"Manor Lords is a gorgeous medieval city-builder that kept me occupied for hours building my perfect, cozy hamlets. But it's not the type of Early Access game that seems like all it needs is some spit and polish to be fully playable. No, it's definitely unfinished in several key, critical ways, notably lacking much of an endgame challenge or any way to put its flashy RTS battles to a real test. It's a great foundation, and I see a lot of promise here. But there was only so much fun I was able to squeeze out of such an incomplete demo. I will definitely be keeping my eye on Manor Lords and eagerly awaiting each new update, but I also wouldn't blame you if you decided to hold off on striking the earth for now. That's not a dig at all. I said the exact same thing about Baldur's Gate 3 when it first released into Early Access, and it eventually came full circle to become one of my favorite games of all time. But I have to be realistic about what's here right now - and it’s somewhat less than what would allow me to recommend it wholeheartedly."

90% of the buffoons who claim that "most games are pure garbage nowadays" do not actually play video games, other than FIFA, CoD, Madden, and Fortnite. They just get their information spoonfed from rage bait content creators. Either that, or they're clinically depressed and project their depression onto the entertainment they consume.

So defending it….. so what if one guy made it? If 100 people made a game and charged 60 dollars for it - then should this game cost 60 cents?? If he sells it for 30 or 40 dollars - then we don’t need to defend this guy for the quality of the game being poor compared to other 30-40 dollar games.
That being said this game is promising…

And Warhammer 3 a 60$ expansion pack disguised as a fully priced title that is a sequel for 2 other 60$ games and yet failed on so many levels got a 9/10 ... the jokes by this IGN reviewer don't end at Pharaoh XD.
this is a city building game not a total war game.

Sure it is a review of an early access, and WH3 was an expansion pack which was reviewed as if it is a full game, not only that it was in a state of early access on releases (6 months wait for EI). My point stands :)
7/10 is a great score for a solo dev! BG3 early access also got a 7/10 score.

You have to review a game made by 1 person the same as if it was 1000 people. The product is all that matters
Whether it’s early access or not doesn’t really matter, it’s the product that we have now that we can judge on and in many ways it’s better than most big studios completed fames

Once you actually listen to the video and the justification for the 7/10 it suddenly seems reasonable.

Complaining about not passing through a gate while the visit mode has legit a PROGRESS IN WORK warning, in a early access game, is just nitpicking to get a lower score. Same as complaining that your village is being raided by bandits while did not make a militia. Or complaining about the tax office not doing anything even though it's not even implemented!
@@NecramoniumVideo The lack of progression/endgame, the lack of challange in the games combat and the fact that the game only has 1 map so far justifies the 7/10, gampelay, visuals and vide are perfect, it just needs time to expand and this will easily be a near perfect game

Why are we scoring early access games at all? It’s still in active development and was “released” within the last week.
Or IGN, maybe make a different scale for early access: Promising, manage expectations, not recommended at this time, back to the drawing board?

Nice review. This will give an idea to developers.
One dev makes a game that looks amazing and might set new standards for RTS battles while it’s actually a city builder medieval economy simulation and says the game isn’t finished by saying it’s early access.
People play it and find bugs. Content creator then points out that the game ain’t finished but not that it’s only one dev.

They say, “feels more like a proof of concept than a finished product”, well that’s because in many ways it is, it’s far from finished but in many ways it’s better than a lot of other games that are “finished”
check out Ostriv and Songs of Syx. actual 8/10, 9/10 games. Manor Lords completely pales in comparison to those games. 7/10 is very generous, and of course given how hyped it was now IGN are facing the rage of a giant, unwarranted fandom.
So, you’d give soulless AAA games a 10/10, but this excellent game made by ONE guy a 7/10? Says a lot about reviewers.

@@maoribrotha53 Not exactly 10/10s. That was a stretch, but just look at their reviews from today until the last few years. Awful games getting very high scores.
Tropico 6 has the same score. There either is no rubric for scoring or it changes with every new reviewer that voices over the videos.

My review of this review is 3/10
to be fair he's very trasparent about what makes him give a 7/10 score; the game is still incomplete, but it's very promising, and the reviewer even compared it to BG3 saying that it was incomplete but promising too, and now it's one of his favourite game. He is not in the wrong for suggesting to wait untile the game is ready or almost ready

That's not what he meant, though. The review is on point, and early access has a wide range of possible game conditions. Nightingale is early access, for example, and still has an endgame goal. This game doesn't quite have that amongst other things. It's definitely just a foundation that is a fair review for those who might've expected a lot of content in the early access version.

So is the developer taking early access money/currency. There difference between proof of concept and partially complete.
Some EA games can be played happily but just need some extra content and tweaking. This needs more time in the oven which makes sense as it v small developer

The bandits destroying your town because you didn’t prioritise building a militia in bandit territory is not the games fault.
Then he complained 30 seconds later that the "issue" was he never needed all the combat commands at the bottom cause the combat was too easy (Which isn't the point of Manor lords, its not total war). He can't decide whether he's pro gamer or needs hand held xD
That wasn't his complaint at all. His complaint was that the raid was stuck in a loop.

Holy. When did IGN become so based. This and the Starfield review are the most sobering reviews I've seen in gaming recently.

WooW, I've been watching more than half of the video and the only thing you told me for that time is that an early access game has issues and bugs.
What is this game about? What does it stand above the others? What is the gameplay? What are those bandits that almost killed u in the beggining? How often do they come? What is the micro? WTF IS THIS GAME ABOUT?

My biggest complaint about your review is that you do not provide context to the games state. This game was created by a SINGLE developer. The fact that it is even in a more playable state at early access launch than many other games produced by larger studios is astonishing.
My take: If you have the cash and like the idea of this game, buy it now and help support the developer.
If you don’t have the cash or can’t warrant purchasing something unfinished, hold off.
...Or play it on game pass.
it was not "made by 1 guy" he outsourced alot of the work and it was mostly made on EU 4 engine. You all yelling "it was made by 1 guy!" think he actually made the game from scratch.

Classic 7GN. Those who claim it's made by 1 dev, clearly haven't seen the credits. Of course it's more than a guy for a game of this complexity. Or do you believe that he also recorded the soundtrack by himself? Nevertheless, I've been playing it all weekend and it's an amazing game, even though it's unfinished. Looking forward to the upcoming content for it.

Clearly this review is BIAS because of the money you get from big companies, but overall great score still better than cities skylines 2 and some total wars, and made by 1 dude in his basement.

If people gonna review an EARLY access game they should constantly throughout the video acknowledge that it’s not a full game, still missing some things and gonna is still being developed and gonna get better and most likely alot of features will change or be upgraded etc. Most ppl don’t grasp the concept of early access and if they see a bad review or ppl saying it not that great they won’t ever play it or even think about playing it later down the line once it is ready.
This is one of the more grounded reviews that avoids the hype train of so many other CZcamsrs. While this looks really promising it seems very EA, more alpha than beta.
If it was triple A IGN would have given it a 9 lol
