I think it’s under appreciated how much knowledge of chemistry a hairdresser needs to have. There is a reason you pay so much more to have it done correctly.
You’re absolutely correct! I went to cosmetology school and we did have chemistry classes 😊
I completely agree. Watching Hair Buddhas videos has made me understand how difficult this field is and how much knowledge and experience you need to be good. I also now understand why getting your hair done is so expensive.
Or you pay so much and it's always done terrible.
@@monsoonBloom So sorry to hear that 😒 Never leave your salon until you’re happy with the results. You are paying for a service and you have the right to be satisfied when the job is done!
Then get a new hairdresser and always read the reviews before deciding to make an appointment. Good luck to you ❤️
@@monsoonBloomthen you’re going to the wrong person or you’re not showing them examples
Once when I was having my hair done, a young women came in sat down and said she wanted much shorter hair and she wanted it blonde ( she had very long brown virgin looking hair) the hairdresser asked lots of questions, the girl was struggling to say what she wanted, and couldn’t even say what shade of blonde she wanted, she said to the hairdresser do what you think, then she started saying she had anxiety issues. The hairdresser very sensibly fetched a more experienced hairdresser who very sensitively talked the girl in to just having a medium length cut, and told her how going blonde would be high maintenance, she suggested the girl think about making that change and come back another time. I was very impressed they could have charged her a fortune but they could see she hadn’t really thought it through and may be distressed with the outcome. Hairdressers don’t just cut hair they are constantly adapting to each customers expectations and mindsets.
If the girl struggles with anxiety, my guess is that she was too scared to contradict what the stylist told her and probably got it done elsewhere. She probably knew what she wanted, just had difficulty articulating it due to her anxiety. Been there, done that.
I really respect both of these opinion in this thread. As someone who struggles with social anxiety I can easily be talked out of something I have thought through quite thoroughly and also have a big problem with disagreeing with someone. It really is impossible without talking to this girl to find out exactly what happened. I will say Bravo to a salon that didn't feel comfortable moving ahead so did the responsible thing and told the girl to go home and think about it. If this was me I would go back to that Salon I wouldn't go to another one because I would trust them. Oddly enough I had a very bad experience with long hair being cut by an inexperienced stylist because I wanted to give her a break and a chance to build up her Client List. Big mistake. She made such a mess but every attempt to correct it by another stylist was a fail. Finally the fourth girl I saw I said listen cut it into a pixie I'd had a pixie cut before and I really enjoyed it. At this point I had nothing to lose. She said I hate to tell you this but your hair is too short now even for a pixie. What I will say is the manager did everything he possibly could to try and make things right for me even having me come in the day my daughter got married and have my hair styled and my makeup done for free. Unfortunately the makeup was horrendous the only person available was another very inexperienced girl that knew nothing about applying makeup to a mature woman. 5 years later with my hair fully grown out and down to the bottom of my back I decided to go blond. I was thrilled when I went back to have my roots touched up all she did was touch up the outer layer and didn't touch anything underneath. When I called to explain this to her she was terribly rude and I said I would go elsewhere and she said no no no we'll take care of it and asked me when I wanted to come in and I said as soon as possible. When she told me she wouldn't be able to see me for 3 weeks I never went back. She obviously didn't want to fix the mistake. I went to another salon and waited almost a month to get in I made it very clear I loved the colour blond and all I wanted was the roots touched up. I went in and was there for five hours and charged $350. The outcome was she had totally free pigmented my hair to a much darker blonde an added six very obvious crooked blonde streaks that were the colour I had wanted my whole hair to be and I hated it. I called her back and told her I need way more blond in my hair this girl that had being super Pleasant all of a sudden got rude and sounded impatient and annoyed. She asked me what I wanted to come in and I said right away and she told me I'd have to wait 3 weeks. I was Furious I had made it so clear get all I wanted was my roots touched up the exact same colour. I did go back she ended up bleaching it back to what it had being and I loved it. I realized good customer service means everything to me. I need to go back and have my roots touched up and I'm going to go to the salon that admitted they made a mistake when cutting my hair and did everything they possibly could to make things right but they could not regrow their hair the first stylist cut off. This time I will be asking for the best colorist that they have and I'm actually considering going back to my natural colour with blond highlights because the upkeep is just too much and it's not for me. My point good customer service is the only way to go. It's that that brings customers back in the end.
@@dixierae6063I’m a colorist, and a cosmetology instructor . I’m going to be real….. if what you say and how you talk to any hairstylist is ( this) long confusing mess, seriously please ( re- read) what you wrote , my God, it’s NOT the Hairdresser, it’s you ! Accountability and being confusing is at the root of the mess your at the very center of. Customer Service has absolutely nothing to do with you having So many similar disasters . Again, I couldn’t make any sense and I pride myself on this being 75% psychology ! The Only common denominator here is You. Five hours in a salon for $350-is nothing! You also seem clueless to I bet the amount of product that was used in that 6 hours. Correctives ( start at $175 am hour), and when you break that down ….. shocker your stylist in that 6 hours probably literally made $100! Now divide that by 5 for a dose of reality what we make per hour …. This is why so many great hairdressers have quit! You have no clue, none.
The hairdressers were very kind to this girl, not intimidating in any way, there was no bad feeling and the girl seemed more relaxed after their conversation.
Im not a hair stylist, but after watching you and Brad Mondo for more than a year, I feel people don't realize how much you truly have to learn and remember to be a proper hair stylist. It's definitely not as simple as people think it is.
Mondo is a charlatan compared to HB.
Who else liked his brown hair much more?
Outstanding video. Your comments show that hairstylist is a delicate balance of art and science. That makes it far more complicated than just cutting hair. I refer to my stylist as a hair artist whose medium is hair not paint.
From all the home fails yes hairdressers don't get enough credit.
It’s funny that you mention being tired. My cousin has back problems so I bought her one of those cushion mats to stand on. She did hair for 40 years. It can tear you up.
Is this the first person who has actually taken fine sections?? Amazing
Would love to learn more about toners! I know it’s a super complex topic, but it definitely seems to be a place where a lot of hair projects go seriously awry…
Research color theory and research the underlying pigment of any toner you want to use before you purchase and apply it.
Always remember anything level 8-10 in toner or color requires that you LIFT the hair to a level 9-10 first or you cant rely on the “default” results you see on swatches 💜
Apply WAYYYYY more lightener than you think you need so that you can get an even , expected, and cohesive application without any spotting or uneven lift.
“Hair projects” a very appropriate way to describe most of these videos lol
From watching your videos, I finally plucked up the courage to bleach my hair blonde. It's something I've always wanted to do but i was terrified of messing it up and damaging my hair. I took your advice, I did my research and I got a result that I'm so happy with. And my hair feels in great condition. Thank you Hair Buddha! 🤗
9:16 As a curly hair girl I concur! Took me too many years to realize I was trading option of long hair for blonde. Breakage is real...
I am not in cosmetology at all, but I could watch the Hair Buddha talk about how this stuff works all day long. It’s so interesting and he describes it well. ❤❤❤
as much as I like your reaction videos, I appreciate that this one was more about the cosmetology studies... since we know this is someone who is genuinely trying, and wanting to use this video as a stepping stone towards being a hairdresser.
As a hairdresser I agree with everything you say not to mention the constant consoling and interaction with difficult people
You are so right! You can’t tell women who come in with a picture of what they want that their won’t do that 🤦♀️
The consoling! I got my hip length hair cut to shoulder length on Sunday. My choice. I'm too stressed at work to take care of such long hair at the moment and it was just unmanageable. I was starting to get depressed and while I didn't want to lose my hair, I needed to keep my sanity. But when she made the first cut I just started sobbing. Like all my stress came out in that first cut and I couldn't stop crying. The hairdresser felt horrible and started apologising, which made me feel terrible, because it wasn't her fault! Then I started apologising too. It was just very emotional. I need to go back there and tell her how much easier my life is now and how much I love my hair.
I'm a cosmetic scientist and formulate products, those hair color/bleach and related color products and perms are a nightmare to formulate. it is very hard to master. Really lover your videos. groetjes uit oostvlaanderen
I'm not a hairdresser but it's definitely hard work! Standing all day, repetitive movement with the hands and arms, leaning over sinks, all while having to do very exact fine work and dealing with customers. Tip your hairdresser!
He did a great job imo 😊👍 the only thing I've learned, that has been a game changer after doing my hair myself for a long time that I usually dont see in these videos, is picking your toner after the bleaching process, when you see how it turned out you can get a better idea of which toner shade is suitable 😊👍
I don't have any hair and I am not a hairdresser, but I learn so much from and really enjoy these videos.
"At the end of the day... Sometimes you're dead." I did not expect that. 😂
I had to laugh at the end when you said you first practice on your own hair… and your *best* friend’s hair. Yep. Because you are a real friend if you’re sitting there like “Go ahead. Dye my hair. Mess it up if you want, because you gotta learn and I frikin love you.” Not just any friend would be up for that. 🤣
I was my friend's guinea pig when she was learning and it was so much fun, and the result was actually great! It was a bright red, like flamin' hot Cheeto red. Good times.
The amount of knowledge a hair dresser has to learn is mind boggling! I did snort when he said he hair was in good shape tho 😂
I’m so grateful for my hairdresser. She’s has the ability to transform my hair and my look while patiently dealing with my expectations. She’s amazing.
This was awesome! …I wish him many happy hairdressing years ahead! 😊
My FAVORITE hairstylist on CZcams 🎉❤
He really needs to shave his head and start new. I'm sure his beautiful curvy hair would be much better than that dry straw he has going on right now.
This was such a nice video to the student. His hair wasn't in great condition at the end, it had a strange tone and he didn't do everything right but you weren't nasty to him like many people can be on the internet. Your channel gets more popular, yet you still stay honest and humble. Bravo 👏👏
“Love What you Do” -that’s why I love seeing your videos Because it always shows how much YOU Love this craftsmanship (and you are the Best at it😉👍)
I literally said to my hairdresser the other day, your job is sooo hard. To be on your feet all day, the constant moving of your arms, having to be happy happy constantly even if your client is an arse, having lunch on the go a lot of the time, the amount of knowledge and studying you have to learn to do it...the list goes on. I have such huge respect for all in that profession ❤
Excellent, Thank you HB❤❤❤
Super Video! Der Typ ist wirklich sympathisch! 🙂
His eyes are beautiful..I liked the darker hair on him tho
Underestimated indeed. All that standing I grew a bunion on my left foot 😂 my aunt also had carpal tunnel surgery on her wrist from holding those sheers for so many years!
Listen.. I’ve been licensed in cosmetology since 2008 and I went into it because it’s MY PASSION 💜 I ALSO own my own general contracting and remodeling company and I can attest for myself, doing hair is WAY HARDER on my body!!!! When I’m remodeling a room/house- I don’t stand in one spot all day or do as much bending, slouching, shifting, or repetitive motion!
I officially love you. First time I've run across your channel. And you are right. Do hair because it gives you satisfaction helping other feel better. I'm more of a hair cutter than colorist, I enjoy visually planning and sculpting out a great cut... but I gained a ton of knowledge from going to Toni & guys' 3rd(?) academy. Idk but I live where they opened their first salon & hairdressing academy.
, my aunt even sold guy his house a few years before his passing.
I do not do hair as a profession, school stole my joy for the craft. But I do color and occasionally give myself some fringe, layers and do fun colors in spots. I'm currently fading out this hot pink, orange to uv yellow fringe I've had for about a year.... (I've filled it in a few times but overall, I'm trying to maintain the health of my hair, but do fun things while I'm going grey lol. )
I think nearly everyone can learn to cut hair/do the average work on hair that a stylist does, even though some take longer, but being professional means to be able to customize everything to the hair and head in front of us. This includes the personal experience for our clients
Hi Hair Buddha...wow you certainly know your hair dressing!! You are always so kind hearted as well. Very interesting to listen to you talk about your craft❤ . Thank you x
Hair Buddha is KING 👑💕
Honestly, if he'd have styled that bight yellow, that would kinda have been a vibe.
I quite like golden blond and honey blond
Not only the knowledge of chemistry but knowing what medications will effect the color results. Also, I don't know how many clients my sister has sent to the dermatologists because of moles or various places she sees. The majority come back and thank her, because the mole needed to be removed. ❤ So much knowledge is needed to be in that profession!!
Love your videos they're so entertaining and educational
My daughter is 18 and becomming a hairstylist. She is in her second of three learning years. I'm so proud of her and she is doing all of our hair in the Salon to practise her skills. In Germany you are going to find yourself a Salon who is willing to train you for 3 years. In this time you visit the job school two times a week and work for 3 days in the Salon.
I don't like bleached eyebrows but he's learning.
So right about hair needing moisture! My natural silver/gray hair is slightly wavy and is laying down so nicely since I started using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I live in a humid climate too. I had dry hair, but it’s so much better now. (air hair only)
I ❤ his videos ! My youngest is a cosmetologist & I have total respect for what she does ! She has a talent for sure & works hard. Keep the videos coming 🙂
His hair was toast, but he seems happy with it.
HAHAhaHA WHEN HE SAYS HIS HAIR IS IN GOOD SHAPE AND HIS ENDS ARE LIKE BURNED TO CRIPS XD !!!!
Such a well done job I think a treatment is definitely going to help smooth out the hair even more ❤thankyou for another awesome video sending you and your family love and light 💕 a
'fine, curly hair is not the ideal hair to bleach'- me crying inside knowing what my bleaching is doing to my beautiful curls by staying platinum white bc i love the colour so much
It looks great on you!
Now I've got "Beauty School Drop-Out" stuck in my head.
He's thinking,I love it! Very refreshing ✌️😊
When i see you the first think that coming to my mind is "FINE SECTIONS!!!", i love your accent and your comments, i learned so much thanks to you, i'm from Chile and you make me so easy understand you!!! The moment i discovered your channel you win a suscriptor :D
😂 thank you so much for the helpful advice man! I really appreciate and enjoyed your video.
I’m not a professional but over 10 years ago when my sister was in high school, she desperately wanted her super super faded red out of her hair, ( it wasn’t her whole head, it was just underneath, y’all remember that trend when it was cool to separate your hair and dye the underneath, it was that ) a professional refused to touch it, and I understand now but 10 years ago I was surprise she wouldn’t touch it so my sister asked would I try and get her to a blonde and I agreed but I did warn her, this could go wrong, her hair could go pink, orange etc. She trusted me and we bleached all the red and 30 or so minutes later she was left with this golden blonde, she kept it for so long and it was such a incredible feeling that she loved it so much as my sisters hair is very important to her.
She even wore her hair that 2 tone in her senior pictures for high school
I absolutely love you!!!!
He killed his hair, what a pity, but at the same time it will give him experience for his future job. I learn a lot on this channel, I'm not a hairdresser, but if I could I think it would is the job I would have done, life decided otherwise. I cut my hair bleaching it myself and so far I haven't had any disasters, since I do a lot of research beforehand. Thank you and all the hairdressers who share their knowledge and experience thank you.
Omg. His hair was green like a troll doll or the grinch 😂
I am enjoying binge watching your Videos, his Hair when he took the Towel off looked liked Boiled Noodles 🍜🍜🍜😆
Even if I don't plan on bleaching my hair anytime soon, I'm still taking notes every time you give information, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. My hair almost reaches my hip bones now and it has never looked better. The last 5 centimeters have been dyed, but the rest is virgin. I'm going to have the dyed part cut off in December and I'm so excited, I haven't done anything to my hair since the pandemic started.
Good to see that he was having fun with it🙂
Bleached eyebrows were not the best idea😮, but he'll get there eventually😊.
Each time I watch,each time I learn something ❤HB ❣️from France
That’s why we go to college to study hairdressing! Lockdown proved to a lot of people that hairdressing is not just picking up scissors/clippers/box dyes & hacking away at the hair….I saw some nightmare cuts/colours when lockdown was lifted, then they go to QUALIFIED hairdressers sort it out! 😳 Just because hairdressers make it look easy, it’s NOT.
I am currently on a hair bleaching journey. Thanks to Hair Buddha, I am going low and slow. Its being done by professional, though!!😊
Love hearing the science!
Great video, he did a pretty good job not the best but good.
cool... and.... no mention about some "purple shampoo" LOL
I have learned a lot from this vid. I had been dyeing my gray almost white in some areas, hair at home with a Revlon color which was a very dark brown and only applying it on my roots. My hair in the front crown area ( basically what would be bangs if it was cut short) still has a lot of natural black color in it. It hasn’t greyed evenly for some reason. 🤔 I went to a professional to get my hair lightened it was a level 2/3. She used a foil application and very fine parting and it lightened well to a level 7/8 and she toned it with a Demi permanent professional product. It came out really nice. My goal is to eventually get my darker strands to a level 7 and have my lighter strands lighten up to a higher level so that it looks multidimensional. I want it a dark golden blonde with lighter streaks but not too bright gold more of a neutral color. I’ve had it that color before years ago (I did it myself) and it looked really nice. But now I’m leaving the work to a professional because I know it’ll be done well and so far I’m not disappointed.
Excellent episode, extremely informative.
Hi you are so smart love your videos love you thankyou x❤
i always learn so much :)
There´s a book smart and than there´s a street or experience smart. I am autistic so book smart for me, always envied those who are street smart I am absolutely useless in practical life. This guy was having so much fun learning, I´d just break down and shave it off when I´d see the green. It was great video.
I just found you HB, and I am obsessed!

Welcome to the Hair Buddha family, the day I found him I binge watched 🥰
@@RavenVargas27 thank you! I’ve been binge watching all morning 😅
@@mmmfate276
His bleach fail vids are my favorites Buddha's reactions kill me 😂🤣
His hair looked frazzled before he even started.
Thank you for a new video 💜
Thx for watching
I know why I only go to my hairdresser. She knows me and my hair. We‘ll grow old together. 😊
Low and slow fine sections, I like it
I learned so much about hair from you. I think I'm to visit Belgium sometime soon.
😂 I gotta agree, HB. That doesn’t look like healthy hair by far. But he nailed it with the bleach! And almost fixed the toner mishap color! 😊
I'm all natural with tight coils and have no intention on ever coloring my hair. However I really appreciated and enjoyed this commentary.
When I was a student the rule was no chemical treatments after dark or when supply store closed.
New Video 🎉🎉❤❤❤
Fine sections ❤….
…. Es startet schon gut…
❤My daughter is a hairdresser and works so hard and she loves colour
Oh, new notifications in video? Looking interesting)))
Hi Hair Buddha, can you recommend good moisturising cream for fine/curly hair & good hair treatments? 🙏🏼
Wow This Takes A Lot of Guts To do!He is student but I Think You Need A Chemical Degree as well. Its a Precise science.I have so much respect for Hairdressers.Have a blessed week!🎇⛺⛺
Glad he likes it, personally Im not keen on the tone of the blonde.
I love hair too. I'm too old and sick now but have always regretted not going to school for it back in the day.
❤❤❤
I want to follow this cosmetology student guy….. may I ask for a link? I don’t see it anywhere
I'm sorry, I forgot to put the link in the description: www.youtube.com/@duffy972
12:42 lol the mmm mmm said it all
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Some hairstylists take extra classes in color. I had a friend who did & called herself a colorist.
I was so happy to see somebody not use 40 vol developer the end result wasn't pretty good. My hairdresser friend needed but was out of 10 vol developer she took some 20 vol reduced it with an equal amount of hair conditioner and that worked the dye job looked great
Just when I think I've seen it all then I watch your video.
♥️
HB I have very long bleached and golden blonde dyed hair. I have about 6 or 7 inches of dark growth. Should I redo my lengths, which I love, or just my roots? After all these videos I should remember, but I'm panicking now that I've decided to color it again. One more question. If I decided to go silver would I need to bleach white?
I like bleaching on 3 sections:
I use 10vol on the first, 15vol at the second and 30vol at the last section and through this the result is more even. This is when i bleach ky own head and not clients
😢😂 dad laughing at me.... I said , you need to wash out and dry to see color! While you said " No no no no no!"..😅
Dude came out looking like Beetlejuice with that first toner
Ooooh! I see a haircut in his future
