Hey everybody, how's it going Today we're gonna be going over and showing you how to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver here on our 2021 Toyota CHR. So this is what the trailer hitch looks like on our CHR here. As we can see, it has a nice concealed design meaning the cross tube is gonna be tucked up, back away behind the bumper here. So the only thing we are gonna be able to see is the receiver tube, which gives us the best overall appearance. Now, what we can see the receiver tube has a nice black powder coated finish, which is gonna help it blend in well at the bottom of the vehicle, it's also gonna help protect the hitch from rust and corrosion, being that it is outside so over time it can be subjected to the elements. So adding a trailer hitch to your CHR, it's gonna be an excellent option, because it's gonna make your vehicle that much more versatile.
Now we can obviously use the trailer hitch for telling, but if we wanted to hit the trails, or free up some space inside the vehicle for us in the family on those long road trips, we could easily attach either a hitch mounted bike rack, or hitch mounted cargo carrier. So in regards to towing our trailer hitch here, is gonna provide us with a 2000 pound gross trailer weight rating. That's the amount we can pull outward on our fully loaded trailer, and also has a 200 pound tongue weight rating. That's gonna be the downward force on the receiver tube. Now keep in mind, these capacities are for the hitch only, which is tested separately of the vehicle.
Therefore we need to verify the vehicles towing capacity in your owner's manual, and then abide by the lower of the two rated components, whether that's the hitch or the vehicle. So in regards to those hitch-mounted accessories, we're gonna have a one and a quarter inch by one and a quarter inch receiver tube opening with a class, one rating. Therefore we're still gonna have plenty to choose from, but the class one rating does limit us to two bikes. So just make sure you keep that in mind. So on the side of our receiver tube, we're gonna have a half inch hole there.
That's gonna be our hitch pin hole used to secure our accessories. Keep in mind the hitch pin doesn't actually come with. We do sell these separately. However, most of your accessories are actually gonna come with their own specific hitch pin. You can see, it just inserts in there like so, secure in your accessory.
And then on the bottom of the receiver tube there, you're gonna see our safety chain loops. So those are gonna work great with both these larger style clevis hook. So it'll draw what we have here, as well as the smaller S-type that should be more common for this application. So a few measurements for you guys here. One that I like to do is your ground clearance, is gonna be from the ground, to the top inside edge of the receiver tube. And that'll be useful when you're selecting a Ball Mount. And that way you can make sure you get the correct rise and drop to tow your trailer level. That one there is gonna be right at about 12 and three quarter inches. And then finally the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outside edge of the bumper, it's gonna be right at three inches, and that'll be useful with your folding accessories, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier. That way you can make sure that while they're in the stowed position, that they don't contact the bumper. So in regards to the installation, it's really not that bad. I'll admit when I seen the hitch, I knew sorted design of it. I thought I was gonna have to remove the entire bumper, but that's actually not the case. We just had to separate the two parts. Now there is quite a few different fasteners holding this on, but nothing's really too challenging. We can usually get this done with basic tools. So we don't have to worry about purchasing any specialized tools. There is one you may not have, that's a Torque Wrench, but you can actually rent these for free, for most cases from your local auto parts store, we also have cost effective options, you can pick up with your hitch as well. But as we we're saying, everything is pretty straightforward to this, should take you a couple hours, just make sure you set yourself aside some time to do this. But aside from that, we can actually walk you guys through this entire process step-by-step now. So the first several installed, we need to come underneath the vehicle here. And on either side, we're gonna have these little trim panels on the bottom here. So these little plastic panels are held in place with several different fasteners, mostly pushpin fasteners. So we need to remove both
