicles into tractors (that’s how Ford got involved with ag equipment, people were already converting Model Ts). Find an old diesel that’s easy to work on and put it in a tractor that’ll accept it, or build your own using a junkyard Ram chassis as the basis. Am I missing something here?

I’m a farmer but a lot different from this. We just do the hay without the livestock and we do 110lbs 3 string bales instead of the 2 string maybe 50-60lb bales that they are running. We farm the hay for profit while they farm theirs for their livestock so 2 strings just make more sense for them. It’s always cool to see real farming on CZcams. Real people making it out there just like me and my family. Keep it up

    • @wabash1581

I have worked on a few farms. Bailing hay, is a job. Stacking the hay in a loft, is also a job. Getting paid very little, for the very demanding work, the hardest job of all. That said. One of the greatest feelings ever (for me at least) is sitting back after a hard days work on a farm. There are so many tasks and new ones, expected and unexpected, pop up all the time. Tackling the tasks and pushing forward, is rewarding feeling. I wish you and you and your family the best!

That way we can stack them with a crane inside the stable…

Tell the story how it really is, him passing and nobody noticing but then the lives of the people he somewhat interacted with on the daily beforehand and their moral compass when they find out what really happened and how that changed them. That could add the happiness to the end. Theres always some good out of any bad if you look hard enough

I grew up helping out at a friend's farm and being able to throw the bails up to the people stacking on the top rows of the trailer was a coming of age thing. It's hard work but I have some great memories... getting sunburnt, eating their Grandma's cooking at the end of the day, and jumping in the lake with hay stuck all over me. I remember if we were feeling daring we would ride on top of the hay trailer down the road to go deliver it to other local farms. Leenda probably looks a little cuter than I did. Simple truck with the ext cab. Nice to travel with. It’s cheaper and much better to repair the older vehicles than the new outrageous repair bills for 50-70k vehicles now. Every time we visited my grandmother as soon as we get out the car after making a 2 and a half hour drive she put us to work even when we were in our nice clothes. That was a lot of our summers and holidays growing. When people have the nerve to tell me I don't know nothing about being out in this heat I just think about working in those fields in 100+ degree weather.

This reminds me of the farms I worked on. Somehow I never thought of chickens eating Japanese beetles. Super handy.

Steven and Rich normally pick at Leenda, but it hilarious that they GENUINELY seem frustrated by her this episode. 😂😂

Let me take a stab at this: nobody called for help. Stevon wanted farm fresh eggs and produce and to pet the animals, Rich wanted to show off his truck, and Leenda wanted to take pictures with farm stuff.

i can feel the itch on my arms, back of my neck and in my throat from the hay right now all over again. i hated it soooo much. very demanding job my first time out. the next year luckily during tha bailing faze we didnt have to throw it to stack. we had an attachment that picked up 10 square bails. they would get tied then sat on the trailer. huge relief but the sun still beat the crap out of you every year regardless. if only bailing sync'd with the cool 70 degree lightly cloudy days lol

When he said "if you invest that in something, it'll go real far" it reminds me of my grandfather. When we used to work for him as kids, we'd get $10 and he'd say the same thing.
