Brenda was playing on Grand Ole Opry by the time she was 12. Brenda is 4'9", maybe shorter now as she is 77. Her husband is 6'4" and they have been married since she was 18. Check out Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.
I really appreciate the sincerity and sensitivity of this excellent reaction video. Big thumbs up. Brenda Lee's voice has such a remarkable tone and depth that each time we hear her again it is so stunningly beautiful! We had wonderful singers back then! And now we have what?? Taylor Swift??? Oh, please, what has happened?
Of course you know, Brenda was just a teenager, a very young teenager when she was at the top of her popularity. A really fantastic voice. A couple more Brenda Lee reactions please.
Brenda Lee has been performing since the age of 5, became the main breadwinner for her family at the age of 9 after the tragic death of her father after an accident on his job. She was a nationwide success by the age of 12. She's had a number of hits on both the pop and country charts. Among those hits are "Sweet Nothins", "Emotions", "Break It To Me Gently", "You Can Depend On Me". Brenda makes appearances on the charts every Christmas with her hit "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" recorded in 1958 when she was 13 years old! Some of her notable Country hits: "Too Many Rivers", "Nobody Wins", "Johnny One Time", and "Broken Trust".
I first saw and heard her on the Ed Sullivan show when she was 9. Ed introduced her by saying, Here's a little girl to sing for you and she won't need a microphone.
Thanks so much, Harri, for reacting to my very favourite Brenda Lee song ! .. So glad you loved it too .. But regardless of which of her songs you react to in future, you'll never be disappointed .. She has many classics, including some great uptempo numbers such as "Coming on Strong" .. But you're right, her voice was perfect for singing heartbreakers .. Wayne
For true delight, watch her performance of "Dynamite, early tv performance". It was her first tv appearance and she was 12 years old. She started singing on stage at 5 yrs old. She was from a very poor family and, after her father died from a job accident when she was 7, she became the family's main breadwinner at local shows by the time she was 10 years old. After "Dynamite" the world stage opened up for her.
Brenda was known as "Little Miss Dynamite" She was only 14 when she recorded Rock Around the Christmas Tree. She was around 16 when she sang I'm sorry & all alone am I. "Break It to Me Gently" is another great song.
Harri, we won't blame you one bit for getting hooked on Brenda. Many of us have felt the same way. For the record, she is as special as you think she is. When I was under 10, she seemed quite grown up to me and was my idol. My biggest aspiration was to grow up to be Brenda Lee. I hadn't worked out the details, children don't, but that was my plan. It was actually a plan worth having even though it was impossible.
Hari, I must thank you. All music is great esp when exploring new genres, it’s great to hear the classic rock you DJs seem to enjoy which makes me grateful. So you hear it many times & we listened in the 70s-& now we are all enjoying the vibes together. What took us so long, your culture is amazing, pls enjoy a bit of ours!
Especially amazing that she sang these tear jerkers because she got married very very young to her first boyfriend and they are together until this very day! ♥️♥️♥️
Manos Hadjidakis, a leading Greek composer, poet, songwriter, conductor and pianist. In 1962, the multi-award-winning composer also conquered the American South with his music. The song "Don't ask the sky" composed by Manos Hadjidakis for the film by Dimi Dadiras "The island of the brave" in 1959 gave him wings to travel around the world. Yiannis Ioannidis wrote the lyrics of the wonderful song that was uniquely performed by Jeni Karezi. With this piece, Hadjidakis opened the door to Country music and from there success on the American and British charts. In 1962, Brenda Lee will perform this particular piece entitled "All Alone Am I" and will soon be able to make it a huge success in the US and Britain, taking the top positions in the charts. hit the US and UK Top 10 while reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1962 and #7 on the UK charts in February 1963. It also spent five weeks on the US Billboard chart in the "easy listening'.
This is another one that's on my playlist Harri. This song is just so awesome!! Harri I know Christmas is still 3 months away, but Brenda has a Christmas standard that you'll hear playing on every radio station in December called Rocking Around The Christmas Tree. It's another Brenda Lee favorite of mine. I appreciate this reaction, thanks! 👍
She has such a powerful voice. Truly one of the greats. On another note Robert Palmer sang a song called Dreams to Remember. Its a real gut grabber/tear jerker.
She is still only 17 at this time. This is 1962 & she is still years away from her debut on the Country charts. This was a #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts where it sat for 5 big weeks. It hit #3 on the Pop chart.
She's so well known for her Christmas song Rocking Around the Christmas Tree but the song on her Christmas album that is one of my favorites and must have on my Christmas Playlist is The Angel and the Little Blue Bell. It brings a tear to my eye always. You have to put it on your Christmas reaction list please. I don't know how familiar you are with Pink but I was hoping you could please react to one of her performances at an award show. Her Glitter In the Air at The Grammys or Beautiful Trauma and or Try at The AMAs.
Brenda started singing on the radio then The Grand Opra at age7 after her Dad died in order to help her family. First song I remember of hers as a child was Dynamic.
I just found a video singing. Rockin Around The Christmas Tree in 1958, she released it. I didn’t know that and I love her voice. I found her singing as a child. The song is Jambalaya.
Harri, this lady was so short I saw her in Houston at theater in the round. It was her & Freddie fender.in person she has a super strong voice. 💕 I love your reaction channel sweetie 😘
Another wonderful reaction Harri! I'm only 4 years younger than Brenda. Your reaction takes me back to my younger years. Both happy and sad memories. Thank for your insight and empathy! You are easily my favorite reactor!
This song in particular, the lyrics match the music so intimately it makes it a real gem. She has other songs but "all alone am I" is number one. Yes exactly, it touches your heart like no other song.
Hey Harri! Fairly new subscriber. When the Holidays roam around, Miss Lee’s ‘’ Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” is a must! Thank you! Love, from the Great State of Oklahoma, USA 🤍
05/17/2023 Hello Harribest. Her voice cuts like a dull knife. So, so painful yet so beautiful. This was one of the best house partiy must play 45 before making out. Thanks again. Don
The musicians added so much to those recordings… the studio musicians in Nashville known as the A Team (Bob Moore on bass, Buddy Harman on drums, Floyd Cramer and later Pig Robbins on keys)…. They were on almost every Country oriented record at this time. Great sound
One of the saddest songs ever written and Brenda Lee sings her heart out. Such a beautiful voice. There are many versions of this song by other artists. Johnny Mathis does a good job too.
Brenda Lee puts the young stars today to shame. She leaves them in the dust. She had hit records as a child..and into teenage ages and later. Her voice os powerful..has gravitas.
Love your reactions to such a diverse selection of music. You're one of the few that 'get' the old stuff. I'd recommend Ruby Murray - Softly Softly; she was a great singer in her day and reminds me of my mum.
I love Brenda Lee's voice. I just need to know, the ariah in the background, could it be the female chorus singer of the SKYLINERS? It would be cool to know.
Mrs Rick and I were driving on an extended trip the other day while listening to our Brenda Lee collection of several hundred songs. We both agreed that she was at her very best when the song was either a sassy song or an emotional, heartbreak type song. She could really sell either genre of song perfectly. You felt her sass on the sassy songs and you definitely felt the depth of her emotions on the emotional heartbreak songs
you should here her sing my favorite by her......"baby that,s all you gotta do".......for years i thought it was sung by a guy (she was known as little miss dynamite)
Christmas just wasn't Christmas without Brenda Lee singing Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. It was one of those holiday songs that DJ's played in what seemed like an endless loop, causing most people to contemplate either homicide or suicide.
There's no denying the greatness of Brenda Lee's voice. It's so rich and husky and strong. She's a gem!!
Brenda had a mature voice from little on. The best singers are the ones who make you feel the pain in the song. Thats what a real singer does!
Brenda was playing on Grand Ole Opry by the time she was 12. Brenda is 4'9", maybe shorter now as she is 77. Her husband is 6'4" and they have been married since she was 18. Check out Rocking Around the Christmas Tree.
Debbi Sorrentino --- Just finished listening and didn't scroll comments. Didn't mean to step on your post.
Then she must have been 19 here. Or will be. This took place on February.
she has her own CZcams channel..and talks to all her fans still today.
I think she was only about 15 at the time she sang this song. This one is my favorite by her.
Brenda is just a tiny gal, with a huge, beautiful voice! Getting older now (like me) but she is still a little dynamo!
Of course you know, Brenda was just a teenager, a very young teenager when she was at the top of her popularity. A really fantastic voice. A couple more Brenda Lee reactions please.

Love Brenda Lee. My fav song by her is "Fool #1". 😢 Also a tearjerker
Haven’t heard this in a minute, Harri!! And I agree, her voice is very emotive.
Thanks for this! ❤️🔥❤️🔥
No one will ever be able to sing her hits anywhere close to the way she did. She is one of the greatest singers period.
Hari, other great songs by Brenda are Break It To Me Gently and Fool #1
I first saw and heard her on the Ed Sullivan show when she was 9. Ed introduced her by saying, Here's a little girl to sing for you and she won't need a microphone.
If you really want your heart strings tugged, check out her version of "Johnny One Time."

Another diminutive lady with a powerful voice 'similar' to Brenda is Timi Yuro. Her song 'Hurt' is a masterpiece of pain and heartbreak.
She was just a child. She supported her family with her voice. As an adult she was 4'9". She went on to sing as an adult, but not this song.
Watch her sing jambalaya when she was about 6 years old at the grande olde opry
love Brenda they called her" Little Miss Dynamite " she was 4ft 9 inches tall had 47 US chart hits peace out.
She was a singer and star since childhood with an amazing and bolestress voice since childhood
She carries her low range so well! Just enough of an accent to make her enunciation so unique. Quite a talent.
Such an amazing voice out of that tiny body. Love her music. More please

Her bio Little Miss Dynamite is a great read

Very proud to say that the composer of this song is our great Manos Hatzidakis
Brenda Lee is just amazing. She became a star singer as a kid, but, kept recording hits with a voice from outer space. Awesome.
I can remember my older brother in his shiny convertible with this song playing on the radio. She was huge for awhile in the early sixties. Nice 🌺✌️

beautiful! little miss dynamite does it again!! ; )
Especially amazing that she sang these tear jerkers because she got married very very young to her first boyfriend and they are together until this very day! ♥️♥️♥️
❤❤❤❤❤
"Break it to Me Gently". At 18 the emotional sensitivity and maturity of a 30-year-old woman.

A great live performance with her on you tube is titled Brenda Lee & the casuals singing Jambalaya, well worth checking out
She has such a powerful voice. Truly one of the greats. On another note Robert Palmer sang a song called Dreams to Remember. Its a real gut grabber/tear jerker.
She's sung happy songs, too. Dynamite & Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.
She sang Rockin Around the Christmas Tree at the age of 13 she was 17 when she sang this song.
Such a beautiful song and performance. The introductory music reminded me of Patsy Clines "Crazy" at the Carnegie Hall. Great reaction Harri!
Both Brenda and Patsy had Owen Bradley as producer
She is still only 17 at this time. This is 1962 & she is still years away from her debut on the Country charts. This was a #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts where it sat for 5 big weeks. It hit #3 on the Pop chart.

Strong recommendation, based on the fact you're falling in love with 50s and early 60s music: "Three Bells" by "The Browns"
Another wonderful reaction Harri! I'm only 4 years younger than Brenda. Your reaction takes me back to my younger years. Both happy and sad memories. Thank for your insight and empathy! You are easily my favorite reactor!
Play "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee.
This song in particular, the lyrics match the music so intimately it makes it a real gem.
She has other songs but "all alone am I" is number one.

Brenda Lee had many hits, starting from when she was only 11. "Too Many Rivers" and "Johnny One Time" are favourites of mine.
You must have heard her at Xmas on the radio singing 'Rockin' around the Christmas tree' and not realized it was her.
A fun song of hers is SWEET NOTHINS. Thanks Harry for another great reaction.
I so remember this song. Thank you for playing it
Sandra 🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦
I AGREE. TRULLY TOUCHING!.❤
05/17/2023 Hello Harribest. Her voice cuts like a dull knife. So, so painful yet so beautiful. This was one of the best house partiy must play 45 before making out. Thanks again. Don
The Doobie Brothers with Michael McDonald are playing live on the Jimmy Kimmel Show tonight.
Another great one I grew up with, an old voice in a young body,
As Usual - Brenda Lee was my late father's favorite.
And she was still performing as of last year!
The musicians added so much to those recordings… the studio musicians in Nashville known as the A Team (Bob Moore on bass, Buddy Harman on drums, Floyd Cramer and later Pig Robbins on keys)…. They were on almost every Country oriented record at this time. Great sound
Talk about music taking you back in time. I am 13 again in 1961.
Truly classic...Ty my man...
Her nickname was "little miss dynamite" She was 13 14 when she did these songs. Later in life shw did country.
One of the saddest songs ever written and Brenda Lee sings her heart out. Such a beautiful voice. There are many versions of this song by other artists. Johnny Mathis does a good job too.
She was known as the little girl with a big voice. She was only 4'9". Her first hit was when she was 13.
There's a video on CZcams of her as a younger girl, and it's like this little girl has the voice of a 40 year old.
Beautiful voice, she looks like a child.
Powerful voice, Love her songs! Dynamite, Losing You, Sweet Nothings, I’m Sorry, Emotions, Jambalaya…..to name a few
I think she started singing when she was 10 started in country music her nickname was Little Miss Dynamite
She's so good..my favo song of her is Emotions..thanks for your great reaction..bless you.
Great song, one of the greatest singers ever!! Sweet Nothings shows her grit and range, worth checking out.
I’m always listening to Brenda singing on my flash drive in the car when driving.
I’m 82 and use to listen to her on cassette tape.
Harry you’re a fabulous reactor . Thank you for reacting to Brenda Lee
An exquisitely most beautiful female singing voice I’ve ever heard! (And Karen Carpenter, too)
Portland Oregon USA 🇺🇸
This is my favorite Brenda Lee song. I can't think of any song, old or new, that I like more.
It's no wonder that she was billed as Little Miss Dynamite. Effortless power, control and projection. Love her.
Brenda Lee , man ❤️
play "I WANT TO BE WANTED" by Brenda Lee. great song
Beautiful
Brenda Lee puts the young stars today to shame. She leaves them in the dust. She had hit records as a child..and into teenage ages and later. Her voice os powerful..has gravitas.

A few singers like Brenda Lee have what is called "a cry" in their voice. Connie Francis is another one, and Dolly Parton.
Little Miss Dynamite ♥️
I lost my husband a year ago in February. Sometimes the pain doesn't heal and never will.
She recorded this at 17. Under five feet tall, with a voice to the sky. She was singing her ass off at 7.
She and Patsy Cline both sang with tears in their voices. Staying dry eyed was not an option.
you should here her sing my favorite by her......"baby that,s all you gotta do".......for years i thought it was sung by a guy (she was known as little miss dynamite)
You are so intuitive. Thank you for sharing
Christmas just wasn't Christmas without Brenda Lee singing Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. It was one of those holiday songs that DJ's played in what seemed like an endless loop, causing most people to contemplate either homicide or suicide.
Brenda Lee was born in December 1944. I believe this recording was in 1962. So about 17.
One of my favorite singers!
