Thank you for helping people without putting up 500 commercials to make money, some other jerk has more commercial time on his video than content just about. I hope your views go through the roof.
I can’t control some of them. YT is gonna make their money. I can add in some slots and yeah it would cover more of my expenses but I think most people resent all the commercials. It’s more important to get the information out. I’m glad you appreciate that.
Absolutely awesome video!👌 I'm just putting mine back together after a clean up and wanted to make sure I didn't screw anything up. This was time well spent.
Just wanted to thank you, just rebuilt my 1406 after sitting for 24 years on my 1973 GMC Jimmy fired right up.
Good work! 👍
Just used a few tips in this video, to help me rebuild a buddy's carb. Despite being a veteran mechanic, always got my ears open for new ideas. thanks.

Good deal! We all learn every day we work on our stuff! Best part about being a car guy. It’s always something new. Appreciate it!
I didn't know that Edelbrock used a chem film or the like on the body or airhorn. I think the newest ones have ptfe on the shafts, though.
I do recall when I used to refurbished Carter AFB and AVS models that they were bare alloy. We would use a Foredom or dremel with wire cups all the time. Nylon, too. The real problem was residual from fuel additives and of course oxidation on the exterior.
And diesel fuel soaking was the norm before the rebuild. This is a great video. Thanks.
Great video. I'll be attempting to rebuild my first carb next weekend and this is just what I needed. Thanks.
Matt R glad to hear that!! There a few other videos in the Edelbrock Carb Tech playlist. Lots of tech tips and fuel system set up info. If you have any questions, please let me know. Always glad to help.
You helped me rebiuld my 650. Though I have to warn those whom by off ebay or Amazon. Be careful, the parts kit I got, supposedly american made, didn't fit the carb I have. Learning lesson you buy what you pay for..
I appreciate you taking the time to explain everything in detail! I’ll be rebuilding a carb for the first time on my ‘65 Galaxie tomorrow and I’m way more confident I can do it now after watching
Yup. It’s not that complicated when you can see it done. I’ve got a lot of Edelbrock carb videos. Don’t hesitate to search through them if you run into any issues. Or just drop a message on a video and I’ll try to respond quickly. Good luck!
@@MuscleCarSolutions just wanted to come back to say thanks again my rebuild was successful and the Galaxie is running better than it ever has in the time I’ve owned it
That’s great to hear! Good work!
Fixing to rebuild my 1406 for the first time, Thanks for the video!
Thank you for this well explained video I will be rebuilding my carb on a 350 v8 this weekend feeling more confident than these “professional” brand companies explaining it with a bunch of ads
Literally every one of my holley buddies can ear tune a holley. But they all bring their small equipment to me to get tuned in. Guess that's above their pay grade. So to speak. 😂
My name is jeff.and your videos are awesome.Been a big help.
Thank you for the informative video. I can’t wait to rebuild my first Edelbrock!
You’ll find it’s pretty easy. I have lots of videos on it and how to set up the rest of the system. If you have any questions please ask!
The best rebuild video...thank you for taking the time to make it
Glad it was helpful for you.
I’ve used both brands edelbrock and walker carb kit , when you buy a walker you have to get the right one for your car say it’s a 1406 electric choke it’s has only the gaskets for that one the edelbrock style some general kits will fit other Carter carbs , edelbrock carb kits are made by walker but are more specific to edelbrock. Kit price’s are close in cost walkers are about 10 bucks less so it depends on what you need but please people don’t buy those Amazon cheap kits they are junk never bought one but some friends tryed to have me rebuild a carb with that junk and I said no don’t waste my time , your videos are such a great help
We reviewed all of those kits in a couple videos. The knock off ones are a complete waste of time. I feel sorry for anyone that’s bought one!
Soooo. I love the info in your videos!!!! I just bought a 62 nova that has a built 350 0.40 over in it with a complete edelbrock top end. Aluminum heads, big cam, air gap intake, dual 500 cfm carbs thunder series edelbrock, 9.4:1 compression.
The bad thing is the car has sat long enough that the rubber fuel lines had 3 inch long splits in them. Of course the carbs need rebuilt and thanks to this video I think I have it under control. However that is another complication in a way. The car was tuned to run strong at 900 ft above sea level. And I live at 3500 ft above sea and will be driving the car up to 4000 ft at times. So I'm basically starting over with a completely new tune in on this whole set up. I might need some advise from you along the way. Any starting point that I need to consider when rebuilding the carbs for the thinner air at higher elevations would be great. Also I live in Arizona so the heat is also a factor. Thank you for your work on these videos. I really appreciate the resource to reference.
I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the videos. I have one more for you to check out! 😆 How to tune a carburetor for higher elevation is the title (I think). It will give you some tips on two extremely critical things you’ll be adjusting. Ignition timing and the carburetor tune. Check it out and if you have any questions I’m happy to answer. Good luck with the rebuilds!
You sir are wealthy with knowledge. Thanks for your wonderful videos. Im on my way to tuning my Dad's 69 camaro.
Best of luck! Enjoy the process. Don’t hesitate to ask any questions you might have along the way. Happy to help if I can.
Thank you for this video. Rebuilding a 1412 and was confused by the pump discharge weight in the rebuild kit, carb only had the ball and spring in when i took it apart. Put it back together with the weight like you suggested and set the floats like you did as well. Thank you!
Yeah that will catch you off guard if you’re not ready for it. One of the many reasons I do these videos. Very happy it helped you!
Great video! Used this to rebuild my 1405!
Great video. Fixed my problem with my accelerator jets
Wow, excellent video. This gives me the confidence to take this on for the first time. Thank you!
Take your time, take pictures when you take it apart if you need, come back if you have any questions. Good luck!
just did my 1411 .. had a missing weight above the check ball… i think that explained why tip in / part throttle just fell on its face! mild low compression 454 in a Gbody
That would do it! I’m sure it was pulling too much fuel through the accelerator pump circuit with no way to regulate it. Good work!
@@MuscleCarSolutionsActually the AFR would go up to 19 during tip and bounce around but once into secondary pulled hard. Glad i was able to do it today .. been bugging me all week

Awesome video!! Will be my first time doing a carbueator kit. Appreciate you time and expertise.
Take your time, watch a couple of the other videos I have done and you’ll get it! Let me know if you have any questions! Best of luck!
Thank you thank you thank you for this video! Im having terrible trouble with my v8 and i assumed that it was related to ignition. After seeing your video i thinki ive made a few mistakes when rebuilding my carb. Thank you so much :-)
Nice! Hope you find the trouble quickly! Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to help if I can.
@@MuscleCarSolutions thanks! The more I rewatch your video, the more I learn.
Given that mine is a 4 barrel carb, Would you recommend an open gasket and an open phenolic spacer? Or should I be using a 4 barrel gasket and 4 barrel spacer? I’m thinking that mine has a vacuum problem from using the wrong style of gasket and spacer, Which may explain why I’m not getting vacuum advance on the dizzy too. I suspect that I may have accidentally restricted the vacuum ports into the carb. Newbie fail!
What intake are you using?
@@MuscleCarSolutions its a performer manifold on a rover v8. you might know it as a buick215 - im in the uk
Ah I see. What size carb are you running on that? Anything else done to the engine? Cam? Higher compression? Headers?

Take your time. Make sure it’s clean. Ask any questions you might have! Easy. You got this! 👍
All the internal screws are torx and all the external screws are flathead. The external screw that holds on the manual choke bracket is a little longer than the rest. Spraying the paper gaskets with WD40 helps them to come off easier next time you rebuild it.
Only on carbs made in 2001 and earlier on the hardware. The airhorn assembly hardware is all the same length. Assuming that’s what you meant with the manual choke cable bracket. The WD40 thing is a great tip. Though I rarely remember to use it on assembly. More so on the holleys where you see that benefit. Thankfully most kits have the non stick gaskets.
@@MuscleCarSolutions thanks. So the carb I’m doing now was made before 2001! Wow! And I agree about the Holley gaskets. They were always more prone to stick.
@@chucksgarage7165 if you want to know the exact day and the year it was built - czcams.com/video/Rwacvv3XvA4/video.html
Regarding your Edelbrock customer service claim - My kit was missing the accelerator pump plunger cup. I called Edelbrock and they wouldn't send me one - they simply told me it wasn't sold separately, and said I could go buy the 1467 assembly. Thanks Edelbrock. I couldn't return my kit because I had it sitting on the bench for a few months before starting my rebuild. True, I should have checked it. But Edelbrock wasn't much help to me. FYI.
Sorry to hear you had that experience. I’ve sent hundreds of people to them for parts that are missing or they lost and they’ve always taken care of it.
good job helped me a lot thanks
Awesome!
I have a 1997 Mariah boat with 5.7 marine Edelbrock 1409 I think.
It runs really good, but after I shut it off I always have to give it throttle. It smells rich after starting, and seems rich idling. It does idle ok. Just seems rich.
I’m getting ready to rebuild it tomorrow. Any ideas what I should look for?
I had one of those,I gave it to someone I didn't like
Do you have a video of from start to finish rebuilding a Edelbrock 1405 carburetor? Like taking it apart also
It’s what I have. When the 400 chev was dropped in this 1951 Chris-Craft Racing Runabout about 15 years ago this is what they used. It’s what I just inherited when I bought the boat recently. Just finished rebuilding it after watching your video. Question is what to do different with it now?
Ultimately the decision is yours but if it were my boat, I’d have a CG approved carburetor and fuel system. Here’s why. If you ever get into a situation where you break down on the water, have a fuel or oil spill, or worse yet the boat sinks and they do any investigation and find non approved equipment on those systems that can negatively affect water quality, they’ll hit you with fines that are more than whatever the boat is worth. I know a bunch of folks use street equipment on boats and get away with it but it’s a roll of the dice that I wouldn’t be willing to take. Look into what the regulations are where you plan on using it locally and coast guard laws and you’ll find the information you will need to know.
Yes I am aware of what you are referring to. However, I do not believe there are any CG rules related to modification of antique boats like this. I will review this question on the antique boat forums to see what is known about this issue. What I have done so far is to completely rebuild the fuel delivery system to standards better than required by CG on any boat. Back to my question. What needs to be done to make this carb work if I choose to use it? When I look at a marine Edelbrock like the 1409, I don’t see much difference. What am I missing?
Sorry. 1410
@@CaptTPT Theres plenty of difference. no vacuum ports on the marine carb. Port that’s required for fuel vent to go back to the engine in case of flooding. Corrosion resistant finish.
Ok. Excellent. That is very helpful. I appreciate your help with this.
Lmao.i just got doing one.look ya up to get some info.good veido thanx bub
Thanks for the detailed video helped me rebuild my first carburetor, I noticed my accelerator pump on my 1406 model was not correct I’m looking to replace it , would the edelbrock #1468 pump fit . Thank you
Hi was hoping if you idea o why a 1406 leaks from top of carb pushing out Lots of gas from step up piston metering rod area
What is your fuel pressure set to? Checked your floats yet? Needle and seats?
I was trying to tune the idle for a Chevy 350 and I had to turn it so that the bypass slot would have been exposed. Does that mean I need a large CFM carb? It is a 600 CFM carb on a mid built motor.
@Musclecarsolution just a fyi on the comment in your video that stated, Edelbrock didn’t have different nozzles available.
Edelbrock 1475 Accelerator Pump Nozzle Kit is available online for those that need it.
jusr got a 1405 from flee market hoping to convert truck to carb.
I put on the new Edelbrock 1906 or 9 carb.
Good video!
Thanks!
How come you didn’t adjust the float drop?
What about the float drop adjustment does that matter?
I bought my 1906 AVS2 used. It did not have that weighted valve. Sid they come with them? Also the PO went to a 7342 rod from the stock 7037 rod to lean it on the primary. Edelbrock Tech also advised leaning the secondary to .092 from stock .095.
I have a 4.8L engine
Your video cuts off at the end before you install the metering rods, is there a part 2? Let me know.
Forgot about that. No. YT died as I was wrapping up and it cut the last few minutes. I’ve got a number of assembly videos that you could fast forward to that point. Nothing is too model specific at that point. Sorry about the cut off!
Hey bud that counter wt bar is supposed to go under the rear venturies
The weighted air valve? Yes! Keep watching the video…..😂

What does ethanol in the fuel have to do with float levels?
Thank you for making this video, super helpful. Question, my 72 c10 has been sitting for 6 months and when I try to crank it I have fuel coming out of the metering rod covers. I have the same carb that is in this video. What would cause that and how would I fix it? Thank you.
I did a video on the four reasons why a car might flood. You’ll get a more detailed response in that video. Needles stuck open, too much fuel pressure, floats not set right/compromised, garbage in the system to name a few.
Guess I'm going to try it. No idea what im doing lol. I'm told the popping sound during acceleration is a jet issue or too rich or too lean mixture. Can adjustments be made before I dive into a rebuild?
Yes you can alter the rod/jet sizes as the tuning chart lays them out for your part number carburetor. Just follow the steps in how to read that in my video that addresses it and you’ll do just fine. It’s not complicated at all.
Great video. Thank you. I inherited an Edelbrock on a 400ci sbc set up in an old wooden boat. How will the vacuum work in this application?
The Edelbrock marine carburetors don’t have vacuum ports. Is it a street carb?
I suspect it is a street carb. How would I identify a street vs marine ?
@@CaptTPT part number is best. Finish is another. Google image search a 1410 and 1411. The 1410 is the marine carb and you can see the difference in the finish.
1407 (1874) 750 cfm performer series
750 CFM street carburetor made on the 187th day of either 2014or 2004. It’s not made to run on a boat.
wow when i pulled the squirter off there was no spring or ball
@@martinlager that’s not good! Glad you found that issue and can make corrections.
Nice video but you forgot to set float drop and i would of checked the 1.3 centimeter adjustment for opening rear throttle plates
Nothing forgotten. Drop has little relevance. Made a video on that topic as well.
Just wondering,do you have a video of replacing throttle shafts and springs/linkage? I took pics but still stuck, thanks in advance!
They are non-serviceable items. Edelbrock does not offer them for sale.
I mixed up the metering jets and very hard to tell which is which. Primaries are larger?
When I set my float bowls I made sure to have the 1/2” space under the full length of the bowl parallel to the top plate. The edelbrock manual details it this way and in the time up guide it measures the leading edge just like you did in your video. Should I be concerned with the way I set my floats?
The correct way is like I showed. What advantage do you think you’re achieving with he float parallel to the airhorn?
@@MuscleCarSolutions thanks. I was not looking for any type of advantage. Im used to mechanical things in general especially floats being level, flat, plumb, equidistant etc. when you look at the float lines that the fuel leaves on the outside of the bowls it’s definitely not flat or level to the carb. Anyway, going to make some final adjustments and re-install. Thanks for the quick feedback.
The check ball that goes on the weight.. Is it metal... Mine didn't have the ball or the Spring..
Yes it’s metal. Someone must have removed it. Put one back in.
Can you please explain why gas with ethanol would require a 1/2" float adjustment vs 7/16? I'm in CA with 10% ethanol. Also any other considerations for a 1906 AVS2?
Easy. Ethanol boils at 175 degrees or so at sea level. The boiling point does go up the higher you get in elevation, but is still relatively low. Carrying less fuel means there’s less to boil over into the engine and causing a flooding condition. Hard starting, etc.
@@MuscleCarSolutions Actually, the boiling point of alcohol goes down with altitude.
I rebuilt my Edelbrock 1407 and didn't notice that my 8 screws were actually 4 short and 4 long (like the ones at minute 56:20), Is there a specific placement/pattern for the 2 different sizes? I tried looking for a chart everywhere but had no luck .
I just rebuild my 1405 and I also forgot the weighted things. Lol... I'm done and put it back on the mustang. Anything I should do on the first start? Or just crank it u til it starts?
It’s not the first time I’ve forgotten them! lol It happens. Nope. Just check the fuel lines. Make sure you’ve got new filters in. Crank it up and start tuning!
I watched your video yesterday and made some change to my 1406. I had a dead spot at take off under load. I installed.395 jets and 70-37 metering rods. I have a slightly built 289. Now when I crank the engine, fuel spews up through the metering rods. What causes this?
I just did a video on flooding. You might check that one out, but the first question I always have is, what’s your fuel pressure set at?
@@MuscleCarSolutions Fuel pressure is 4 lbs. Thank you for the reply! You're videos are very informative.
Friend sorry I didn't get your name but was going to ask I was working on my edelbrock carb and a small metal ball and a peace copper fell out have no idea where they come from ,do you have a minute to explain?
Why would I be getting excessive gas flowing out of my jets
Don’t know. Jets feed the boosters. Is that where you’re visually seeing fuel? Or you’re just running rich and trying to correct it?
Do you typically see the same scenario in these carbs when you rebuild them?
@@MuscleCarSolutions If there are signs that ethanol has deteriorated the coating at the bottom of the fuel bowl, do you just get rid of them? I have a 1405 and the bottom of the fuel bowl no longer has the same sheen after cleaning that the rest of the carb has. Thanks for your videos!
Call Edelbrock? Yea right you"ll be on hold for a week.
mmm you forgot to install thos baffles
What do you do is the gas has already started corroding the aluminum in the bowls?
There isn’t much you can do really. Get more diligent with draining the fuel from the carb if the car is going to sit for more than a week or two at a time. Use the Driven carb defender can help continue to push the water and crap through the system. Once it starts though, it’s only going to get worse. Doesn’t matter what brand of carb. Ethanol kills them all if not looked after.
@@MuscleCarSolutions I bought it used and realized it needs a rebuild. Opened it and saw the corrosion. Oh well, it's a temporary carb but I plan to eventually sell it and dont want to sell junk. I'll try the carb defender. Thanks!
@@curtthompson2787 not much can be done with them at that point. Just baby them and get a few more miles out of it!

Bone Head electric after watching some more of your videos I think there is binding in the choke linkage because if I operate it by hand it seems to be a kinda difficult then it seems to break loose
Wondering about the way the air control weighted thing goes in there, it seems it only goes in there 2 ways one all the way closed or other shut but open part way. Another question this carb was really corroded and I only found a check ball in it , but it might have gotten lost. This is a carb 900 something s , and on a boat motor 4.3 or 4.5 sorry but still , do I need a weight in there in accelerator jets,?
Would that kit work on a 1406?
Will what kit work? The rebuild kit? Yes. There’s only one kit for all the Edelbrock AVS carbs.
