    A common mistake a lot of people will make when teaching their kid how to drive is they get in the car, give them a 20 second "this does this, that does that" and then let's go. What they really should do is take them to a big empty parking lot 2-3 times for an hour each and just have them drive, maybe set up some cones for various things. Get them used to the vehicle and how it handles before putting them in a situation where theirs and others lives are in actual danger.

    • @elizathewolf886
      @elizathewolf886 Před 2 měsíci +37

      True, I wish my parents did that for everything. They did that for parking and turns signals, but that’s it. I had close calls like in the video because in the beginning of my training, I had no clue how much pressure to put on the brakes for the speed I was going (which was 45 and I was use to 20). I’d be breaking, but not be slowing down fast enough, so my dad would yell and i’d slam on the breaks like that boy and his dad did. Learning timing is crucial, for breaking, right on red, and yellow caution arrows.

      I forget the name of the phenomenon, but there's also this thing that happens in the human brain where it gets so focused on gauging and preparing to take action against something that it actually gets stuck in that mode and forgets to actually take the action it prepared.
      This occurs most commonly in people who are doing something that they haven't done before (learning to drive being a prime example).

    • @Astraeus..
      @Astraeus.. Před 2 měsíci +6

      @@chrisc.5911 Yea driving happens to be one of those things where it absolutely has to be learned by actually doing it. It's all well and good to teach somebody what they're supposed to do in a given situation but unless they actually experience a lot of it firsthand its really difficult to actually learn properly.
      A good example is that while my little sister was learning to drive, the first winter I'd bring her to a big Walmart parking lot or somewhere similar, especially if it was snowing or had just snowed, and I'd get her to intentionally slam the brakes, try to make sharp turns, accelerate a bit too hard, etc.... all just so she could get a feel for what it was like when the vehicle lost control or traction. That was 15 years ago and she's never had an accident winter driving yet....for reference we live in Canada, so when I say winter driving I mean like half the year 🤣🤣

    For the tanker imploding (17:04), it's kind of interesting. A professor brought this up in one of my physics classes.
    Basically, they seal up the tanker too quickly after washing it out, meaning the inside is still hot, and there's still water vapor in the air. As it cools, the vapor begins to condense, but since it's an airtight seal, that creates a sudden and huge drop in atmospheric pressure inside the tank. As a result, the pressure of the outside air pushes down hard enough to collapse the whole thing.

    • @notthemama7296
      @notthemama7296 Před 2 měsíci +6

      That is one possibility but another one essentially the same principle but basically you can also just fill it with something warm and it cools down or at a higher altitude and go to a lower one. EX if you were to fill a tank with gas at a at the temp of the environment in a hot climate and do a long haul to a cold environment or fill it at a high altitude and go lower. It does not even need to be "filled", apparently it happens when you empty what you are transporting then "fill" it with just atmosphere (AKA empty tank of normal air we breath) to get another load and there are defective/shut off valves for equalizing pressure. Like even just letting it sit there if you have not used it since the middle of summer or something (Hot gas means fewer particles of air can exert the same pressure) and then the pressure stays the same until the dead of winter (Gas cools, the particles exert less pressure and the surrounding air pushes in) and it is not allowed to equalize.

    There are two methods of braking in cars:
    1: Brake a little here and there on approach to gently come to a stop.

    The reason the girl was so mad in the relay race was the girl that was SUPPOSED to be passing the baton to her wasn't even trying to do it, most of the time when you see those kinds of races they hold their arm out when they get close to the next runner in the relay they have to pass it to...she wasn't doing that, had her arm close to her body and was waving it around as if trying to KEEP it away from her relay partner...which more than likely cost them the race something fierce due to the delay. I've seen people who have reacted to this who know about running track saying how justified she is in her anger at her partner.

    • @Ts6451
      @Ts6451 Před 2 měsíci +2

      @@shadowflamelightburst4503 It is just water, yes, though it's actually cooled well under the normal freezing point of water, that is, it's supercooled.
      You sometimes see this if you put bottled water or soft drinks in the freezer, the normal ice we are familiar with requires what is called a nucleation point, that can be something like a speck of dust in the water or a scratch on the wall of the container. If there is no such, water will not freeze at the temperatures of normal freezers, though if you continue to cool it down even lower, it will eventually freeze spontaniously.
      Supercooled water will probably nucleate if you pour it out, shake or knock the container or dropping in something that the ice can start forming around. When that happens, ice formation is pretty quick. If the drink is carbonated, it will probably freeze when the container is opened, as that causes a drop in pressure and formation of bubbles.
      As for @Telogor's suggestion, well, I have noticed that quite a few people have seen the example of supercooling and rapid freezing of a supersaturated sodium acetate solution, and think this something unique to this specific solution, when in reality it can happen in other liquids, too, and the sodium acetate solution is just convenient for demonstrations, being relatively safe and has a freezing point over room temperature.

    • @Telogor
      @Telogor Před 2 měsíci

      @@shadowflamelightburst4503 No, it's supercooled water that can instantly freeze, and it wouldn't be able to pour like in the clip. I said "freeze" in quotes because what's really happening is the sodium acetate solution is forming crystals of sodium acetate that hold the water in place.

    The fact that 1000+ people either set aside the time or where just that fudging bored that standing around while a dude eats cheese balls in an exaggerated fashion is the highlight of their day… humanity has truly evolved.

    15: 06 It is in fact seems just water to me. Supercooled water. IT's bellow 0°c, but it's not freezing, bc the crystals need a catalyst to grow on. If you pour it, or shake it somewhat hard, it freezes instantly.

    15:09 the water is super cooled the water is pressurized and then stuck in the freezer due to the pressure it remains liquid, when you disturb it it causes the water to freeze, it’s how icees or slurpees are made.

If that was supposed to be some kind of secret military whatever and they were recovering it, that dude wouldn't have made it anywhere near there with his camera. Some nice, very convincing big lads would have stopped him well before that and told him to piss off.

    It calmed me down and I think I tried to look down and see if I could find the fish who got my pacifier.

    @22:18 When I was in collage I had a friend who used to drive like that. His logic was: "if the lights would change to green when I was approaching an intersection I would not have to brake" He was just omitting the fact that the cars in front of him needed TIME to accelerate.
    I hated his driving style so much, and decided a public transport was a better option. I do not now what are his driving habits right now (It was over 10 years ago).
    Funny... his posture was similar, and he also used glasses ;P
    For those with similar habits: in modern cars if you release accelerator and your car is in gear, it is not using fuel during deceleration ("energy management") and you add more time for lights to change. Additionally YOU have more time to decide to stop and if your brakes fail, there is less energy in the crash.

    That boy should never go driving with his dad as the passenger again. He was clearly in control of his braking, stopped appropriately (though a bit close), and it was not a jarring stop. His dad, however, was in a total panic because his own foot was not on the pedal.
    My mom did this to me when I drove with her, more than once. I told her, "I was braking long before you began to speak." I almost added *If you can't handle it, you can sit in the back.*

    25:28 That isn't compressed air. If that were compressed air, you'd have an exploded can.
    Computer dusters use refrigerants, as you can make them liquid by putting them under pressure without needing a solid steel tank that would let you spray for 5 seconds.
    That is why when you spray it gets cold, cause this is the same stuff that makes your air conditioning or fridge cold. Refrigerants are very useful chemicals.
