Not only in the west also here in Japan. White or black can get treated very badly at times by the Japanese. Not to mention how they treat other asians such as Chinese , Koreans etc . Here in Japan being a foreigner you need permission before renting from the landlord whether they allow foreigners to rent in their building or not . Many places are for Japanese only .And if you have kids they might get bullied severely by Japanese kids at school for being different. Being different is a big no-no in Japanese society . Number 8 is very correct. Like I paid my worker daughter school fees. I also gave a her a half plot of land to finally build her own place. But the bad part is some of them take this for granted and abuse it

I attended a Nigerian church here in the U.S. with a Nigerian friend of mine for about 3 months right after my closest friend passed and immediately fell in love with the culture. There was definitely a sense of belonging which is why I'm headed to this beautiful country this coming year.

I watched Lagos through my iPad screen. I don’t like Owambe and going outing at night is scary. My only social life is hanging out in Sheraton on Fridays .
As a french (afropean) person, I can relate to the lack of maintenance of infrastructure... The biggest airport in France, the CDG Airport, was built in 1974 but only (partially) renovated in 2007. I remember, when I was younger, even in the late 90's, thinking how old and "cheap" it was compared to other international airports abroad. Same thing goes for the third largest shopping mall in France, les Halles. Built in 1979 but only renovated in 2018 (!). 1980's architecture in the centre of Paris. A neglected, dirty and unsafe place for years... The paris CBD, la Défense, was built between 1958 and the 1980's. Only began a modernization program in the last decade or so. Its shopping mall, the largest in France, les Quatre Temps, was built in 1981 but only renovated in 2006. It used to be hideous. The list goes on (most subway stations/lines, most train stations, the Jussieu or Tolbiac universities...)! In the fifth largest economy in the world! As for littering, I would like to add that littering is really a mindset that can (easily?) be shifted. French people used to not pick their dog poo in the 90's. It was bad. You could not walk in the streets of Paris without looking where you stepped into. Then the Paris mayor campaigned against incivility and it worked!

Re Litter/ filth The root of the problem is Nigerians feel that if something is shared you're free to abuse it. This ranges from a government company, to communal space, people will treat it badly. This is a bad characteristic that needs to change.

Do you think solutions to traffic is to build more bridges? I think the foundation to the solution is teaching drivers about road sign and traffic rules. Nigerian in Nigeria does not know what stop sign mean, so why won’t their be traffic if everyone wants to go at same time.
That is an issue for sure . It should help. But i dont think that would make much of difference. this city just has too many people.lol. Maybe using the waterways would help too.
The roads are not marked, therefore, drivers tend to cheat all the time, because everyone is in a hurry. Lagos roads are death traps. Everything is below the world class standards of mega cities, nothing is normal in not only Lagos, but the whole Nigeria.
I’m guessing security isn’t as bad as they make it seems when I watch CZcams or what’s your opinion on that? As much as I want to move back, security & healthcare are my issues.... any insight on these please? Being that you just got back from Naija?
I felt safe to be honest. I was able to roam around freely and interact and engage with everyone around me. I didn't feel unsafe or uncomfortable. I do think it has to do with the area that I stayed at. which is lekki phase 1 area. I cant speak for other neighborhoods. I haven't explored healthcare yet. but a lot of people don't trust the healthcare system over there. This is one of my priority things to explore when i get back there soon
Lagos can be as secure as you want to make it. Obviously there are nuances but generally speaking the nicer the area you're in the more secure it would be. Residential areas on the island are more secure than those on the mainland(again, nuances cause there are some mainland estates that are super secure than anywhere else). So focus on getting an apartment in places like Lekki(all phases), Victoria Island, VGC, Ikoyi et al... Also note that like everywhere else in the world if you plan to live overly flamboyant, you will draw attention. It doesn't mean you'll be targeted(after all we have people driving Porches and Ranges here) but then you don't know who's watching. As for healthcare, I'm a nurse so I can lean in more here. Healthcare isn't super great but it is good enough. There are a lot of facets to the problem. Needless to say, the bigger the hospital the closer to the quality of care you're used to. Again, Island has some of the very best hospitals across Lagos and you'll find quality care delivered excellently most of the time. No institution is perfect obviously but they're good for the money most times.
Poor maintenance culture is Nigeria's biggest problem .We spend so much money rebuilding our infrastructure! I dont know how we can implement this mindset. As a person who grew up in the 70s the rate of rebuilding infrastructure is alarming !Something as simple as filling pot holes after the rainy season would solve so many of our problems! That being said if you have money Nigeria is sweet ooo!!
The government needs a sustained public information campaign and ad you said MORE BINS to reduce littering and spot fines too....but then the enforcement officers are likely to go rogue...😑😑
All the money I could source for business has always been from abroad. The loan systems in Nigeria is out of reach. The interest rate is a killer. The reasons why people does doggy stuffs to get money

Lagos state is economic powerhouse of Nigeria and will become more richer now she is an Oil state,also when Dangote Oil refinery and petrochemical industry will start functions.
There is NO DOUBT! This is a known fact for sure. I just wish we can find a way to improve the county as a whole with that wealth. That will be so awesome. There is no reason why we shouldn't have access to 24/7 power supply and clean water for all the citizens at this stage in our development as a country
@@thenigeriannomad but Nigeria and German government sign deals for fixing electricity stuff,which German Siemen was awarded the contract to upgrade Nigeria grids to 25,000 by 2025,work are currently going on right now,but C-19 slow it down,there are many mega unfrastrures projects going on around Nigeria.
However next time you come Home,visit Abuja and Obudu ranch in CrossRiver state,these 2 cities will grow your channel fast.

@@thenigeriannomad considering that lagos has some of the worst power in Nigeria..its crazy how big the economy is...i just found out its over 150bn usd economy is bigger than new Delhi or Mumbai despite both having larger populations and space. With electricity and infrastructural development..it might be dragging with South Africa in the next 10 years.

Do you think solutions to traffic is to build more bridges? I think the foundation to the solution is teaching drivers about road sign and traffic rules. Nigerian in Nigeria does not know what stop sign mean, so why won’t their be traffic if everyone wants to go at same time.
That is an issue for sure . It should help. But i dont think that would make much of difference. this city just has too many people.lol. Maybe using the waterways would help too.

The roads are not marked, therefore, drivers tend to cheat all the time, because everyone is in a hurry. Lagos roads are death traps. Everything is below the world class standards of mega cities, nothing is normal in not only Lagos, but the whole Nigeria.

As much as I want to move back, security & healthcare are my issues.... any insight on these please? Being that you just got back from Naija?
I felt safe to be honest. I was able to roam around freely and interact and engage with everyone around me. I didn't feel unsafe or uncomfortable. I do think it has to do with the area that I stayed at. which is lekki phase 1 area. I cant speak for other neighborhoods. I haven't explored healthcare yet. but a lot of people don't trust the healthcare system over there. This is one of my priority things to explore when i get back there soon
Lagos can be as secure as you want to make it. Obviously there are nuances but generally speaking the nicer the area you're in the more secure it would be. Residential areas on the island are more secure than those on the mainland(again, nuances cause there are some mainland estates that are super secure than anywhere else). So focus on getting an apartment in places like Lekki(all phases), Victoria Island, VGC, Ikoyi et al... Also note that like everywhere else in the world if you plan to live overly flamboyant, you will draw attention. It doesn't mean you'll be targeted(after all we have people driving Porches and Ranges here) but then you don't know who's watching.
As for healthcare, I'm a nurse so I can lean in more here. Healthcare isn't super great but it is good enough. There are a lot of facets to the problem. Needless to say, the bigger the hospital the closer to the quality of care you're used to. Again, Island has some of the very best hospitals across Lagos and you'll find quality care delivered excellently most of the time. No institution is perfect obviously but they're good for the money most times.
I love the food. But I don’t eat out at all too scared to contact food contamination. I cook my food most of the time

Poor maintenance culture is Nigeria's biggest problem .We spend so much money rebuilding our infrastructure! I dont know how we can implement this mindset. As a person who grew up in the 70s the rate of rebuilding infrastructure is alarming !Something as simple as filling pot holes after the rainy season would solve so many of our problems! That being said if you have money Nigeria is sweet ooo!!
