- Hawaii is still getting fewer numbers of Japanese visitors than before the pandemic, and a new UH report says a weak yen may keep them away a while longer.

I live in Hawaii, there is NO Aloha here! Japan is NOT expensive even without the weak Yen. I do not support local or the U.S. economy, because they don’t support us. Everything is a ripoff in the states, and tipping is ridiculous. I travel abroad as often as I can, and when I come home, I spend as little as possible, rinse and repeat.
Sad but true
If you don't support local Hawaiian or US economy, why don't you move somewhere else that you do support ? What if everyone else felt the same way, and does not support your place of business where you work? You would be out of work.
You need to experience aloha in Hawaii. There is still aloha in Hawaii. Aloha is love, hello and goodbye and giving and receiving. Receiving a lei, a cooked meal and warm welcome is aloha. Aloha is still here in Hawaii.
@@tw238 Support is like loyalty, it’s earned. Most local businesses in Hawaii lost my support. Prices keeps going up, quality and quantity keep going down. I support only the few businesses here that do not rip off their customers. I feel lots of businesses have FOMO pricing or charge as much as they can get away with. For example, if one restaurant charges $20 for a bowl of simple Pho, other Vietnamese restaurants will do the same just because that’s the new going rate. Honestly, if Japan let me immigrate there easily, I would apply for citizenship or permanent residence.
@@mikes_in_paradise78 Aloha is just a sales pitch to attract tourists, in reality, very little Aloha exists, especially from the Hawaiians. I’ve lived here for over 20 years, it gets worse year after year.
Go to okinawa. Cheap hotels, warm weather, clearer water, no homeless, low crime, cheaper better food.
Shh don't tell them the secret😂
The Japanese government is known to provide radioactively contaminated agricultural products from Fukushima to tourists,
and tap water, food and land are still contaminated with radiation.
Japan has very low crime
Got to get back there....beautiful scenery and people!
The “warmth and aloha” that was mentioned is the image that Hawaii gets tourists from, but it’ll only go so far. Places like Japan and Korea are cheaper even without considering the exchange rate, and their food, service and experiences are arguably of better quality with their own versions of warmth and aloha.
For Japanese, islands in Okinawa present a good alternative to Hawaii for lower prices and with fewer worries. Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. too. Hawaii is also competing with them and right now I feel like it’s mainly the image that is keeping them in the game.
Better to go Bali than Hawaii.
@@davec3651 Yeah not a bad choice!
Why the Japanese going come here if Hawaii is way more expensive then where they live? This is one of the main reasons why tourist is slow in Hawaii because since the US economy is bad they going to destinations that are way cheaper.
yeah hawaii is just too pricey…id rather go to philippines , thailand or vietnam or even cancun mexico. i usd to like hawaii a lot until i discovered other places.
Cheaper rates down the road...
In Japan the food is like 30% of the price you'd spend in Hawaii
100% facts!
And usually better quality and service too, plus no tipping
@@barrettish yup no tipping and the food is way better.
@@sirij8784 food and service were excellent!
You can even find solid hotels in Japan for about $50/night. I went to Japan for 11-days. Round-trip (LIH to/from NRT) + hotel + food + shopping = Just under $3000
agreed....just went for 11 nights also...spent about the same and hate great time
I'm from Oahu. Locals complain about tourism, but the state economy needs more tourists? Pick a problem!
The warmth and aloha don’t pay the bills
I been to both places recently and I enjoy both very much. But if I had to choose one place it would be Hawaii Oahu.
Come to Hawaii...we need the tourism. Good suntans, great food and awesome culture. Beaches, awesome mountains and great hula.
korea was cheap too
the japanese tourists are piling into okinawa. Its only a 2 hour flight. they're also going to thailand, vietnam and malaysia. the malaysian currency is weak. Bangkok is only a 7 hour flight. I live in japan and we went to bangkok for a week. The western tourist food is more expensive than here in japan but their hotels are cheaper. We stayed at the bangkok conrad for cheap!
It’s a protest on the business $ in Hawaii they have priced out tourism $ Hawaii have to innovate and support entrepreneurial businesses. Hawaii has a monopoly problem and they have no business offices that are affordable. It’s not the locals fault $ return the local citizens to Hawaii. Don’t blame Japan they are also being anti tourism, many of these people need to be banned they have no respect for rules and law.
Japan is clean People are nice, I don’t Understand why they want to come to Hawaii, too much homeless not too many tourists spot, roads are bad , crime is bad
The prices in Japan are not going up. It’s extremely safe unlike Hawaii. The people in Japan are very nice.
Hawaiian airlines had the lowest Business Class prices to Japan across the board.
Japan's economy has been in the dumps since their bubble burst over 30 years ago. Their government dare not raise prices since their workers pay has also been basically stagnant for almost as long. Why would their banks pay the consumer interest to take out loans (negative interest rates) for 8 years only ending this March, when they finally raised their lending rates to 0.00 to 0.1% interest... Now THAT'S a BAD economy.
Hawaii is filthy, crime ridden, homelessness, infrastructure is broken ie streets and sidewalks….there are better places to go other than Hawaii nowadays
Couldn’t have said it any better
Why are you deterring people away from Hawaii...we want them to come to support our aloha culture.
@@mikes_in_paradise78 Hawaii is not the same anymore! There is a murder every week!Corruption from top leaders finally caught up too us and we can it’s wrath
Some of this is true. But this can also be said for many world class destinations, including, London, Paris, Rome, who all have the same issues.
@@tw238 at least they could hold a prestigious event like the Olympics. Hawaii could never hold something at that magnitude. Our leaders are so incompetent we had the nfl pro bowl but they pulled out because our stadium is old and outdated. We could have built one and it would have paid off for itself!plus, it’s players were getting assaulted at night clubs so they pulled out and took there business elsewhere!
Hawaii needs/should to invest back in the state. The Caribbean does offer the same weather and better beaches. Cities like Rome and Barcelona invest back into their cities to attract more tourist. Barcelona alone trumps Hawaii so much attraction. I'm saying this because I love my state HI. Do better. Folks suck in the past here.
Of course it's cheaper flying to Japan from Hawaii.......Hawaii is closer
Why tf would anyone wanna live in Hawaii, place is a lost cause
The main reason why I would visit soon would be because y’all might be getting an idiot president
