In this video , I will be showing you all the kitchen of the ship along with the CHIEF COOK & Steward onboard .
We will also be showing you the food & stores we have onboard for our consumption & not to forget the galley equipments with which the chef prepares the dishes .
Food is one of the only things onboard which keeps us happy & it all comes down to how competent the chief cook is .
In the merchant navy industry more or less all the galley equipments look the same since they are certified & approved as per regulations .

The facilities on a ship are much nicer than I imagined.
That was a great kitchen tour! Everything looks so nicely organized and clean. Great to have separate coolers for different items so everything stays as fresh as possible. When they dump the leftover food items overboard, does it attract a lot of fish? Thanks to the cooks for preparing all the food! Hard workers! Thank you for another great video Karanvir!

No it has to be more hygienic, as per modern protocol no body enters kitchen without cap, can't keep card board cartoon in walkin cooler, chefs need to have proper uniform, no eating in kitchen

Yh filipiono cooks do loads of baking .Indian cooks bake cakes if needed by relie on shore bought loaves...also in other companies we get served on our table .. only during parties is the sideboard used for desserts..i miss sailing ..though Maersk has provided nice ovens hmmm.

On one ship we had new chefs from the 7 degree islands, the food quality went up incredibly, I so miss the mainly Pescatarian diet.
I was honoured to be able to eat with my Secunnie/lookout after my watch, this gentleman was extremely well read, as he had been a lecturer in Politics at a Bangladesh university, subsequently making a great name for himself (in safety) in the UK.
I must say that the galley layout is vastly superior to my time deep sea.
Again I will ask, "when will you be promoted to 2/0" wishing you all the best.

@@KaranvirSinghNayyar so it's been 7 months I am done with my boards and cleared all the competitive exams for MN, I am cleared with all the 90% work required to join the best institutes, as of now I am waiting for my board results which are going to be announced soon.
Thanks for motivating me and if somehow you remember this, I just want you to know that Sir you literally motivated me alot to pursue this career.
But due to all these current scenarios regarding cases from different shipping companies (anglo,DSN,WS,etc.) It has affected me mentally and I am in a state where I couldn't get hold of my thoughts.

hey you dont catch a cold due to temperature ex: cold weather or cold air. A cold is bacterial. So you catch a cold from germs. So if you went in there you would get cold, but wouldnt catch a cold. carry on mate :)

Nice video@karan , however, again a highly over simplified one.
Like you didn't mention the cutting boards are used of different colours, for different purposes one of meat, another for fish and shouldn't be mixed to avoid cross contamination.
The reefer rooms have to main temperatures below zero for meat and fish, an increase in the temperature can be a fault as per PSC and also Mlc inspectors.
It's easy to merely look and list out vegetables that have been stacked in the cold room.

Just few questions - does the kitchen equipments and utensils fall or gets displaced whenever the ships sails through the Strom or high waves ? Just saw in some other videos the chairs and utensils were moving here and there in a ship's kitchen 😅. Also is there an Indian chef onboard ship, making all the Indian dishes like Karele ki sabji and all ! Or the foreign chefs are trained to cook the Indian meals as well ?

I observed the cutting board with wrong knifes, green board green knife veg and salad, i saw on the table green board and brown knife.

How do they cook when there is rough weather? Isn't that difficult? What you guys do for food in such conditions?

Dishwashers never made sense to me. So you have to wash the dishes then put them in the dishwasher? Carriage before the horse lol
Hej Karanvir, You didn't check the expiry dates on the food stuff. Many Maersk ships that I sailed on had food stuffs that were 1 year over the expiry dates. Strange that no one died. lol. Anyway, good galley tour. Brought back memories. Safe journey.

Expiration date is almost a joke in some cases. Its more for the grocery stores than anything else. Some food are safe one year passed the date.
Are you free to take anything from storage room with Chief Cook's permission or do you need to pay for it? For example you want to get yourself a nutella and peanutbutter. Do you need to pay for it or you can have it for free but you just need to inform Chief Cook about it?
