We are so excited to tell you about Krønspel, an original strategy game that will be included with every purchase of the "Of Erthe and Axen" 2018 vinyl release!
Doc and Krueger games worked closely with us to create this concept, an asymmetrical hybrid of chess and checkers played by the inhabitants of Etymos, and first developed in the lands of Septentria.
The gameboard will be printed on the vinyl's packaging so you can enjoy the game with a friend as you listen to OEAA for the first time on vinyl!

So one thing I noticed is that the initial crown player by design has HUGE advantage over the initial pretender, regardless of the exact nature of the asymmetry. This is because in order for them to win, they just need to win, but in order for the pretender to win, they not only need to win the first round, but they also need to succeed where the first player failed. To get a sense of the scope of this advantage, if they game has no random elements or other sources of imperfect knowledge, then it can be solved. The optimal solution would either result in the crown winning, the pretender winning, or a stalemate. If the crown wins, then they just win. However, if that solution has the pretender win, then it flips sides, and the exact same strategy would be used to ensure the new pretender also wins, leading to a stalemate in the long term. So the design inherently makes it so in the optimal strategy, the pretender can't win. There is ways around that, but it requires making successive rounds not just repeating from the start.
