  • Dirty Smith demonstrates the concept of turning a hinge out of .25" x 2" and .25" x 1". We will forge the ends, remove stock, forge some decoration on the strap under the power hammer and seal it up with beeswax.
    Have something to say? Now is the time! Stay, sub and enjoy!

    I love how so many metal workers do some sort of sliding/glancing hit with their hammer AS IF it would "push" the metal in the direction of the slide. Lol
    It's complete nonsense. Hit it right smack with the good direction . Stop with the glancing blows ; it does NO-THING . THe metal moves right at the impact in ONE single vector (you can NOT physically impart several vectors with one blow, it simply is not how physics work in this universe ) and then the hammer rebounds instantly imparting no more energy into the piece, obviously
    Stop it lol

    Commenting to say I just used this video to see how to make a bracket for my motorbike seat (essentially a bit of flatbar with hinge barrel on the end) after trashing an unreasonable amount of flatbar trying to cold set it into a circle to fit my bolt. Worked great. Thanks.

    That is SO COOL!!
    I have such a fancy for black smithing because of the raw ability to create building materials, tools, and the most basic things. The stuff you could do with a hinge!!! I wish I could smith a hinge that nice.

I know you weren't feeling well, but I personally like the way you taught/said everything you were doing at the time...(not dubbed over) a sign of a true craftsman, knowing what you do well you can explain everything. Where to hit and why. Thank you again for making detailed video while recovering..

    • @jamesmcmillen4828
      @jamesmcmillen4828 Před 8 lety

      The bracers are worth it. I bought two and they really save my wrists from fatigue. It does suck, however, when a piece of hot scale decides to take up residence between your skin and the leather.

    • @Steven42192
      @Steven42192 Před 8 lety

      +James McMillen yes I want one and plan on getting one as soon as funds become available and I bet so lol

    • @jamesmcmillen4828
      @jamesmcmillen4828 Před 8 lety

      I really like them. The leather used is thin enough to be pliable, but stiff enough to keep your wrists from curling over (a bad habit) when you're hammering. Keep in mind, teenage daughters think they're cool and like to "borrow" them sometimes, so keep them in a secured area.

    • @ItsBoyRed

      +Rory May (Dirty Smith) You're probably right. It could mess up sometimes entire weekend. If they watch this now, they might think tomorrow is Saturday, then try to go to church when they think it's Sunday, and get embarrassed. Do you want that evil on you?
