Love this keyboard! SO many memories!
Thanks for watching TP! ;-)
The best synth in the VFX-series
What these old boards offer is the killer character of low res samples and converters. That was as good as there was but that adds so much unique color to them. sounds great
True! Thanks for watching!;)
This synth sounds so good and is so fun to play/sequence with. I hate my apartment because I have too many synths/not enough space. My SD1/32 is idling in my bedroom but I think I will put it back in the rotation today. Nice playing !
Of all the synths I owned, Ensoniq are my favorite ones. They have own character and unique sound I think. Thanks for watching!:)
This synth s responsible for a lot of number 1 back in day
A really enjoyable synth! I purchased new in the 1990 and still have in my Ensoniq squad 😊 Easy to program, great sequencer section and warm sounds. Great video, thank you!
Paolo Russo Hello! Ensoniq are one of my favourite synths. Back then they were Warships! And still nowdays I like much more than some of new synths. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate! :)
all this music can be used in the screensavers of different TV programs
Еnsoniq SD-1 super!!!
@@user-hu1yr4wh4o Thank you!
Had one. It was stolen in a burglary. Still remem6all these sounds. Especially X3P -Keys
Oh man, sad to hear that ;-( Still nowadays at least here in Japan it's not very common to see this model in auction. Good luck if you get one again. Cheers!
my 1st and fave synth....ah that 90's VOX sound...:)
Thank you! One of my favourites too ✨
05:43 Dakota - Runaway
The board looks nearly mint condition. I have those same sounds on my vfxsd unfortunately some of waveforms programmed for the sounds are not available. It's good to hear them played as intended. Thanks.
Yes, I just bought it second hand and for my surprise I thought the same. Probably the owner kept it without giving so much use. Ensoniq's are really fantastic machines. Thanks for watching!
"No talking" demo of musical instruments - it's very good,
but sound from the speakers/camera mic - it's not very correctly for demo of electronic musical instruments with outputs..
But sound of the synth is really Great!
Like :)
Did not touch the Patch Select buttons
recognise the chords to" isn't she lovely "
Yes Issie! ;-) Cheers!

I have an SD-1 that I purchased new in 1991 - I like a lot of the synth patches you demonstrated in the second half of this video. I could make good use of several of those - where did you get them?
Hello. I think some of the patches were from Ensoniq VFX series, but you can also use it in the SD.
Unfortunately I don’t own anymore this wonderful synth, so I can’t remember in which bank was each one, but anyway I think in this website you can find some of these sounds.

Thanks for watching! :)
@@eaglechildkeys - I was (and still am) a big fan of those ENSONIQ synths, and use my SD-1 for gigs frequently. Thanks for making this video, and thanks for the link!
Steve Sisson you’re welcome! I did another video with the Ensoniq Ts-12 that I own right now, and I’m preparing another with the SQ-Rack. Very powerful machines, I really do love Ensoniq as one of my favourite makers. Thanks ! :)
Very nice sounds/patches !!! is this synth needs an operating system disk to ''start up'' and what about the sounds to they need to be uploaded or they simply are ''built in'' ??
It never lose the sounds. It only requieres the OS for the sequencer. I had one.
Sounds great! Are these all built-in sounds or are you using a cartridge? Kind of hard to tell from the video.
Hi! Some patches are from the VFX Series. When I bought it, came with some floppy disks , and I think were the VPC series. Unfortunately I don't own this synth anymore.
Thanks for watching man, really appreciate :)
I thought the sd 1 replaced the vfx-sd In 1991.
I had this synth and what I liked the most is the option to desing and modify sounds. Filters and modulators like an analog synth. Is the any synth now a days that can compare with the SD1?
nacho moraga Hello! I’m not sure if now a days we can find something similar . I really love Ensoniq synths. You should try with the TS-10/12 series. Is an amazing synth too and I did a video in my channel :)
Your closest bet would be a Virus TI series. Since the SD-1/vfx used both classic va waves and transwave/wavetable. The virus TI series does these as well as graintable, formant, and hypersaw. Also the SD can do 6 patches at a time and the virus TI 2 does up to 16. So you'll get your complex layering too if wanted.
Also, I notice I don’t have some of the same presets I see in the video here. I’m assuming different presets can be loaded with a floppy disk? Unfortunately I don’t have any of the disks

Ensoniq synths are really a good option for AOR music :)
You realized! Love Dakota! :) I think so, love ENSONIQ Synths. So pitty they are no longer with us. I bet they could create really great synths nowdays!
How did you like the polyphonic aftertouch?
Hi! Tell me please, what the role of floppy disk? Should it be inserted before you start to play ? this synth sounds awesome and so nice!
Там же секвенсор есть. На дискетах можно было сохранять данные секвенсора.

Ensoniq são maravilhosos!! :))
Cool.. Just wondering if you knew how to change a sequence on the SD1 remotely via MIDI?
Is anyone very familiar with how to use one of these? I acquired one from a friend who went to Berklee and they were going to get rid of it so he was allowed to take it home. On a few of the settings there is this really weird diminished sounding pitch bend on any note you hit. This is mainly in the piano style bank. I’ve tried everything but can’t seem to turn it off. It almost sounds like an effect you’d use in a horror movie or something. It does sound cool but it renders the presets useless unless you want that effect on. Any help would be appreciated!
Nick Caliendo Hi! Did you checked the portamento? Or maybe some effects activated with the presets?
I don’t own the Ensoniq anymore if not I could check around the options, but the best should be do a factory reset.
That's probably a patch and not a setting onto a preset. since it came from a school, you can bet that someone programmed a few patches into it of their own. and this is a board that might not have fixed presets, you may be able to overwrite everything like on a DX7.
Hi nick, as to your post above you might want to check e-bay for the disks.
As far as your other problem it could be a couple of things,
It could indeed be the effect assigned to the patch. try changing the effect.
Another thing it might be is the patch select. (two grey buttons by the pitch wheel)
Each sound on the SD1 can have up to four patch variations. The default is "live"
Click on the patch select button (two down from volume) and assure that it says LIVE as opposed to (00) (*0) (0*) (**)
Also one of Syntaur's videos shows how to recaiibrate an ESQ, I'm pretty sure he said it works for all Ensoniq keyboards. Maybe give that a try?
You forget patch select!!!!
No modwheel interaction?
Sounds great still!! Do you know if the SD-1 patches translate across to the latter TS-10 (even if a piece of translation SW required to do so)? cheers 🍻😎👍
Thank you!
Sorry, Do you mean if it's possible to use the SD patches on the TS series?
Unfortunately I don't own the Ensoniq's synth anymore, because I sold to buy new gear, but as I recall, I used to play patches of the VFX to the SD, or of the SD to VFX and they worked fine ;-)
The Ts series not sure but...
Cheers! ;-)
@@eaglechildkeys Hey, cheers for quick reply! (love your uploads on YT). Okay I'll check out further as someone will defo know this - I'm expecting as the TS was the end of that line of wavetable/trans/hyperwave synths, that they'd require some sort of translation to make them forward compatible(?). Anyway keep up the great demo's! 😎👍🍻🎹🎶
@@theaudioeng Thank you ;-) Glad you like it!
I owned the TS12 before, and it was my favourite of the three I've played (vfx, sd, and ts) Really cool sounds, and possibilities!
The sounds on the VFX, VFX-SD, and SD-1 are not compatible with the TS series. The wave table is different, but many of the sounds from the VFX, VFX-SD, SD-1 would be found on the TS but in the TS native format. The waves are similar, but were expanded on the TS series.
@@shawnaebbeson7882 Okay cheers Harry 😎👍🎶
No significant aliasing in the high notes, am I hearing right?
my bro, whats the song at 6.20? huge ensoniq regards from wild Australia!
Hello Chris. It’s not a song, I was just improvising. Cheers! ;-)
@@eaglechildkeys its a great chord change bro, make it a song, we write exactly the same style thank you! I have VFX, Fizmo, 2 16 plus, 1 ASR 10 , ASRX and DP4 effects! Now thanks to you doing these similar anthemic songs here I am seeking a ESQ1 and SD1! legendary work, keep writing your a natural!

Si! te diste cuenta! ;-) Saludos!
Does this thing have any drum sounds in it?
I'm years late, but I thought I'd let you know that the answer is yes :)
why mono ?
EuroDJi hi! Unfortunately, back then my mixer had one channel that made a bit noise :/
Quem e melhor o SD1. You TS12???
I prefeer TS series ;-))
The SD-1 plays in stereo but you chose to present it in MONO sound video? In 2018? That's whack.
