If you are interested in this type of fishing and its traditional soft hackled fly patterns it is known as North country wet fly fishing. Check out W.C. Stewart's 1857 book The Practical Angler.
The original partridge and orange is tied with pearsalls orange silk. In the UK people go to great lengths to match the colour of the original tying as when submerged the fly becomes a much darker browny orange rather than being bright like your version. Also it was traditionally fished upstream on a short line as part of a team, a bit like what you Yanks would term high sticking.
