    I’ve used the glass breaker on the back of my 917 many time for extrication. Yes I do have many other tools at my disposal. But It’s always in my gear and can be accessed quickly, plus it’s easy to control over penetration into the passenger compartment of a vehicle. So you don’t risk smacking meemaw in the dome with a halligan spike.

    • @ryanlajes6975
      @ryanlajes6975 Před 2 lety +7

      Very true, and I’ve always thought it to be beneficial when a tool has multi purposes. One tool that does more than one assignment, means having to bring a lot less tools and wasting time at the truck grabbing appliances. A lot of people that don’t want the glass breaker have never used it for actual real world application i.e a vehicle extrication or child/animal suffering a heat related emergency in a closed car.

    This was very refreshing (the glass-breaker rant). And the video brought back two memories. One, setting up the 10mm poly for my garden in Rockhampton. And Two, I used to buy those purpose-made glass-breaker/seatbelt cutter tools that mounted on a door pillar or wherever you reckon is a good spot. The moulded clamp held the tool really well and the glass hammer and the belt cutter were tools that really worked, because they weren't half-size add-ons to another tool.

Just think the situation people think a glass breaker will come in handy for is more unlikely than those. Breaking tempered glass is like some things, more about technique than force.
      If you feel you need a glass breaker I don't mind there being some knives out there with them, just not models that don't offer a non-breaker version. A sturdy punch ( steel tool) is very good for this as well.

    The bailout is ment to be a bugout for first responders and military who use glass breakers semi frequently. I think it works as a good full sized back up knife for first responders/Military because of its light weight and thin profile. If you hate the glass breaker on the bailout, I suggest getting a bugout. The glass breaker is a great tool to have on your knife as a back up for your dedicated tools. I love my bailout for that reason, it’s a good back up to my Letherman raptor.

    • @sqeeye3102
      @sqeeye3102 Před 2 lety +1

      I very much doubt the omega spring was in such a position that the blade could have cut through unless already broken. There just isn't enough room for the the spring to move into that position. I had an omega spring in my right side just snap in half from fatigue and no matter how much I used the knife both pieces stayed in place because they just had no where to go in between the frame and the scale. BM just uses terrible springs for the axis lock. I ended up getting aftermarket springs like you did but I had to bend them since they were too strong to replicate the feel of the old ones.

    So now, months later, do you still love the bailout? Because I love the bailout. And im rocking the 3v grivory version. It has reigned Supreme in my pocket over the last 12 months, near exclusively, dethroning manix2 in s110v.

    Literally never had an issue with the glass breaker. It's not uncomfortable. No hot-spots , nothing .... unless you have little girls hands...😅

    All jokes aside Pete, would love to know what your thoughts are on the M4 over the 3V version. Have you ever had your hands on Benchmade's 3V?

      M4 suits a folding knife better in my opinion. I’ve had the puukko in 3v and the toughness is optimized, not strength/stability. Apparently they’re treating it to 60hrc now which is appropriate for 3v.
      All my opinion. I’m sure the 3v is a good enough option, just not the perfect steel/heat treat for the application.

    i think you could have a glass breaker if it was part of the blade and would recess in the handle when the blade is deployed. its also cheaper to manufacture that way.

      Just a reminder, cars in the US are required to have laminated glass on side windows since 2017. European cars already use laminated glass for a long time (Mercedes at least since 2012, though not exclusively). So, make sure you check your windows before you put an utterly useless glass-breaker in your car "for safety".

    I enjoyed your video, I’m a Benchmade fan! On a separate note, how’s that mouse problem you have going on in Australia?

    Who do those (very large) vertebrae belong to?
    I found this vid very informative. I had NO idea that Australians ate omelettes. Also, had never heard another man say “Touch it up on my pants”… I like it. Next time I’m at a bus stop and need to strop a blade - I may just ask a gentleman nearby if I may “touch it up on his pants”. I foresee a positive outcome.

    After watching Road Warrior, Fury Road, and Razorback in a single go, which are really just documentaries about Australia, I can confirm that Pete knows what he's talking about. Glass breakers are stupid.

    glass breaker and seat belt cutter combo is what i carried in Iraq but the glass breaker was still absolutely useless because all the vehicles have super thick laminated plastic and glass armor for windows lol

      It is nice. We’ve been using one of those foolish glass top electrics. Finally brought gas to the house so we’ll hopefully get something sweet like that.
