  • Come along for our POV drive and review of a 2024 Honda CR-V all wheel drive base model LX. All the attention is on the excellent hybrid but the tried and true 1.5 turbo with a CVT is back for the 6th gen. The CR-V returns to its roots with a fun and boxy persona and sheds the too serious vibe of the 5th gen. We have binaural mics going so be sure to put on your headphones. Did the 6th gen CR-V do enough to knock off the Toyota RAV4?

    A spare tire is a true safety issue and can sometimes be a life/death situation depending on where one is driving. I was driving in Chicago at 1:00 AM (brutal winter) on the expressway from picking up a relative (from the airport) and hit a pothole which destroyed the tire). Having a spare meant a quick 15 minute change instead of hours waiting for a tow truck (the rim was damaged).

      Spare tires for the win! Thanks for sharing.

      Funny, been driving for over 40 years and never once had a blow out or any roadside tire change emergency. I have picked up nails, but they're slow leakers that allowed me to get the tire repaired without needing a spare. A car with no spare doesn't concern me at all.

    @2:09. The reason there is no flat floor is because Honda decided instead of a lowered seat (knees-up), the seating is raised do you have great thigh support and stadium-style seating. I think they made the best choice.

    Most vids out there are for the hybrid. Spent time in the regular old 1.5 turbo gas LX. The LX is truly a base model and sure it helps provide Honda cars to sell while there is still a chip shortage. The hybrid does drive better and will eventually recoup the price difference in gas savings, especially if you rack up alot of stop and go yearly miles.

    • @ztekz
      @ztekz Před 4 měsíci +1

      Not only will you recoup the cost on the fuel savings over time, also the resale value as hybrids are in high demand and will only continue to do so during transition to EVs in future

    Got the2024 Lx. Has all i need & nothing i dont want. My only issue is the key fob does not give you options of only opening the drivers door in the " settings". All doors open when you unlock. Not safe for a single person. Also, HATE stop/start feature that you have to turn off EVERY time you start the car.
    Getting 34+Mpg just around town, so happy with that. So far, in the South, no oil dilution issues.
    Ride is smooth, quiet , comfy & great visibility. I think seats are WAY more comfortable than the civic or accord or even the HR-V. As to price for entry level, its fair. I even got DISCOUNT off MSRP ! No mark up's at dealer. So, im satisfied with this for my needs. With the government butting in telling the manufacturers what to do, I think Honda did a pretty good job.😊

      @BeyondTheTestDrive  Před 4 měsíci

      Congrats and thanks for sharing. Should provide many years of reliable and enjoyable operation. Are you sure there is no setting in the menus to just unlock driver’s door? Worth double checking as I also consider that a safety issue. Thanks for watching and enjoy your CR-V.

      @BeyondTheTestDrive oh yes, I'm VERY sure. Eventually to dealer & they too said was in the settings. But when they tried it, they saw that option was NOT there. They tried another Lx on the lot, same thing. But the civic & accord had that option. So, bad job on Hondas part. Saw another person on line saying same thing.

    There has to be a car wash mode in 2024 CR-V Hybrids for automated car washes. Had a nightmarish experience as the car went totally crazy, tried to brake, engaged parking brake & what not. Finally the car had to be turned off, was put in accessories mode and Neutral to finish the wash. Still the parking sensors kept on beeping like crazy. Am I missing something? What is the proper way to do this?

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  Před 11 měsíci +1

      🤔. Yes, you should be able to disable the parking sensors somewhere. I don’t own one but I am sure it’s in the menus somewhere. Maybe someone else can chime in who does own a Honda product.

    I hear mechanics saying the hybrid set-up is more trouble free than the turbo-4, so I've been leaning toward the hybrid with its nearly 30-percent increase in fuel economy and more pep in city driving. But...the awful intake vents integrated into the front end are so awful. Is there a way to option those out? The non-hybrid front-end design looks so much better.

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  Před rokem +4

      Yea, the front end of the hybrid is a mystery. What was Honda thinking? No real way to option them out. I would have to black them out immediately, which is easy to do. They would stick out a little less. Agree I think the hybrid is the way to go, nice low down grunt. I was really impressed with the hybrid system in the Accord. But I do think if you do a lot of highway driving I think the 1.5 is fine. I don’t think it’s as bullet proof as Honda’s engines of the past but it’s been out for over six years so I think Honda is getting it pretty sorted. Thanks for commenting and happy motoring!

      What about not having spare tired and any tools on the car to replace a tire and also the battery after 100k has to be replaced on your pocket is this rentable? Yes you save on gas but at the end you spend all that saving changing the battery also hybrid is not so old to see if the battery really works the 100K milles abu the mechanic maintenance? Is more expensive that regular one? Or any mechanic can work on hybrid cars? Im between turbo gas and hybrid 😭 i feel the gas version is so poorly made and hybrid obviously is the best forcing people to get it but is really safe to finance a hybrid car?

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  Před rokem +1

      @@evercruz4140 Toyota has done very well with long term battery performance. And Honda has been doing hybrids for a while also. So I would not worry about long term hybrid reliability. Not having a spare is a little bit of a pain but not that uncommon these days. And the gas 1.5 has been around so it’s well sorted for long term reliability. I would get what works for you and whichever you like to drive. Another hybrid savings is brakes. They last along time on hybrids.

      @@josepharmato8032 I've been trying to get past that design element. I know, it's superficial, given all that is good inside the car. Test drove the non-hybrid a week ago. I hope the hybrid has better seat construction. The seat bolsters are prominent, but the foam underneath is super-soft. Over the lifetime of the car, that foam will disintegrate as you get in and and out of the car. Quickly or slowly, I don't know, but it will happen. It happened on my previous CR-V after 4 or 5 years.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, aren't turbos only good for passing lanes...few seconds useful? Like in California I-5 Southbound Grapevine heading into Los Angels going up on an incline for maybe 20-30 minutes, wouldn't the turbo on this car gets overused/shortenes it's longevity for that period of high-revving? I'm worried if I get one of these little 1.5L turbos and have difficulties on any long inclines. My son currently goes in one of them UCs, so I go there at least twice a year for the next 3 (or) more years. Right now, still contemplating/waiting for the 2025 Civic hybrid coming from europe and hoping it will still have the famous K20 engine instead of their 1.5L turbos.

    • @BeyondTheTestDrive
      @BeyondTheTestDrive  Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks for watching and for the question. Modern turbos have come along way and now show up in nearly all manufacturers small four cylinders. They are now tuned to provide low levels of boost at low rpm’s giving better torque over the entire rev range. So the turbo is active and spinning quite fast all the time. In the past, turbos could only provide boost when really needed, hard acceleration, passing, and suffered turbo lag and surge. Fun but not daily driving practical. Plus for hilly and highway drives hybrids starts falling off as far as gas mileage, whereas these small displacement turbos usually shine and are quite efficient. So bottom line I would not let the turbo be a concern. Turbos do require diligent and higher frequency oil changes. Honda’s 1.5 has been out for nearly 8 or so years. I would not call it as potentially long term reliable as their famous K24s, etc. but still pretty good. The new civic hybrid should be pretty good. But it may drone quite a bit on steep long inclines. Keep in touch and happy motoring.

    I had put a deposit for 2023 crv hybrid sport touring because it looks amazing but I cancelled it because even the top trim doesn't have fog lights and a spare tyre and these features are lifesavers for me because I have impaired vision and mostly drive in rural dark streets without street lights. Very disappointed. I even had a 2017 pilot with a lane watch camera. I'm so disappointed that they got rid of that camera too. Blind spot monitors can't make up for this camera. Honda raised the price so much but took Away some very important features. Very disappointed.
    So I ended up buying the 2023 toyota rav4 hybrid.

      @amna6024 Před 11 měsíci

      I tried the Rav4 but the interior felt so outdated to me plus bumpy and all the toyota dealers were adding 5k markups while Honda dealers were adding none. From the choices I think the base sport hybrid is the best value of the 3 crv hybrid trims. I agree the price point for the touring is not a good value at all for what you get. at that point you can get wayy more features with other cars. might as well put in a little more and get a luxury vehicle.

    I would like to see Honda offer the hybrid in the EX and up not everyone wants everything blacked out and more black in the interior. Personally I would prefer EXL with a Hybrid and the baggie interior. Plus the rims are smaller on EXL translating to better ride. It doesn't make sense to me from a marketing standpoint to not offer the hybrid on all the trims other than the base. Honda states they estimate most of their sales will be hybrids why not offer them in most of their trims so more people can afford them. Just saying... 😒

    I think the base non hybrid trims with the silver rims look so bland and granny-like. I don't get why Honda doesn't try to add a little pizzaz to their base models, there must be a way to do it without a huge cost. The hybrid is way more appealing bc it looks more sleek with its rims and less like a granny car. I had been looking to upgrade my Accord Sport to an SUV for a few years (I wanted awd). I only wanted to buy another Honda and no other brand. I never liked the previous gen CRVs bc they looked like marshmallows on wheels...however this new gen looks so good!!
