      ALL Filipino Nurses work hard because we support our families, not just ourselves. A lot of foreign nurses are also good of course, not only Filipinos but a lot of foreign nurses are working just for money alone. They tend to be absent from work when they don't feel like working and would even ask Filipino Nurses to take their schedules if these Pinoy Nurses are free on those dates. And foreigners complain a lot which you will rarely hear from Filipino Nurses. No wonder Filipino Nurses are the most requested by foreign employers.

      But I had to search this. My mother and both my aunties were nurses and yet I never see them represented, especially in the media. I was delighted to see one highlighted in an Amazon ad.
      Of course all nurses work hard.

    It was different then when the first batch of Filipinos worked in UK early 2000. I worked there 2001 and experienced discrimination from some doctors and senior British nurses. Filipino nurses are trained like US nurses and they noticed the difference. In my experience some doctors dont even listen to the Filipino nurse recommendation or suggestion. One time I have a debate with one of the the doctor because he wont believe in what I was explaining about some cardiovascular issue..( i worked in Philippine heart center before coming to the UK). I have to get the book when I get home and called this doctor just to prove I was right. I missed the British patient though they are one of the best patient to take care of..iam now in US.

      Hi Jack! Thank you for sharing your experience. Yes times have definitely changed. Outright discrimination against any race is a big NO NO today. Now that you've worked in both the US and UK, which do you think is better?

    • @jackjohn8246
      @jackjohn8246 Před 3 lety +2

      @@nursejakeUK pay wise its better here in US but working environment and satisfaction in performing your skill in nursing its better in UK. I worked as a recovery nurse in a cardiothoracic unit in UK and I was able to put into practice all the theory and skill I learned in nursing school. Here in US its more restricted because of fear of litigation.

    Thank you for respecting Filipino nurses because when I was a nursing student in the Philippines, I was hardly respected. There was a hierarchy and student nurses were at the bottom. Probably equivalent to the dirt and microbes on the hospital floor. Thank God i practiced as an RN elsewhere & felt respected there.

      You could hardly hear of Filipino doctors in the UK (but there are, I know 2 of the few here) because we have a different curriculum back home. Some of the nurses here were doctors back home. You also have to note that we have also children of Filipino migrants who are now doctors but could not be said Filipino doctors because they acquired British citizenship. Maybe at first some people in the Philippines take it because of their parents pushing them to go for it but later on in practice they feel and realise how important the profession is. Patients spend 90% of their time with us nurses. Wen they get better, feel listened to, and discharge back in good health, much of that is because of nursing care and it is very rewarding.

    I met 3 Cebuana nurses here in Calgary. They came in as caregivers. Instead of enrolling in a nursing program to qualify to practice nursing, they went through the PROCESS first of "CHALLENGING" the program. They were successful, so they didn't have to go to enrolling in a program. They were able to practice right away, one ended up being a operating room nurse. I would say that the UK health authority readily recognizes Filipino nurses' and midwives' expetience. They are much better to seek employment in UK than in Canada . There's too much requirement to be able to practice here in Canada. They are basically being forced to enroll again in a nursing program instead of doing an evaluation first.

    As a Filipino nurse, this is very biased. This only reflects our colonial mentality as a Filipino. The need to seek validation from foreigners of what we do is very obvious here. We are known to be hard-workers, same as other nurses of different ethnicities. It would be so rude for them to answer you in a negative light. I am not saying you are wrong in doing this interview, but this is a reflection of our annoying craving for validation from foreigners when we don’t really have to.

      Thanks for the comment. The target audience when I started the channel are Filipino nurses and I was thinking what could possibly inspire them. Then I thought about the high regard that doctors have and thought this would be very encouraging. Unlike in the Philippines where some (if not most) doctors treat nurses like we are below them. Here we are colleagues. It's definitely not for validation. We know our knowledge and skills level. It's more of APPRECIATION. Thanks for watching 😊.

    • @nursejakeUK
      @nursejakeUK  Před rokem

      Thanks for your opinion. Who else would do it? Other nationalities are afraid to ask the question as they might be labeled racist for singling out nurses from one country.
      What we should not be doing is bringing other Filipinos down. Your first three sentences were okay, as they are opinions. But the last one is derogatory. Very rude, quite unnecessary really as the first part already stated your opinion.
      I challenge you to make a video where you interview people and see how much courage, hard work, and time it takes to do it. Send me the link once you've made your own video.
      Otherwise, make your opinion but no need to be rude.
