For me it's the the way the dude at the newspaper company is given freedom to write about anything he wants then as he turns and sees rorschachs journal then rorschachs line followed by the ending music playing
I hate to be that guy who brings up the comic instead of taking the film for what it is, but I really wish they included the mention that Rorschach's penmanship is so bad that, in the comic, the police can't read his journal after he was arrested. It added a but more ambiguity as to whether the journal would be printed, or if the guy would see Rorschach's chicken scratch and ditch it for the next piece on the stack.
I agree, and in the comic, the journal was thrown into a "later" bin with other junk paperwork, making us guess as to whether or not it was ever published.
I believe, because of the characterization we get from the guy at the end, he could read it. I have shitty handwriting, which makes reading other shitty handwriting easy, however really nice cursive is like fucking chicken scratch to me. All depends on you point of reference.
The first song of the movie is Bob Dillan's The Time They Are a Changin'. The last song is My Chemical Romance's Desolation Row, which is a hard rock cover of Bob Dillan's original song. I think it perfectly represents how the times have changed indeed by the end of the film.
Even if the world destroys itself when/if Ozymandia's plot is discovered...people should know the truth. Let humanity find its own way, and face the consequences, not be manipulated into a false future by a lie. Never compromise, even in the face of Armageddon.
+Heinz Guderian Its really hard to tell to accept the lie if you now it or just to tell the truth. Ozy was not completly wrong. He choose one of many options to bring peace to the world. The Problem is that if the plan really works, the question is for how long? No one can tell if the peace really stays this way or not a new heretic rises and human fall back into their own nature of war and grief. I would accept the lie if I would 100% know its working for ever. But if there is really just 1% thats off the charts I would always go with the truth.
@@PhillipRottingham In the novel it only destroyed buildings right where the monster landed. It's referred to as "Hiroshima with buildings" in the novel.
Realistically it would take 50 to 70 years to rebuild a destroyed city but this is set in an alternate universe where superheros exist so the technology to help repair cities like that somehow exists
Well it's actually ambiguous if the journal ever blew up, since the writer of it was charged with homicide and it was publicized by a far right newspaper
Rorschach had his endgame already planned out, so well that even the smartest man alive didn't see it coming. Rorschach was more than aware of how dangerous Vieght would be, the distinct likelihood was that he was going to die. In fact, it was all but certain to him. This is why he firstly mailed the journal (he'd never be using it again), why he refused warmer clothing (he'd die from something quicker than hypothermia), why he attempted to suckerpunch Vieght, knowing it wouldn't work (suicide play) & why he insisted Dr. Manhatten finish it (last honest hero). I suspect Rorschach knew his crime-fighting days were drawing to a close due to several factors, namely his aging years, a lack of any intelligence network other than his own investigations, a suspected "mask killer" & a rapidly shifting public narrative that made him the bad guy. Possibly the reason he finally apologises to Dan for years of being an uncooperative, sociopathic hard-line douchbag when they were partners. He was getting his affairs in order.
Rorschach truly is a wonderful yet broken man. He seeks peace and justice but one that isn't achieved in vain. Yet the very idea itself is quite impossible to attain.
Later: Adrian Veidt watches TV´s: Veidt: What?!NO!NO!! My World peace!! Veidt: All my work..... Manhattan watches from the distance: Not my problem anymore.
"Ronald Reagan says he's running for president in '88..." Man, they blew that one. In the original book, we see mention of "RR" running for office, before finding out it's actually Robert Redford. The joke was supposed to be that in the Watchmen universe, the right-wing editor "obviously" wouldn't want a "cowboy actor" in the White House, while in our world he would presumably be on board with the idea, so long as it was the conservative Reagan rather than the liberal Redford. His outrage at Reagan's run makes no sense, unless I missed a scene in the movie where the presence of superheroes somehow turned Reagan into a Democrat.
So.....you think that tiny insignificant part is worth bitching about? See this is why movies like this get no attention. You watch a masterpiece of a movie and focus on a one second clip about stupid real life bullshit politics. Way to miss the point entirely.
I don't care what everyone says, this movie was perfect . From the begining with the sound of silence to the ending where rorshach makes justice, the world might be nuked, but rorshach made true justice no mater the consequences! #Rorshachalwayswins
+The Game Code Not really, think about everything that Rorschach wrote down. The dude was pretty far off on what Ozy's true plan. Assuming that Seymour went through and published the journal, the only thing they can get from it is that he killed some old and possibly that he was the Comedian . Which is bad for Veidt but looking at Eddie, he was an ass and was no shining pinnacle of humanity. On top that, Rorschach is known that he's clinically insane and on top of the Veidt has lots of money so that means very good lawyers. So for better or for worse, Rorschach doesn't have too much evidence. The only other people that can kill Veidt on his bullshit are dead,on the run or off playing God.
+marvel672 I disagree. If there's anyone who knows about just how smart Adrian really is (and there are) they will find it pretty fucking obvious. And from reading Rorschach's words, people will see he's not a deranged nut that the public makes him out to be. The Journal is the Evidence. As for lawyers, that's ridiculous! There's no lawyer that would convince the world to let go on the mass murder of millions. There may still be people who can stop him. The whole point is whether the Journal is used or not. This marks the first time where a man makes a choice over what is best for humanity, not the Watchmen.
for me this is an absolute win, - not only Rorshach death were not in vain, but also the dude in the green shirt will write the truth about ozymandias, and the world go wild but still live in peace since it has been so long that pretty much no one give a damn but still intrigue by the story, great movie, so ahead of it time ( in fact it was so ahead of it time, the ending told you so )
Snyder's Journal. November 13th, 2017. Wonder Woman was released earlier this year, with Aquaman set to follow. This studio's afraid of me. I've seen its true vision. To them, movies are extended advertisements. created to peddle merchandise with no regard for true DC fans. The theaters are full of audiences worldwide. And when the credits roll and the critics descend. When social media is overflown with with critique from both amateur and professionals. And when more and more petitions are signed worldwide, and all the fans demand it. When WB has no choice, but to deliver the film DC fans deserve. All the WB studio executives will look up and shout "Save us!" and I'll whisper "No."
Except Snyder is a trash author that can't write to save his ass and is only good when he sticks to the source material because of his technical skills. The guy made Superman watch quietly while his dad dies to save a dog to save his secret identity that he gives two fucks about in every single scene before and after his death. And wrote a ridiculous pseudo metaphorical BS movie about a girl wrongfully convicted in a mental institution and abused that becomes Neo in her head to save other girls. And don't even get me started on BvS and the Martha memes, Batman becoming a killer out of nowhere and having a bogus Lex Luthor inspired by a subpar graphic novel spinoff that fits the story like a pair of shoes to a fish.
Rorschach's Journal: November 17th, 2019. A 55-year-old individual from Hubei province in China died of a new virus. And the Chinese government knows why
The genius of this ending is how it's both a moment where you find solace knowing Rorschach beat Adrian after all and exposed the truth, but it also makes you think "oh f*ck, is everything about to go back to shit or worse when the news gets out?" One of the best endings to a film this century (yeah I said it) and possibly the best ending to a superhero film ever.
This is what happens when you underestimate the crazy ones. If Adrian had just taken Rorschach a bit more seriously, his plans wouldn't have all been for nothing. In a way, Rorschach proved HE was the smartest man on the planet.
For a decent film, I find that ending dialoge the best one ever heard as a finisher. The only thing they succeded with in that film was Rorschach and the music.
Ross the Boss Rorschach's Journal: November 2nd, 2016. It was the 31st Anniversary remembering the death of Walter Kovacs a.k.a. Rorschach. May god rest his soul. Rest In Peace, Rorschach. It's been an honor working for you, Walter Kovacs. Your sacrifice will not be in vain.
Even an adaptation that's only 1/5th as good as the original Watchmen is better than a lot of other movies. As it is, most of the changes they made were things that simply made it better-suited to cinema than the straight comic, hence why it can feel unfaithful but still entertaining. That's not to say the straight comic COULDN'T work as a movie (case in point: the motion comic), but the film took a work that was firmly comic in structure, and altered it so it could still work as a movie.
Rorschach is the real hero here. The final scene, with the sky of NY, half clouded, half cleared, represents the equilibrium which humanity should struggle to maintain between good and evil.

I hate to be that guy who brings up the comic instead of taking the film for what it is, but I really wish they included the mention that Rorschach's penmanship is so bad that, in the comic, the police can't read his journal after he was arrested. It added a but more ambiguity as to whether the journal would be printed, or if the guy would see Rorschach's chicken scratch and ditch it for the next piece on the stack.
take it to pharmacist... they know how to handle those chicken penmanship...
Funny that policemen can't read bad handwriting.
Erin Lia that is so true. Doctors have some of the worst handwriting.

@@jonathanpilcher337 Why do you keep repeating this under random comment strings?
Rorschach would be proud of that dude in the shirt.
Nailed it
Rorschach truly is a wonderful yet broken man. He seeks peace and justice but one that isn't achieved in vain. Yet the very idea itself is quite impossible to attain.
It’s better to make someone sad with the truth than happy with a lie.

One of my favorite endings
This ending is very psychological because it’s as if we’re given the choice. We think about what we would do in this situation
"Ronald Reagan says he's running for president in '88..."
Man, they blew that one.
You're right, I too was upset that this was changed.
So.....you think that tiny insignificant part is worth bitching about? See this is why movies like this get no attention. You watch a masterpiece of a movie and focus on a one second clip about stupid real life bullshit politics. Way to miss the point entirely.
Or maybe the idea of a shiny, winking actor doing the most serious job in the country was silly to him. You are WAAAAAAY overthinking it.
Plus, Reagan would've been 77 at the time.
Reagan was originally a democrat before 1962, it's possible that Nixon getting re-elected over and over made him a democrat again.
Check and mate
This ending gave me goosebumps
0:50 it was Robert Redford in the comics which was clever since Redford played Bob Woodward in all the president's men
Also it would make much more sense that a far right newspaper would be annoyed by a liberal celebrity running for president.

+julian seguin the journal is evidence for what? the comedian's killer?
The Ultimate Cut of this movie is easily a Masterpiece, Period.

Rorschach's Journal: November 13, 2015. Superman died today, who will save us now?

And a diary is all it took for the world to end.
