    Your farm is going to be a tourist attraction one day. That's awesome. My grandfather used to do the same thing with his banana plantation... the hole in the middle where all the food scraps would go, and bananas around it. It works wonders! Congratulations on the hard work. How many acres did you get?

      Ken Tichy it's almost 7 acres so far. Trying to buy the house next door which would include another 5.5 acres

      That's cool man! Glad you're able to afford it. I'm planning on having a farm in Costa Rica when I retire. It's definitely cheaper to live there! And I can grow pretty much anything as you already saw during your travels.

    I was listening to Bill Mollision mention Coconut circles. He says the nut production was about the same even when packed closer together and the added advantage is your coconuts handle hurricanes much better. I cant seem to find anyone who has done it on youtube.

    I love the coconut idea. How about a video on different coconut varieties pros and cons.

      LSanti sounds like a great idea! Next time I'm in Miami, I know just the place to see a variety of varieties of coconuts.

    Looks good. Thanks for sharing. What do you plan to do with the farm? Sell fruit, give tours, or just to support your household food needs?

    Beautiful! Have you found the circle planting method to be successful with other tropical plants?

    • @WhatsRipening
      @WhatsRipening  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes, it's a great source of fertility for whatever is planted nearby. Banana, papaya, and coconut are often used

    Nice video. How long did your banana plants took to fruit?

    • @WhatsRipening
      @WhatsRipening  Před 6 lety

      David Da Twin usually about a year. depends on what time of year you plant though and the variety

    great video,i was wondering if over time the grass will make its way on to the mulched beds or is there a way to keep it from doing that

      DDG surf art - yes, that can happen. I'm planting ground covers like sweet potato and bean though to cover that area. last year, I was able to hold it back with mowing and occasional edging with a weed wacker. the mowed grass spits out the side of my mower and piles up on the edges too which suppressed the grass.

      Cool, i tried to lay down banana stems as a border to weed wack against but i like the ground cover idea better thanks for the ideas.

      if you have bermuda grass it definitely will make its way either from under the mulch or creep in from the sides. It helps to remove as much of it as you can before putting a layer of cardboard and compost then mulch it.

    would adding liner and clay cat litter in hole hold more water? just received d namwahs and i have 12 in deep beds of npr florida mulch

      Skibrzy I think the mulch is enough but you could always experiment. Once the rain soaks into it, it stays damp for a long time.
