    Got to say that I am realatively new to youtube , a couple of months now but after watching lots of the different guitar related channels Chappers and the Capitan are two of my favourite people. I dont care that they are in it to sell stuff , every one got to eat. They are very entettaining and genuinely are great players and possitive and enthusiastic. Congratulations Chappers on your impending Dadness.

    For those who don't know, the auto tuners on the pro versions are very nice to have, BUT they wear down on the nut quite a bit over a short period of time. I had a Studio Pro which I only had for a little over a week, and the "A" string started buzzing because it was eating down into the nut. I took it back and got the regular Studio, and so far it has been fabulous, no complaints from me about it at all.

    The Gibson classic 57's are my favorite PU combo in a LP. I've got another one with a SD Pearly Gates/ 59 combo in it and while it's a great combo 8 times out of 10 when I want a LP I reach for my one with the 57's.
    The PG/59's blew the 490's they replaced out of the water though. I know many people love them but they just aren't my cup of tea at all.

    What I believe is the cause of the wah sound, is because when it's out-of-phase, the sound from the neck pickup is going to be processed a split second after the bridge pickup. Because the neck is more responsive to bass and the bridge more responsive to treble, it gives it that sort of wah sound. And, this effect is MUCH more noticeable with Alnico pickups, too.

  • @Vash854
    @Vash854 Před 7 lety

    I believe the reason out of phase sounds a bit like a wah wah is because the wah basically reduces bass and increases treble as you push it down
    (or at least we perceive it this way, I think it just moves the peak frequency higher basically moving everything towards higher frequencies).
    The out of phase pickups cancel certain frequencies, particularly the bass frequencies get cancelled out more as the volumes are closer together
    so it's a similar effect to a wah. I think if you roll one of the pickup volumes down to bring them closer to being in phase and
    do volume swells up to out of phase it should give a similar effect to a wah.

    I'm in the US and really like your videos. I've been playing for 40 years and have enjoyed Gibson and Fender guitars (my pref) and have an idea for a show I know I would appreciate. You guys go through wonderful guitars and since I'm in the market for a Les Paul, I would like you guys to identify and demo THE PICKUPS for each of the models. So many combinations of woods, materials and pickups, I'd like to have a better understanding of how they're impacted by wood and material not to mention the different styles each pickups represent! :) What are the "hotter" LP's vs Traditional tones and etc. I'm curious of the 496T and 500T pickups and how they measure to the other pickups. Thanks for all of the videos ... still learning even at mid 50's!!! So cool.

      Felix Tatmana I just bought that exact guitar. Looks even better in person. Kinda reminds me of a '57 Belair Hot Rod all chromed out.

    I've had three studios and just bought a classic. My first studio was a traditional with BB pro pickups and traditional kluson tuners in satin finish. It was terrible... never stayed in tune and didn't sound great. My others were from the modern collection and were very well made and sounded great. In looking at both my last studio next to my classic I don't think one is better constructed than the other...both perfect... actually Les fret buzzing on my studio. The pickups on my last studio were 490's which are very warm. They use these same pickups on several custom shop models and they are very good... especially if you have an amp like a Marshall that doesn't have a lot of bass or warmth when playing clean. For bassier amp like a fender blues deluxe or Peavy classic 50 you have to turn the treble and mids way up. The classic 61 pickups are significantly brighter and have more clarity and attack. It just comes down to preference and the amp you are using. I think I actually prefer the 61's for my playing style... but neither better than the other both great. The push pull on both sound identical... but you get phase switching on the classic... which most people will rarely use. The coil tapping on both guitars sucks next to what you get on a PRS guitar but may still be useful on occasion compared to not having it at all. The only other noticeable difference is no binding on the studio and no hard case. So bottom line...is the classic worth $800 more? I say no. I bought mine used for only $280 more than I sold my studio for... so that was worth it for me... and for the color I preferred more. But I wouldn't have paid $800 more for pretty much the same guitar without binding and hard case... unless you really love the sound of the pickups on the classic more. The studio is a real bargain next to the others... it's just a mental thing that we want what the rock stars have when it really doesn't get any better than the studio other than bling.

      How would you contrast the Studio and Classic necks?

    • @thadlogan51
      @thadlogan51 Před rokem +1

      @@ldlegrandjr883 hmmm... I haven't noticed the difference... feel about the same to me...both about the right thickness... very comfortable. But I'm not picky about the neck... though I prefer slimmer. I have another PRS single cut that has a really wide neck and I wish it was slimmer... feels like playing a classical guitar almost because of thickness...

    Rob! Ooooh Silver Cross. You'll regret that. Look amazing, last for ages... weigh the same as a small family car. After 6 months of hauling that on and off curbs and public transport, you'll trade in for something with big arsed tyres and a carbon space frame that folds into a small square or one of those Maclaren buggies that look like a toy.
    Good luck with the nipper mate. It's a crazy crazy ride that'll break you mind and heart to varying degrees but absolutely worth every sleepless minute.
