  • Captured directly from the arcade board with my new capture card. See angular metal bastard Dural get slapped silly by Akira!
    Better quality version (stereo sound, 60fps, levels adjusted). Not a perfect capture but the best I can do with my current gear.

      not the first (there was a boxing game for atari-coleco) but the first with that impressive complexity and depth gameplay. Check that fingers, never seen before. At Vf2 the characters follow its adversary rotating their heards and in Vf3 rotating their heads and following with eye movement. Never seen it again, not even in the Vf5 Ps4 remake.

    I wish all these arcade versions could have PC ports. I would definitely buy a VF Collection. I know VF3 is in Yakuza and VF2 for PS3 is a good port but I want all the games on PC without having to go through Yakuza to play them lol. Plus VF1 hasn't been ported since the Saturn and Windows 95 versions I believe.

    How did you capture this and at what resolution is the original video.
    One thing I noticed recently was when I plugged in the Astro City Mini via onto my 4K tv, the backdrops from Virtua Fighter looked really pixelated. This version in your video, running on the arcade hardware does not have that problem even when the video is zoomed in.

    • @retromuel
      @retromuel  Před rokem +1

      Hi. The arcade board outputs 496x384p resolution. I upscaled that to 1080p using an Extron 300a with the optimal timings etc. That's interesting - I'll have to have a look at some videos online as I don't have the Astro Mini. The Extron gives a pretty sharp output but it won't be as crisp as a straight digital HDMI output. Also the RGB output from the board itself isn't the sharpest (but it's not bad). Maybe there's something else at work there though. Maybe a filter of some kind that wasn't implemented on the Astro Mini?

      I plugged in the Astro City Mini into my 4K tv and though the fighters and stages looked ok, all the background animation looked dreadful. It looks fine on the small screen of the Astro City Mini, but it looks bad on tv.

      Hi, yes the static backgrounds look terrible on a larger 4K screen. The game itself plays ok, as far as I am concerned. When I plugged the unit into a 4K tv, I didn’t pay much attention to the replays and that doesn’t bother me much anyway. In the Astro Mini’s screen, I noticed no slowdown during replays so perhaps it is just with external displays.
      I think it is still pretty good, but it does have some annoying idiosyncrasies and I wish it didn’t. It is snowing in London UK right now. How is your neck of the woods?

    • @retromuel
      @retromuel  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Probably the Astro City Mini version I guess. MAME is much more accessible obviously, but I believe it still has some glitches. There are various old home ports, most of which are good, but all of them have their drawbacks. There still isn't a completely ideal way to play this one in my opinion, outside of playing the original arcade version.
