This week at the château, Terry finally gets to put the floor back down in the third floor bathroom, let him start work insulating the room. Ash has to fill in the fireplace with some of the missing bricks in the château dining room, and has a little help from Jonathan.
All the family come to the rescue to help get the large bath up the stairs and into the new bathroom.
Plus, we discover some hidden gems from the châteaux history which we can treasure 🥰
And finally, Jonathan has a massive thank you to say to a wonderful follower of the chateau In tbe end of show chat.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

How sweet was Jonathan sharpening his new pencil? He was being so careful to contain the pencil shavings so he didn't make a mess. These little insights into his thought processes show so much about the love, attention and care he is being brought up with. Lovely!

chateau. My husband and I have been following your work at the chateau and we’re so impressed by the dedication to getting things done. All of you work so hard and we know what that’s like. We too dedicate much of our free time to restoring our 100+ year old home in Pennsylvania , USA. We’re still back by about 1year from present in your posts. The episode signing the flashing for the roof top. We watch a few episodes each time . Eventually we will get to 2024. 😊

Boy Ash that butterfly or moth I'm not sure which that was on your finger when you were working in the fireplace, was the most incredible butterfly I've ever seen. Jonathan is going to be a tradesman before he leaves school. He will be prepared for life with all his new skills he is learning. You are all so wonderful and resourceful, the Chateau will be a masterpiece of love when she is finished.

Wow, great finds in this video. Please be careful handling the wallpaper, it looks like it might be the very toxic Paris Green shade, made popular by the Empress Eugenie in 1864. It also became the rage in Victorian England and was responsible for many deaths. You may want to do some research on old finishes and materials so that you can take appropriate Health and Safety measures in your work at the chateau.
I'm so relieved someone mentioned the risk that vibrant green wallpaper of that era poses. Such vibrancy in the Scheele's Green was achieved by incorporating arsenic into paints and dyes - and also poses a significant risk to pets as well as humans. The arsenic leeches from whatever it was used on, becomes airborne, is easily inhaled, etc. as it intermingles with household dust. It also creates a toxic gas in damp rooms. To be on the safe side, it should be considered hazardous material: one should wear a particle mask, the paper should only be handled with latex gloves, and any room it's discovered in carefully cleaned after removal.
Would be great to make a scrapbook of all the things you find, or photos of them saying which room they were found in and approximate age etc. nice to look back on it in years to come

I am surprised you haven't put insulation under the floor boards. Wouldn't insulation help both the rooms above and below? Great job though

You discovered a hibernating Peacock butterfly. Previously, these butterflies were seen in large herds and could be found almost anywhere but now are becoming rare due to a loss of habitats. When viewed upside down the butterfly resembles a bird beak and an owl. I think this is a sign that receiving those peacocks from Chateau Lalande is meant to be.
Gosh even by Canadian winter standards your Chateau looks cold with all the steam coming off your cups of tea/coffee.

The reason why your channel is my favorite is because your family has incredible skills and your enthusiasm for this project is amazing.
I have enjoyed each of the episodes, and a big part of that is listening to you all talk about the challenges as you go. It's encouraging because it's so relatable. Loved the dating chronicles, and the original bits of wallpaper.
Please be cautious when renovating because old paints and wallpaper colours were sometimes made using poisons. Many colours especially greens contained arsenic.
You are a fantastic couple you work so well together and so loving
It's always a pleasure to see young people's delight getting presents. I stand in amazement with your beautiful family. The chateau is second place to building your family, but you do get a beautiful chateau in the deal. Maybe that sounds a little crazy, but the way you work together inspires me.

The green original wallpaper is fabulous…. Fireplace stunning. I’m so jealous…. Is it a lot of work to do this work, unquestionably. BUT when your finished, it’s going to be a show stopper. It helps that you have vision AND good taste.

I hope you're keeping an electronic journal/scrapbook of everything you find and everything you do to the Chateau. Evernote would be a great tool to create such a record, room by room. pop in pictures, keep a journal for each room, add history as you discover it, etc. You can always have such an archive printed later on to acid-free paper and bound for posterity.

A lot of places do reproduction wallpaper. I’d definitely look in to recreating that, if your going for period. Great find! Love all the bits of history. I’d be tempted to put the bits of new history in ziplock bags to preserve them. Gotta put a newspaper 🗞️ in. I really love how Jonathan is involved and you don’t shove him off. He’s gonna be a Jack of all trades in the years to come. Truly love the family dynamic here. Your doing great!
