      Equating Stalin with Hitler is a form of holocaust denial. Stalin did a lot of bad stuff but nothing on the level of Hitler.

    • @sebastiang7394
      @sebastiang7394 Před 2 lety +1

      That’s just not true. Stalin is directly responsible for the murder of over 20 million people. He gave out quotas of people to be executed. He also created concentration camps (Gulags) all over Russia where Millions where worked to death. People where put in Gulags for political reasons but also for race and other arbitrary criteria. He’s also responsible for a lot famines that caused the death of millions and he invaded east Europe together with Hitler. They are both monsters. Stalins crimes are just a lot less known than Hitlers because history is written by the victors.

    • @Sean-xy4hk
      @Sean-xy4hk Před 2 lety +1

      @@sebastiang7394 You are engaging in a form of holocaust denial. Nothing that Stalin did is on the level of the Holocaust. 750,000 people were executed under Stalin's leadership, compared to 17 million murdered in the Holocaust by Hitler. The famine under Stalin was largely caused by the weather conditions and Kulak resistance to collectivisation (slaughtering livestock, burning down farms, etc).

    • @sebastiang7394
      @sebastiang7394 Před 2 lety +15

      @@Sean-xy4hk Holocaust denial is denying that the Holocaust occurred or downplaying the extend of it. Acknowledging Stalins crimes and comparing him to Hitler does not constitute Holocaust denial. There are a lot of similarities between Stalinism and the Nazi system so comparing them to better understand how totalitarian regimes of terror work makes a lot of sense. Even Hannah Adrendt did it. But off course as with every comparison there are a also a lot of differences. The issue with Stalin is while the world has mostly denounced Hitler and the Nazis after WW2, Stalin is still considered a hero by many. But it makes off course no sense to play the game who was the worst dictator. They where both monsters in slightly different ways.

    I'm in awe of Peterson's ability to string together dozens and dozens, even hundreds of words, without providing an ounce of substance.
    The skinny version.
    Stalin wasn't a saint.
    He was a product of his time and the conditions in which he had to lead his country. Even hard core communists and tankies (I'm one of them) readily admits that Stalin made mistakes, people died under his leadership, and famines occurred as a consequence of policy.
    Archives reveal efforts in those famines to alleviate the famines (including in Ukraine).
    What a lot of these "death figures" fail to reveal as well is:
    Millions were N**is
    Many thousands were the state dealing wit perpetrators of pog**ms . (Usually sent to jail/gulags)
    People committing crimes were also sent to jail/gulags, these included gangs, kulaks, murderers etc etc.
    If you look at Stalin properly, his leadership lead the USSR to become a superpower to rival the US.
    Considering, during his and even his successors' leadership, the USSR was under constant threat from the west. Also, Stalin was the FIRST to try to stop Hitler with an alliance with UK and France WELL before the start of WW2. And they refused. The west hoped the Hitlers march east would destroy the fledgling socialist state before it could show the world a new way forward.

      The video is for some reason unfinished but see how JP is establishing how we have our safe environments which are primarily groups of people whom we trust and feel comfortable with and enjoy the company of? Well, Stalin killed all his friends, he killed all his wife's friends, that's why she killed herself. So this world that most of us have that JP is describing, Stalin didn't have it. He didn't function as a human. He became a monster.

  • @zMustyz
    @zMustyz Před rokem +2

    I was waiting on him getting to the point about why people value certain things. Then he went on this weird tangent on social expectations and how we don't like the unexpected, then it ended with "and we were prey animals for a long time..." I like JP but this time he kind of just rambled.

    Basically, what we're dealing with in the concept of belief systems is summed up by the word "religions", and to understand Marxism, you really do have to look at it through the lens of assuming it is a religion.
    A very false one to be sure, but a belief system nonetheless.

      @John Bob Yes indeed, and that also explains their methods in WW2, as well as why they didn't immediately go in for the kill as soon as they could: they wanted to spread their secular religion.
