- 06/16/2024 Montour, Ia. At this time the tie gang was still yet to make it to Montour. The closest town to tie down the equipment was Tama which was roughly an 8 mile trip for the tie gang. I had a lot of train traffic that Sunday too with most of it after the tie gang was done for the day.
The parade of M.O.W. equipment was quite interesting. It's hard for me to imagine dreaming up equipment that could do the jobs they are designed to do. I guess that's why mechanical engineers need to go to 4 years of college to understand all of that. The intermodal that followed was long with lots of power. Good catches, Red! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤
Awesome UP drone catches and parading those mow equipments there in montour Iowa red I like when the UP coal train that DPU was smoking 👍😊😊😊
Thanks Diego! That's the worst smoker I've seen in Montour👍
The priority intermodal was long and fast with lots of power. I love that. ❤ The empty coal was plenty long, too! I love ❤ the shot of the crossover, Red! 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Glad you liked it Gary! Lots of action that day👍
Hello Red, the UP freight trains and the little dogs that cheekily bark at your dogs are great. The track construction vehicles and the drone footage were fantastically filmed. It was a pleasure to watch your video.👍👍👍👍❤❤ I wish you a nice Sunday, stay healthy and best wishes. Wolfgang
Hey Wolfgang, thanks! Had a little bit of everything in this video. Have a good one👍
Wow that intermodel was flying Red! Love to know how fast. Awesome sight. Like seeing the train changing tracks too, all the trains were great catches. ❤😊👍
Another great video Red. That was like a movie. Great drone shots. Keep them coming. Have a good weekend. Stay safe out there.
Thanks Rob! Yeah that was a long one. Obviously plenty of action that day👍
A spectacular video today, Red! Lots of great trains and a parade of track repair equipment. Plenty of either fast or long trains, and several that were both! I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation ' Red, and I look forward to the next one. Have a great weekend and please stay safe out there. Tell Walter and Roger I said hey! 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Gary, I'll tell them!!
@redsiowatrainvideos6645 You're welcome, Red! And thank you for passing along the message. 😃😃😃🤎🤎🤎
A fabulous westbound mixed manifest with a load of large plate steel on the rear! Quite a variety of freight. Good catch, Red! 🙂🙂🙂🙂❤❤❤❤
You really got a horn show from the MOW equipment! Great video
Thanks fallingup90!
Hello Red! Hope you had a Good Father’s Day when you were filming this video. Your Dogs are Top Railfans in your Area. Thanks Red! 👍🙏
You're welcome Ken! Busy day for dogs and trains👍
I thought I was seeing things Red a car coming down the tracks next to a speeding train! Just for a second I thought that was close! 😂 first time I've seen a high roller next to a moving train. Awesome. ❤😊👍
16 June 2024 was a very busy Sunday on the Union Pacific's Clinton Subdivision through Montour, Iowa, Red! All the trains had to use track #1past Montour, Iowa during the time that the Tie Gang was wording on track#2 about four miles west of Montour, Iowa. Once the Tie Gang's equipment made its way to Tama, Iowa after a day's work, the dispatcher was able to move trains on track #2. I was surprised that the first train that used track #2 after it was available for use was a loaded coal train. I would have thought that the first train to run on track #2 would have been a lighter train. The dispatcher must have felt confident that the Tie Gang did their job well enough to send a loaded coal train as the first train on track #2. The drone footage was excellent as usual, Red! Thank you for uploading this video for us to enjoy! (29 June 2024 at 0021 CDT)
You're welcome Thomas! Yes usually after track work they have slow orders until they feel there has been enough compaction. They calculate it by tonnage and then increase speeds after so many tons have gone over the work area.
I can answer this. The dispatcher usually runs a heavier train train over the tracks after the tie gang unless instructed differently by the tie gang boss. They are looking to settle the track as quickly as possible so they can fun full speed after the heavier train. Usually the heavier train will run restricted speed until over that section of track.
Usually another machine is included as part of the tie gang that shakes the track to settle the track so trains can immediately travel at full speed, after the tie gang and surfacing gang go in the clear. I didn't see one of those machines as part of this tie gang.
@@daveschmitt4499 Thank you for the information, Dave! Your information was highly informative.
Thanks Red great WOW parade hope you will see them working
You're welcome Ronald! That's the gang I caught working on my previous video👍
Nice job catching those trains red keep it up and be safe out there while railfanning union Pacific Railroad, please
Thanks Sebastian!
Man I love your drone footage there Red! Great video buddy.
Thanks Brandon! Flew the heck out of the thing that day👍
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 right on brother! You’re welcome sir.
Morning Red,
That was a fantastic start of this video, a nice and long priority train. Had some decent power on her with two mid DPU's. Nice little horn salute on the westbound coal train with 3 DUPs with a total of 6 engines! I'm going to assume that was a loaded coal train?? Nevertheless it was a long one. Not many flat spots in those coal cars, maybe one or 2. Hahaha the good ol' Johnny on the spot, well a couple of them. Not to many places along the line with spots to take a dump in lol. Not a bad job, just stand there with a stop sign. I'd say making decent money doing so. Don't think they are complaining. Some of that MOW equipment had some loud horns. Some more nice power up front on that westbound stack UP after the MOW parade went by. That looked like a really short loaded coal train (1st one). Great video as always buddy, fantastic drone footage as usual. Cheers from Southern Ontario 🇨🇦
Yo Phantom! I had my hands busy that day. Those traffic control guys were there most of the day. They were there like 4 hours before that MOW equipment even came back through. That was a lot of action that day and a way long video😃
My package I ordered was on that first priority train......
Regulator 1st
3 Tie cranes next
2 Spike pullers
Tie extractor
Another tie crane to stack old ties
Tamper I think
Plater
Tie crane
Tamper
Inserter
Spiker I think
Tamper
Several machines appeared to be out of order
4 Spikers
Used to be 50 yards apart traveling
Ballast regulator
Tamper
Last Tamper is for the surfacing gang
If the tie gang is working on Father's Day Sunday, they must be mad really good money!! 😮
Nope, they work 8 days on 6 days off.
@redsiowatrainvideos6645 Okay. Thanks, Red. I was just thinking that lots of places pay double for Sunday. 🙂🙂
🚂😎👍🚂
Nice catches!
Thanks Red. When you get a chance ask your father if he ever saw the ballast under-cutter the C&NW had back in the mid-70's . I think it was of European origin (German or Swiss?).
You're welcome Fred! My Dad and I were just talking about ballast under cutters recently. I believe I caught one traveling through Montour recently. I'll ask him👍
Two good mixed manifests next. One turned into empty coal and the other had a load of cool plate steel! 😀😀😀😀😀❤❤❤❤❤
Very nice video. Long train, 6 engines to pull. Question is there a law on how many cars they can pull and tue up traffic at intersection 😊
@user-re1fk3cq2c Thanks Stella! No law that I know of yet but one may be coming. Lots of crossings getting blocked for a long time.
If I'm not mistaken, restricted speed past mow is 40mph
Tama was a normal spot for Tie gangs to tie up for the night or weekend.
They tied down at the old paper mill siding recently in Tama.
Hauling A$$ on the UP I see!!
1789 hydrochloric acid 3257 molten metals
I think if I was a little dog like your neighbors are I wouldn't be barking at Walter and Roger like they are! 😮😮
Does the empty coal DPU just need tuned up that bad or is it something else, Red? 🙂🙂
Bad turbo possibly.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 Thanks, Red. I don't know diesels. 🙂🙂🙂
DPU has a serious turbo issue...
What does it mean when the DPU is smoking?
Too much fuel or weak turbo charger.
Are they triple tracking this area?
Nope. Just a wide service road.
