    Why did they get rid of the Magsafe power connector? That thing saved my Macbook Pro from being knocked off the table at least 30-40 times. This new 2016 one is more like a toy, the old one was a tool.

    • @FrenchSaladMac
      @FrenchSaladMac Před 7 lety +18

      vnitto Apple knows that, but they took the feature out so u have a higher chance of breaking the '16 version, therefore your forced to pay for it to be either fixed, replaced, or opt to buy a completely brand new one, making Apple more $$$$

      @JoshuaKissoon Před 7 lety +4

      Have you seen the price for the 2016 models? falling off a table can't break it.

    • @Skarth77
      @Skarth77 Před 7 lety +3

      Because it was big and bulky. Sure it was a really nice feature, but they needed to remove it to make the laptop smaller.I also heard that the laptop was light enough that the Magsafe power connector was actually too strong and wouldn't reliably break away everytime. Don't know if that's been confirmed anywhere, but it seems to make some sense. I've read that the convenience of charging from any of the four ports is great. So there's pro's and con's to its removal, but it's a step they had to take at some point. Hopefully at somepoint we'll see something akin to the MagSafe power connector in future iterations.

    • @kapilbusawah7169
      @kapilbusawah7169 Před 7 lety +7

      +Skarth Nope. The Pro series was never designed to be light or loose functionality. The '16 MBP looses the ports so Apple doesn't loose money paying for proprietary ports, which Apple solves by making dongles at ridiculous prices to generate more income.
      Pro series is meant to cater to professionals in their field, which often, weight, doesn't much matter in.
      Besides it's only 0.19kgs lighter. MagSafe 2 would've still been better than USB-C regardless of the effectiveness of its' weight.

    • @Skarth77
      @Skarth77 Před 7 lety +9

      That's a questionable statement. The macbook pro "lost functionality" in exchange for size when it lost things such as an optical drive, Ethernet ports, firewire, etc. I don't think that many people would be pleased with having massive laptops in exchange for small amounts of function. I mean magsafe is helpful, but it's not particularly high on my list of what I want in my laptop.
      I by no means am a complete fan of the 2016 macbook pros. I was planning on investing in the 2015 macbook pro before the 2016 on was announced, and now I've been on the fence since it's announcements. The lack of magsafe isn't a huge factor here, it's the lack of ports, mainly USB 3, that is. The industry is definitely moving towards USB C, but it's not there yet. That's why my struggle is deal with dongles or hubs now, or be stuck with USB 3 while everyone's using C down the road.
      For me personally that size difference does matter. As a student who is always on the go, yet still needs the power of a pro model. The difference in size may seem small on paper, but is definitely noticeable in person, and I can only imagine is quite significant when carrying it around for upwards of 12 hours a day.

    I'm getting the 2015 MacBook Pro 15" with upgrade processor (2.8GHz (turbo boost to 4.0 GHz) for a number of reasons
    1) ports inc. SD , USB , HDMI
    2) MagSafe
    3) higher processor rates
    And ultimately the cost
    Why buy a worse MacBook for more money , be smart people

    • @jamesrogers9887
      @jamesrogers9887 Před 7 lety +24

      Jamie Pirie 1. Ports can be used through dongles
      2. MagSafe is a a loss but you can replace it
      3. It's an older generation processor. It won't be much faster and it will be MUCH less efficient
      4. The screen isn't as good
      5.the speakers aren't as good
      6. The trackpad isn't as good
      7. It's not future proofed
      8. It won't have the touch bar
      9. Can't power 2 x 5k displays / 4 x 4K displays
      10. Is heavier and uglier than the 2016 model (granted neither is ugly!)
      But that's just my opinion...

      Jamie Pirie It's not a bad idea. But benefits from the new MacBook is.
      1. Faster SSD
      2. Faster graphics (15 inch)
      3. Slimmer design
      4. Display, speakers.
      In the end I think you will gain more speed from the SSD and the graphics card then from the small CPU difference. Either way both a great machines.

    I own a 2017 macbook pro and let me break up some things for you.
    Touchpad: unecessarly big, less palm resting space
    Keyboard: horrible, youir fingers hurt after writing longer documents and you do not get used to it easily (1 key break, you have to change whole top case, 500$-700$)
    Touchbar: you only use it for brightness and volume, comes in handy in final cut pro actually, but other than that only drains your battery, so pointless (repare costs???)
    Ports: Too early for going over to usb-c ports, too little usb-c products in the market (dongle life, $$$)
    Replacments: 2016 and newer models, replacments and repairs are nearly impossible, 2015 and older, you can replace battery, storage, ram and it won't cost you hundreds of dollars.
    Other problems: dust under keyboard makes it break, thermal issues, screen glitch, case popping (have them all)
    Price: 1400$ for 2017 base model vs used 2015 for 700$

    Hard decision tbh, new one is sleek and has touch bar but old one has light up logo and magsafe. However im leaning towards getting the older one as no doubt Apple will be working on bringing magsafe 3 and light up logo back in future models.

    • @keller109
      @keller109 Před 7 lety

      Why is the light up logo even relevant? You can't even see it while using the damn thing. Only an Apple fanboy who cares more about the brand name and what other people think than the technology would give a shit, so strangers on the other side of a dimly lit room would be able to see that you're using an Apple product. Who cares? And magsafe is nice, but again... still at the bottom when comparing these laptops. The focus should be the hardware. The 2016 has large touchpad that hinders typing, countless people have had glitches with the touchbar, and it requires dongles. Apple has not added anything really new with this laptop, but the price is sky high. And even for the 8gb! You could buy a much better laptop at a LESSER price with better technology.

    • @Awayze
      @Awayze Před 7 lety

      There are plenty of laptops that are NOT Windows that are technically better. For Apple, you're paying for the name. Granted Apple offers a great experience and the shit consistently works the way it's supposed to. That is where your money going. If you want a powerful machine that is truly versatile you should look elsewhere. I have a 2015 Macbook Pro and I have a 2014 HP. My HP has a 15 inch touchscreen, an excellent graphics card, 16gb, 2.9 ghz and 1 TB of space. I paid $1000 for it, and that was 2 years ago! If I wanted the exact same thing for my Macbook Pro I'd be spending over $2500!

    • @Awayze
      @Awayze Před 7 lety

      Would never buy a HP, Dell, Acer etc laptops, I have a custom built PC with a i7 4820k, GTX 680 SLI and 16gb of ram but I want a laptop, my MBP 2009 was fast and smooth until it got water damaged and its screen res and contrast ratio was still superior to high end laptops in 2014 when I got a Vaio to get me by but like all non custom built Windows PC, its started to slow down. Speaker quality, webcam quality, backlit keyboard, battery life, macOS, Apple Store support kinda makes it worth it to go with a MBP plus they don't slow down, even after so much dodgy downloaded shit and being dropped everywhere, my MBP was still fast. I have 20% work discount but the specs I want for the new MBP, its still pricey compared to last years model. HP Spectre, Dell XPS or w/e their high end models are called, they're all pretty much close to MBP prices but lack the refinement and support.

      It also has better display and better speakers along with touch id and touchbar, which will surely get great application support in a few months.
      You also get future proof super fast ports even though they might cause some trouble with dongles currently, but if you are gonna use your laptop for 3-4 years atleast, better carry a few dongles now rather than regretting it later.
      The main reason why I suggest you to go for newer 13" MBP is due to the fact that it has TB3 ports which can be used to add external GPUs and you can easily use Nvidia graphics instead of the built-in AMD Radeon. Your 1080p youtube requirement is easily satisfied by the Intel HD but if you need the extra graphics power, you can use external GPUs. This way, you save money, get a portable laptop and also can make it powerful enough using eGPU when required.

Four USB-C ports, importantly having two on each side of the computer (which is much more convenient for choosing side of charging, ext. monitor etc. than the non-Touch with its two USB-C on the same side); slightly faster RAM; slightly faster video card; and three built-in microphones instead of two. Compare on Apple website. Just wanted you to know the true differences before you make your choice. 😊

    Man those are some slight changes on the bench mark speeds and I'm pretty sure with this new touch bar the Macbook is going to need that extra power from the processor.

    This video compares the Macbook Pro 2016 with Touch Bar to the Macbook Pro 2015. However, the Macbook Pro 2016 WITHOUT the Touchbar comes with only a 2.0GHz Processor compared to 2.7Ghz for the 2015 model. Got to compare apples to apples.

    I do (relatively intense) video & photo editing (premiere/photoshop/Lightroom). I can't decide between the 2015 15" or 2016 13" for uni?

    which mac is better ? 2.4ghz with i7 or 2.9ghz with i5 ?? i am not so impressed with the touch bar...

      2.4Ghz i7. The speed generally doesn't really mean anything. The most important part is the architecture of the CPU and the features that come with it. Generally, an i7 has better multithreading performance (Good for video editing) in comparison to an i5. An i5 is usually good enough depends on your workflow. If you are those types of person that likes to open 20 chrome tabs while doing programming, go for the i7.

      Sadhu Koushik also the 15 inch is allot faster since it's quad core. Just go into a apple store and try it for yourself you will see the huge difference.

    claim to fame.. touchbar? in some areas maybe, but for the rest, it is not as useful and kinda seemed forced. apple used to make things easier and is user friendly
