His level of control to play softly despite the complexity is incredible
Always the best drumming ever. If Mr. Harrison never did these videos I would never understand the little embelishments he does in every song.
A long time ago was talking with a friend who's a Portnoy fan, and I'm a Peart fan, about a stupid Twitter poll about who was the better drummer. He thought Portnoy was a bit better technically, but would give the edge to Peart for songwriting.
I think Gavin is the best of both worlds.
@@Terry_Sieving agreed these are the best, but after seeing more of what Sucherman can do I believe he’s the best. Musical drumming, speed, solos, metal, Latin, jazz he does it all at the highest level. He shows about 20 percent of what he’s capable of with Styx.
@@larrytate1657Finally found someone I can agree with. Todd Sucherman is on Top for me. His story about when he first started, writing Steve Smith that letter and Steve responding is just great. Give a little guy inspiration and look where he is now
Not only he plays drums also music. God of sound
He has the gift to transform the drums in a pitched instrument, to compose as if he's playing a cello, to make you believe that playing drums is the easiest thing in the world
No matter how much he posts, there will never be enough content to consume of his.
1:53 moving left stick slightly to be able to hit both the tom and snare. Genius. Its all in the details.
Legend ♥️
I've never seen a drummer use their finger for ghost notes, let alone with the precision displayed here. Such an innovative musician who truly knows how and what to play, always. Inspiring to say the very least 🙌
That foot splash on the Hi Hat is so sick
was just about to make this comment.
One of my favourite he does. So small yet so big!
i can do that aswell nothing special
@@DavidKrautscheidit isn't about the complexity. Don't show off here. He said about the musicianship in this song. How beautifully the splash comments and gels with the song. Don't take things out of context
Ja
Thank you Gavin.
Beautiful song... beautiful drumming, Gavin. Those tom sounds are so very 'you' 🤘
What did we do to deserve two videos in a week 😅😎 amazing as always Gavin
So classy man!
That 'rim flam' at 1:54 and 3:01 is just something else man. Amazing as always! ❤
Every chop a statement, every ghost note a pillar of the framework. So many levels in such a small dynamic range. Admire his way of mastering the drums. Still one of my favorite musicians of our time.
always nice to be hypnotized by Gavin
The "side stick flam" really got me! Simply genius!
Holy crap! Thank you for mentioning that. I didn't even notice it until I re-watched the video looking for it. Thought it might have been unintentional, but it definitively was on purpose. There is so much technique in this 3 min. video. Simply amazing.
My fav drummer!
That was magic. The independence is mind blowing
Gavin blesses any work of music he touches
This is why we love Gav
You are a GURU for my mentality. Thank you for ur existance...
So subtle and fluid, so soothing to watch. One of my favourite songs on Versions of the Truth. " Your hands fall and suddenly, there's one last corner to go..."1:26 💜💫
I watch all these videos from amazing drummers play crazy double bass and things, then come to this and see the complexity of subtlety in Gavin's playing. Just beautiful.
Yes! Thank you Gavin. Pineapple Thief is such a great band. It was awesome to see you guys in 2022 in Florida.
What a great demonstration of playing what the song requires. Subtle and eloquent. Great dynamics. Gavin Harrison is a musician's musician.
This man right here is a Lord behind his drumset!
Great
And that my friends is what you call “Finesse”… delicate balance of precision and feel. Awesome Mic work to be able to capture each nuance, including the finger ghost notes hehe. Thanks Gavin, didn’t have the opportunity to see you with Pineapple here in Florida last year, but had the opportunity to travel to Chicago back in September for the Porcupine Tree show. Keep on rocking dude.
This song is amazing. And you are flawless as always.
Such a humble drum interpretation of this song.
What to say? Beautiful! Maestro.
So the finger tapping on the snare is awsome, but that left foot on the hi hat is next level how he uses it and makes different cool sounds....this is probably my favorite drummer on the planet, would be hard to find a name I could say I enjoy listening to more than Gavin....
Beauty thanks for sharing💕
Finally, my favorite song from the album
Absolutely beautiful style playing and execution. Great song.
Pom Pam PumPemPem Tsss !
Stylistic choice and musical taste at the highest levels as always ❗
What else can I say? These videos are gold, I could watch him play all day long, thanks again for your drumming Gavin
Wow ❤
That's the first time I see someone play with their hands this way!
NEXT LEVEL, great finger percussion
Light but very precise touch. One more proof that you don’t have to throw all your chops in every song you play. Keep it simple and always play for the song and for the music.
the less is more when every single note belongs there
0:52 wow!
Waaaaooo..me encanta.. versatilidad total
One of my favorites from The Pineapple Thief. Thanks for this vidéo!
0 dislikes, I guess this is just another argument that Gavin is best drummer for ever. So balanced playing, not overfilled with crazy fast technics, but Im totally can see a master here already. Damn
La sutileza, la suavidad, las texturas...❤
Absolutely beautiful
It looks like that bass drum is completely stuffed. I love the sound, but didn't realize it's filled!
👍💗🇬🇧🥁🔥💣🎼🔊))GAVIN!!!
I'm here via Porcupine Tree and King Crimson. Onya Gav!
Lovely little subtlety of playing a flam sound across the rims of the snare and middle tom at 1:54 and 3:00. I never noticed it in the original recording - thanks for sharing Gavin
Its always the little things he does. Always. I love his playing so much. So small yet so big
Gavin is simply completely dialed in, perfectly focused and such intricate compositions. My personal favorite drummer, once I discovered Porcupine Tree all the great drummers of my past just faded a couple steps back. Unfair perhaps as they set the stage for him, but he's unequaled far as I know.
Chill song
Amazing !
This is how you sing on the drums. Gavin, you beauty ♥
Absolutely amazing \m/
Drumming like maniacs
Always a pleasure to watch this man work. Thx.
Increible como siempre Gavin...
El mejor de todos los tiempos ❤
A joy for the eyes
Magistral !! saludos desde gto México
gavin, neil peart has always been my fav drummer and no one else can do what he does but.... you do it so different, u dont fill it all u give little bursts and it makes the whole thing alive, you are the best drummer i know for that reason u dont fill the gaps u actually create them
❤
Awwww, this guy is awesome! Not only the playing but also the drumsound is beautiful. The bassdrum - very tasty - I like the attack and the decay and everything in between.
Mr. Harrison, Toontrack has to contact you for a wonderful drum library! That would be awsome. I would by it just because of the bell samples!
Always classy
OK, I give up...damn, that's smooth...those finger ghost notes...I give...
for me it is absolute lovely to hear and see you play. I had a fantastic time seeing you with Porcupine Tree and two times with the Pineapple Thief. thank you for these cool videos. cheers
Suddenly, now I realize where that blue smudge on the snare head came from! From that blue stick grip during rimshots! 😁
Absolutely delightful to watch, pure class.
Smart and wise use of left foot, a pleasure to watch and listen...as always
Did you know that the best way to play ghost notes is and I quote:
"In the dark?"
Thank you for blessing us with these videos 🥹
Wowww fantastic!!!
Fucking incredible as always.
This is not a drummer... he is a maestro of percussion.
Beautiful!!
Absolutely clean and powerful.amazing
Beautiful song
Keep 'em coming!!😃
Beautiful feel for the tune.
such chill drumming here, very nice
Amazing composition ❤
Beautiful composition
Beautiful. I didn't realize drummers used their fingers at times. I'm not a drummer at all so it's probably common knowledge but that was super-cool to me.
As one who's been playing for 13 years, Gavin is the first one I've seen do that. I can't say if someone else might have done it before, but I know I never would have thought of it.
My favorite drummer. Period.
Awesome as usual 🤣🥁
1:55
3:00
dude! how!! flam!!! 😍
Love it! When will You come to Poland?
that ride breaks me
Another Gavin video yay!
Tasty and delicious!
Hi Gavin! Love all the work you do. Kindly create a video explaining your posture and ergonomics! I struggle a lot with fatigue usually. May be your advice can help! Love from Pakistan
@Salvador Diaz del Valle Santana I am not aware of this forum but I will try! Actually I am a guitar player and recently started with the drums. thanks for the info
🤗
This band really reminds me of Between The Buried and Me.
That's probably gonna sound strange to non musicians, but a jam with Dan Briggs and Paul Wagner would be mind blowing!
I think BTBAM was inspired by PT and King Crimson :)
The pocket
I just realized there's a bunch of blue on his snare head from his stick lol
Ghost note alchemy
