    Christi, love your video and can’t wait to find a filigree to try! Question: it’s my understanding there are distinct differences between the various polymer clays. Some are better suited when strength is needed, some better if slight flexibility is needed and so on. In this video you seemed to suggest they are pretty interchangeable. Did I misread you? Thanks!

      @FireMountainGems  Před 4 lety

      Hi Barbara. It's really a personal choice on what clay is going to work best for you and your project. Here's a great article that explains the difference between the different brands of poly clay: www.firemountaingems.com/resources/jewelry-making-articles/cb7m

    Do you think that this would work as a button? You could either leave holes or make a small ring shank for a coat button.

    • @FireMountainGems
      @FireMountainGems  Před 2 lety

      Hi Linda. That's a great question! It would definitely work as a button but we wouldn't suggest attaching the polymer clay buttons to clothing that will be washed and dried in a machine.

    If you use the hotfix glass crystals, do you also use a little "bake and bond" with it to keep them very cemented and permanently baked to the clay?

    • @FireMountainGems
      @FireMountainGems  Před 4 lety

      Yes, for a secure bond, using a bake and bond is recommended.

  • @IreneKiew
    @IreneKiew Před 5 lety

    Hi Christi, thank you for this tutorial -- I do have all sorts of ideas running through my head now! One question, would you still glaze these pieces after they are baked? Also, some filigree plating tends to wear off over time, so would glazing help to preserve the color plating on the metal? Thanks!

    • @FireMountainGems
      @FireMountainGems  Před 5 lety

      Hi Irene. These questions are all personal preference. Yes, you could glaze the final product if you want that look, either matte or shiny depending on the glaze you chose. Glazing may also dull the crystals if you have applied crystals. All plating filigree or otherwise, wears off over time. Glazing helps protect it and makes it stay nice longer, but it is not essential.

    • @FireMountainGems
      @FireMountainGems  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi there, if you're talking about filling a bezel with clay, we suggest using Poly Bonder in the setting just to make sure everything stays adhered after baking: fmg.co/JCmFu8

    Hi Christi, thanks for sharing this cool project. I didn't quite catch the name of the stick/wax tool for picking up the crystals. I thought there may have been a link as per the more expensive tool, do FMG sell the stick tool (i can't justify the cost for the more expensive one at present) - thanks...

    Hi I’m doing projects out of a book called “The sculpey way” and it has colors in it that I would think that they should have but I don’t see them on the website, like pink, brown. There are more but could it be that those are just too boring of names, lol I mean blush is pretty much pink, isn’t it? I don’t know.

    • @FireMountainGems
      @FireMountainGems  Před 6 lety

      Hi there, do you mean they have colors already made or are they mixed color variations? Most clay companies only make a handful of basic colors and then you get to make your own hues. Have you seen this video about color mixing? fmg.co/zL9CVs This is for Fimo, but it will work the same way for Sculpey.

    I wish they had a "starter" kit--10 or so colors of clay in small cubes or something. For about $15. Otherwise you can spend mucho bucks and maybe not like the craft at all. Been there, done that. So I'm shy about starting anything new...Sorry. But you have so much fun and I LOVE seeing that filigree come to life!
