    he’s so real for not liking gale too much. katniss was just trying to survive and he’s like … “why don’t you love me?”😖 and people say peeta did this too but as we see on the train he immediately comes to his senses that he can’t hold that on her because she was just trying to survive. peeta showed so much growth in 30 minutes while gale just gets worse and worse.
    also i understand it’s annoying that katniss had to go through this again, but it’s just very accurate to how much control snow and the system has and wants to target her.

      it‘s like they tried to make us simp with gale😭🤣 am i the only one who thought he was annoying from the beginning? Reading the books i had respect for him bc he protected katniss‘ family and he saved people when they bombed 12. i‘m not really a fan of love triangles but for me it only took gale‘s character for me to not like him. from the first movie on he‘s guilt tripping katniss bc of the love story with peeta and he continues to make her feel bad for the way she feels about peeta. It‘s just pure jealousy. And him ending up to be responsible *SPOILER* for prim‘s death was definitely the last straw. that‘s why i loved how the end of the movies and books portrayed peeta and gale as these "two sides“ of katniss: peeta always seeing the best in situations and people in comparison to gale who might fight for the right cause but his morals and corruption stand in his way which led to him killing prim. peeta was always the kind and gentle guy that wanted to work things out while gale was just there for revenge or even power, which he got in the end as like some sort of leader in district 2 (i can‘t remember the details about his future). but in the end katniss ended up choosing the kind and gentle way (peeta) to handle things even when there was no hope

    They’re still in District 12 but moved to the Victors Village where victors are awarded their own houses. It’s a bit further than the Seam where Katniss grew up in and a good walk from Town where Peeta lived. The Victors Village has 12 houses built for the district victors and every district have them. They were also to receive money every month (enough to support 10 families) for the rest of their lives. Which means that when Peeta said they’d give a month of their earning to Rue and Tresh’s family every year, they’d be covered for life.

    Haymitchs quell had double the amount of victors and won by bouncing an axe off the force field, killing the last tribute. Bc the Capitol saw this as defiance, his whole family was killed. Then he had to go on and mentor children who he watched die for 25 years.
    Annie survived her games bc she was a strong swimmer and everyone else basically drowned. She has immense mental trauma from it and her and Finnick bonded over their shared trauma between the capitol and games.
    Mentors of the games often take in a more parental form for the victors bc of how much time spent w each other. Plus w Katniss and Haymitch, he’s more of a father figure bc their trauma and Katniss lack of father figure. He’s one of the few she allows to console her. Who actually understands her. Sorry to be a pain… but Peeta didn’t do it for katniss to see at all, I think people get confused. Peeta did it for himself, as his own for, of rebellion to hold the gamemakers accountable for what they did since it disgusts him, he wanted their anger to go to him rather than on katniss. He wouldn’t want to anger her here, he wants katniss to survive and katniss getting mad and doing something risky wouldn’t be helpful for that, it would just put a bigger target on her back than what he wants. Book wise katniss doesn’t see Peeta’s painting but knew he angered the gamemakers, so she decided to do something worse to put that negative attention back on herself since they both want to save each other. Even though the movie does it differently with katniss seeing it, there’s a deleted scene of Peeta telling katniss she was never meant to see it. I hope I don’t come off as annoying, I understand why people would think that but it’s the opposite of what Peeta wants to achieve and sometimes he just does things for himself, especially since he broke the rules and stayed painting for 40 minutes refusing to leave when he’s supposed to only have 15 minutes

    You guys will get it after seeing all the movies ( so you have the whole story ) but Peet’s was not going to let Katniss go without the shot of him being there to protect her, if they had called Peeta name Haymitch would have volunteered and nothing Peeta could have done, that’s why it was so fast… Peeta gave up everything for Katniss his life his freedom from going back in the games all cus she’s his world and thinking only one is making it out Peeta was going to make sure she was that one ☺️

    • @scahearn6279
      @scahearn6279 Před 6 měsíci +5

      Haymitch does say if his names is called and Peeta volunteered there is nothing he can do. However, I believe Haymitch actually needed Peeta to go into the arena so that he could work with the rebellion on the escape and because Peeta would be able to keep Katniss from acting on impulse so she would remain in the necessary alliance. That is why everyone was saving and protecting Peeta was so that Katniss would stay in the alliance.

    • @scahearn6279
      @scahearn6279 Před 6 měsíci +1

      That and if Peeta was in the capitol mentoring Snow would have easy access to grabbing him. Haymitch and Katniss know how each other think so Haymitch knows how much Peeta means to her even if she doesn’t so Haymitch knew damn well Snow having Peeta would break her and keep her from agreeing to being the Mockingjay. So Haymitch needed Peeta in the arena.

    • @scahearn6279
      @scahearn6279 Před 6 měsíci +6

      The book establishes that reaping can be rigged. So I believe the third quarter quell reaping was rigged by the Capitol so that Peeta would enter the arena. Killing Katniss with Peeta still alive and mourning is just as dangerous to them. At one point Katniss describes the benefit of Peeta living through the arena instead of her is that his love for would leave him a tragic figure whose ability to weave words and move a crowd would help to lead the rebellion. So the capitol either needs both Katniss and Peeta dead or for one to kill the other if they hope to quash the uprisings. The fact both Katniss and Peeta pull 12s for quarter quell and the events of mockingjay demonstrate this. However, the rigged reaping benefits the rebellion’s plan because Haymitch needs Peeta in the arena and 13 so that Katniss will be easier to control. I say Haymitch because until Katniss’s reaction to Peeta’s death key players thought the star crossed lovers was an act on her part.

  • @scahearn6279
    @scahearn6279 Před 6 měsíci +35

    The problem with these movies is in order to sell the love triangle they upgraded Gale and downplayed Peeta. While the romance between Katniss and Peeta was a show they had to present it was actually real. However, you had a 17 year old who had big feelings she was having difficulty processing that she pushed down under a microscope being forced to be a distraction. At the end of Catching Fire Katniss says “I trusted him [Haymitch]. I put what was precious [Peeta] in Haymitch's hands and he has betrayed me.”
    Gale was never an actual option in the book. He was friend zoned and portrayed as Katniss’ cousin so that her only friend being interviewed during the 74th Hunger Games wasn’t a good looking male..
    Peeta had rooted in Katniss’ heart with the bread that saved her and she kept tabs on him. In fact she was upset he was reaped after she had volunteered. Katniss also references several times their eyes would meet at school only to flit away from each other. I would argue if Katniss was the spark then Peeta was the air that allowed it to catch fire.
    There is no love triangle in the book…it was always going to be Peeta. A lot of his stuff from the book was cut of the movie.
    A sampling of Katniss thoughts on Peeta in Catching Fire.
    ***He manages to wake me and calm me down. Then he climbs into bed to hold me until I fall back to sleep. After that, I refuse the pills. But every night I let him into my bed. We manage the darkness as we did in the arena, wrapped in each other’s arms, guarding against dangers that can descend at any moment
    ***I wish Peeta were here to hold me, until I remember I'm not supposed to wish that anymore. I have chosen Gale and the rebellion, and a future with Peeta is the Capitol's design, not mine.
    ***So what should we do with our last few days?”
    “I just want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you,” Peete replies.
    “Come on, then,” I say, pulling him into my room.
    It feels like a luxury, sleeping with Peeta again. I didn’t realize until now how starved I’ve been for human closeness. For the feel of him beside me in the darkness.
    ***I look up into those blue eyes that no amount of dramatic makeup can make truly deadly and remember how, just a year ago, I was prepared to kill him. Convinced he was trying to kill me. Now everything is reversed. I’m determined to keep him alive, knowing the cost will be my own life, but the part of me that is not so brave as I could wish is glad that it’s Peeta, not Haymitch, beside me
    ***Peeta and I sit on the damp sand, facing away from each other, my right shoulder and hip pressed against his.
    After a while I rest my head against his shoulder. Feel his hand caress my hair.
    "Katniss... If you die, and I live, there's no life for me at all back in District Twelve. You're my whole life", he says. "I would never be happy again."
    I start to object but he puts a finger to my lips. "It's different for you. I'm not sayin it wouldn't be hard. But there are other people who'd make your life worth living." ... "Your family needs you, Katniss", Peeta says.
    My family. My mother. My sister. And my pretend cousin Gale. But Peeta's intension is clear. That Gale really is my family, or will be one day, if I live. That I'll marry him. So Peeta's giving me his life and Gale at the same time. To let me know I shouldn't ever have doubts about it.
    Everithing. That's what Peeta wants me to take from him.
    "No one really needs me", he says, and there's no self-pity in his voice. It's true his family doesen't need him. They will mourn him, as will a handful of friends. But they will get on. Even Haymitch, with the help of a lot of white liquor, will get on. I realize only one person will be damaged beyond repair if Peeta dies. Me.
    "I do", I say. "I need you." He looks upset, takes a deep breath as if to begin a long argument, and that's no good, no good at all, because he'll start going on about Prim and my mother and everything and I'll just get confused. So before he can talk, I stop his lips with a kiss.
    I feel that thing again. The thing I only felt once before. In the cave last year, when I was trying to get Haymitch to send us food. I kissed Peeta about a thousand times during those Games and after. But there was only one kiss that made me feel something stir deep inside. Only one that made me want more. But my head wound started bleeding and he made me lie down.
    This time, there is nothing but us to interrupt us. And after a few attempts, Peeta gives up on talking. The sensation inside me grows warmer and spreads out from my chest, down through my body, out along my arms and legs, to the tips of my being. Instead of satisfying me, the kisses have the opposite effect, of making my need greater. I thought I was something of an expert on hunger, but this is an entirely new kind.
    ***As I drift off, I try to imagine that world, somewhere in the future, with no Games, no Capitol. A place like the meadow in the song I sang to Rue as she died. Where Peeta’s child could be safe.
    ***When I wake, I have a brief, delicious feeling of happiness that is somehow connected with Peeta.
    ***By late afternoon I lie with my head in Peeta’s lap making a crown of flowers while he fiddles with my hair claiming he is practicing knots. After awhile his hands go still.
    “What?” I ask.
    “I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in it forever,” he says.
    Usually this sort of comment, the kind that hints his undying love for me, makes me feel guilty and awful. But I’m so relaxed and beyond worrying about a future I’ll never have, I just let the word slip out.
    “Okay,” I say. I can hear the smile in his voice. “Then you’ll allow it?”
    “I’ll allow it.
    ***When Peeta holds out his arms, I walk straight into them. It's the first time since they announced the Quarter Quell that he's offered me any sort of affection. He's been more like a very demanding trainer, always pushing, always insisting Haymitch and I run faster, eat more, know our enemy better. Lovers? Forget about that. He abandoned any pretense of even being my friend. I wrap my arms tightly around his neck before he can order me to do push-ups or something. Instead he pulls me in close and buries his face in my hair. Warmth radiates from the spot where his lips just touch my neck, slowly spreading through the rest of me. It feels so good, so impossibly good, that I know I will not be the first to let go.
    ***I like to watch his hands as he works, making a blank page bloom with strokes of ink, adding touches of color to our previously black and yellowish book. His face takes on a special look when he concentrates. His usual easy expression is replaced by something more intense and removed that suggests an entire world locked away inside him. I've seen flashes of this before: in the arena, or when he speaks to a crowd, or that time he shoved the Peacekeepers' guns away from me in District 11. I don't know quite what to make of it. I also become a little fixated on his eyelashes, which ordinarily you don't notice much because they're so blond. But up close, in the sunlight slanting in from the window, they're a light golden color and so long I don't see how they keep from getting all tangled up when he blinks.

      Book Peeta was amazing and that does not come through in the movies. They upgraded Gale though. In the movie Gale is whipped because he was defending people and attacked a peace keeper in the book Gale leaves Katniss because he is upset that Katniss’ plan to leave the district included Peeta so he heads to head peacekeeper Cray house to sell a turkey and discovers Cray has been replaced by a new head peacekeeper who arrests him and whips him from poaching. This change makes Gale look better. In the book Peeta puts himself, Katniss and Haymitch on rigorous and demanding training and diet plan to prepare them for the Quell he has them training like Careers to ensure Katniss and Haymitch both come home. This change makes Peeta look weaker.
      In all actuality Peeta is so much physically and mentally stronger than both Gale and Katniss that he literally loses everything (his leg, his family and himself) but manage’s to find his way back and still see that life can be good again.
      Read the book it’s amazing. Peeta was too good for this world and deserves more respect than these movies give him. Katniss would have not made it through all three books if not for Peeta, but she would have made it regardless of what Gale did.

      The kiss she gives Gale right before the quell reaping does not exist in the books pretty sure they added it so there was one romantic kiss between them. There are only 4 kisses with Gale in the book and none of them romantic. The one president snow sees which Katniss doesn’t know how to feel about but plans to give a speech basically rejecting it that never happens because they both end up acting like it never happened, the kiss while he is one the table after the whipping that she hopes he doesn’t remember, the kiss she gives him after his retelling of the bombing of 12 and his remembering the whipping kiss but he tells her she only kisses him when is pain and the kiss when she is a shell of a person who is mourning the loss of Peeta and trying to feel anything but loneliness and grief which he breaks off telling her to now kiss him because he knows it’s Peeta she is thinking about. However, every book there is a kiss with Peeta which causes her to feeling stirrings in her chest, warmth to spread throughout her body or causes her to feel hunger. So it really was not a love triangle she wanted one of them and it was not Gale.

    the author of the books actually got the idea after watching the news and having a nightmare about what‘s going on in our world these days. The movies play in the future where panem (the old north america) is the only place that survived climate change and war. this new government (the capitol) was created by the rich people where the poor people were put into 13 districts and each has their own task to supply the capitol. The capitol lives in luxury while the districts are starving "the rich get richer while the poor get poorer“. This led to the first rebellion where the capitol then made a deal with the strongest district which was district 13 (military district that provided weapons for the capitol) where the people of district 13 had to leave panem forever so the capitol could end up bombing the place of district 13 to make it look like they‘ve killed them all to spread fear. This lead to the end of the first rebellion and after that the capitol came up with the hunger games to keep the districts in line.

    Mockingjay part 1 is my second fave of the original movies coz it has the details that the books can’t show since it’s written in Katniss’ perspective. It has more to do with how the rebels/districts react to their Mockingjay and how greatly she affects the rebellion. It has some of my favourite scenes and a really good setup for the final movie.

    also, Katniss does in fact still live in district 12, but if you saw on the sign it’s called the “Victor’s Village” which is basically where the winners of the hunger games lives. Each district has a victor’s village neighborhood. meaning Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch all live in that neighborhood.

    You can't move out of your district in Panem--all of that is restricted. The Victors' Village is specially built for the winners of the games, set aside from the main town... but only Haymitch, Peeta, and Katniss live there. And Haymitch lived there alone for two and a half decades.
    Of course, the real question was "What if you actually fall in love with someone who they're forcing you to pretend to be in love with?" She basically was just not interested in a relationship at all, and people on all sides with different motives were trying to force her into one.

    29:16 Peeta actually used his very limited time reserved to impress the judges to paint Rue. He knew Katniss was going right after him and knew that she's the most threatening when something touches her. He witnessed it many times; Katniss does best when she doesn't have the time to think about consequences of her actions and simply executes things. That scene is so perfect because you can see her getting fueled up at Rue's sight. You can see her go "You killed Rue? Well, in turn, with a few berries, I killed Seneca Crane, who was in your seat last year, so be careful for your life." It was definitely a threat which Peeta made possible.

    If nobody told you, Joanna and some of the other people previous victors when talking to katniss or being around katniss they were being overtly sexual because they could tell how uncomfortable she was from that in the first games. Like there was some moments in the book where Peeta basically had to disrobe to get at certain wounds and whatever and she refused to look. It was even like that when. Gayle was brought back to her house after being whipped half to death and that was the intention the new head peacekeeper was intending on whipping him to death to send a message. So when they got him back to katnisses house and the mother and sister started taking care of him, they immediately took off all the clothes and started mixing up home remedies and they were told to gather snow from outside which they would mix with herbs to create something called a snow coat that they would put on the lacerations and she refused to look. She's very uncomfortable with that sort of thing. Her sister, who's 13 at this time didn't give a flying f*** that there was a naked man in the room but katniss was very uncomfortable

I don't know if it's ever happened, but as you'll see in this movie, some families have been hit more than once like that pair from. I believe district 2. They were a boy and a girl who were reaped in back to back years I mean just think about what that would do to their family. So Gail's beating was different in the books. It was for a different reason and whatever what happened was after he had his argument with katniss. He goes back to the town square with his kill which was a wild turkey and he brought it to the head game maker who he didn't know was just replaced by Commander thread. The previous head game maker was a good customer of his and his favorite thing to buy was turkey so he naturally after shooting a turkey came to him to a It is fresh as possible and the other guy having just taken over caught him red-handed with something he shouldn't have had cuz he'd have to go outside the district gate in order to get it. So he was basically red-handed poaching so the guys like okay. Let's take him to the square and make a example of him. He beats this man and tell he his back is just in shreds and he is unconscious other peacekeepers go up to him like hey the kids already unconscious. We're done here and he proceeds to punch those people and knock them. Unconscious and actually they come back in the series as people who have had their tongues removed for treason (avox)

    A lot of the victors get forced into prostitution after winning the games (Finnick is one of them, Joanna too but she refused so they killed everyone she loved). Keep in mind that every tribute is reaped from a pool of under 18s so they're all essentially minors. It's ironic Katniss was initially against the starcrossed lovers storyline Peeta created for them in the first movie, because them being a public couple saved them both from being forced into sex slavery.

    Gale and Katniss aren't together but he does like her that way, and did before the events of the first movie. Maybe it was his vibes you were picking up on.
    There is a part of District 12 (and every district) called "Victor's Village" with nice houses. That is where Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch live now. But it is still District 12. It's a bit crazy because most of them are empty and people freeze to death and sh!t. The movie doesn't really explain it besides one quick moment when Katniss passes under a sign that says "Victor's Village."
    Peeta painted the image of Rue as his "skill." He does it to "hold them accountable." Katniss doesn't see it in the books. It doesn't really make sense that the Capitol would allow her to see it. But movies are a visual medium.
    Beetee (the Smart Guy) did not attempt to kill himself. He said his plan was to electocute the Careers but his real plan was to short circuit the force field (as Katniss did with her arrow). When he drove his knife into the force field to connect it to the wire, he was blown back like Peeta was earlier. He never said his real plan aloud so Snow wouldn't know but Plutarch (the Gamemaker) made sure the wire he needed was among the weapons.

    The peacekeeper knew who she was, he was just so angry he didn't think and check who he was hitting.

    Ok so when Katniss saw the painting of Rue on the ground before her “score audition” or whatever, the artist was Peeta. The tributes audition in order by district, male then female. But Peeta was showing defiance towards the Capital, and maybe intentionally spurring Katniss to do something crazy and boy she delivered 😂

    Also peeta drew rue to rebel in a way to draw all the anger off katniss on him and katniss knew this when she saw it and realized what peeta was trying to do so she did something worst so the anger would focus onto her again

    Winners of the hunger games live in their distric still, but in their own little suburbs street with mansions for them. Its usually empty because not everyone for every distric wins. So its only a couple winners per distric. Their prize kinda sucks, but compared to squirls and wet bread in the rain... its something.

      They don't just get the house, they also get a bunch of money AND food delivered to the entire district for life. They are still being kept under the thumb of an oppressive regime, but that's the Capital's strategy: get the districts to forget the big picture, and instead focus on competing to win because it allows them to become a source of relief and provision for their entire district for DECADES.

    Please stop trying to make Gale and Katniss a couple. They're not. They never were.

      Eh, that’s not what people were saying 10 years ago. The “Team Gale” versus “Team Peeta” energy was really strong when the books came out. Even though the author didn’t focus on the love triangle as much as the movies do, teenagers love the love story and will “ship” who they want together. I see it all the time on tumblr in other fandoms lol. And now that I’m an adult out of fandom…it’s definitely more annoying to me now lol 😅

      @@jessicamagri8211the teens were always shipping, but canonically, they never were. In fact, Suzanne Collins originally wrote them as cousins, but the publishers pushed her to change it for a forced love triangle perspective.

    They still stay in their district after they won. They just go to the victors village of that district. Which is where haymitch was living all alone cause he was the only district 12 victor (well living anyways)
