The biggest news this year is how far down the international box office is compared to years past. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes earned 1.35 times its domestic box office internationally while the previous Apes movie earned 1.9 times it's domestic. So, even though Kingdom is outperforming 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes domestically, it's total worldwide box office is way behind. And this has been true for most movies released in the previous year. Even Dune 2 is way down from Dune 1 in the ratio of domestic to international.
Is the worldwide economy that much worse than the US economy or are people outside the US just more sick of our politics.

I thought Furiosa was mostly enjoyable (Chris Hemsworth was the best part about it). But at the same time it fealt like a 6 hour series made for HBO MAX condensed into a 2 hour 30 min movie. Probably would have worked better as a series. Wish we got an actual Mad Max movie.
I also rewatched Fury Road after seeing Furiosa and man, it was so much better and even visually some of the CGI were not as noticable as they were in Furiosa.

I liked Furiosa a lot but it does feel like a Fury Road DLC. Had Miller made The Wasteland instead that probably would’ve done at least a bit better at the box office. Hell Miller could’ve recontextualise this Furiosa narrative into a Wasteland War movie between Immortan Joe and Dementus and still have Furiosa as the main character, but really focusing and selling the wasteland war between the Immortan and Dementus and it definitely would’ve sold better.

That's a bizarre American hobby, they (esp. the left) are obsessed by race, se*ual preference and gender. One of the reasons why the Woke movement rose in the States (which is for a large part to blame for the demise of cinema). We would have fallen in four ' race' categories in the States. It's beyond absurd but they love it overthere. And I always ask myself; who is counting at the theatre ? • @fafnir97

I'm mostly tired of most movies these days being led by women, with no real strong masculine men in them, no matter the genre. And even when the project is male led, around half of the time the male is weak and torn down while they have a strong woman to show him up.
Bottom line: it's ok to have strong women in movies, and it's ok to have to have female led movies. But it's also ok to have vulnerable women, and it's necessary to have male leads who are strong. Until Hollywood stops pushing The Message and course corrects (and not just fora few movies), movies will continue to fail at the box office, even if they are not bad.

I've heard it's not bad, nor woke but a movie without Mad Max (preferably Mel Gibson) is a loooooooooooooooooong shot. I agree with the girl bosses, it's getting ridiculous. Especially in historical dramas or post-apocalyptic movies. It's just absurd. It never happened or would never happen. So immersion is not easy to say the least
Moreover grown ups (except parents with children and the superhero/and superhero adjacent crowd) don't go to cinema after they turned it into a themepark, the chain has been broken, a century old tradition is kaput ! Whole genres went extinct. And it's a terrible shame because it was entirely unnecessary. There's zero diversity anymore and if a ' traditional' movie (from a plethora of genres) manages to break through the endless infantile crap no one shows up anymore because the culture of going to the cinema is gone.
And now Gen Z shows zero interest, partly because they are more based than the millenials, partly because they are addicted to the Tiktok's of the world and partly because parents, uncles, aunts, older siblings were unable to distill some love for moviegoing into them simply because there were almost no decent movies to take them to these past 10 years. Just imagine being a young teen who was not into the superhero genre. No classics, no cult movies, no movies that makes you think or surprise, nothing of note except (re-)watching older movies (e.g. the classics and cult movies of Gen X and the boomers). That's how a culture dies.
