As a child growing up in Michigan during the 1960-70’s that rivalry/hatred of Ohio State University football and Woody Hayes their coach was (still is) real.
I remember that jerk grabbing a yard marker & kneecapping a MSU player running the sideline with the ball.
( At least I think I remember that) Heh....Heh
I'm an Ohioian and have spent time in Michigan, both business and pleasure. Up North is one of the most scenic areas east of the Mississippi.
I'm from Michigan and had a lot of good times in Ohio !
The UP for Toledo?!? I'd say that was a pretty fair deal! GO BLUE!!!!
Ohio won, the upper peninsula was British ground when it was given to Michigan, so Ohio lost nothing and gained something
I was told that the only casuality of the Ohio-Mich "war" was a mule. This is the reason behind the mascot of Bedford Schools in Lambertville / Temperance MI. is a "kicking mule". Also, found it amusing that the only way to the lost pensinsula is a trip thru Toledo.
Yes that's right the sheriff was a mule
Thanks you two!! That is some very cool information!! GO BLUE!! J & C
Just found your channel Im 38 and grew up in the Detroit Michigan and I love hearing about these old tales.
We visited the Lost Peninsula in March. There is a really great restaurant there!
Thanks again for a very well presented history lesson!
wow , the local history over there is very intesting , Thanks for showing us some of it .
Love Your History lessons ..just long enough to keep you interest going ,I do like learning about every thing you two put together for our pleasure ...Thanks Can't wait to see what is next ..!... where do you get your Ideas for a Video ..?
They come from everywhere. Subscribers, research leads to other ideas, travel finds a lot, talking with others. A curiosity of the world helps a lot.
The auto rv gave me a chuckle!
It's love/hate. Both states have really cool spots. Just the Buckeyes can always go right ahead and SUCK IT.
Both states are great places to live, apart from the politics. I live in Toledo, was born in Michigan, went to Ohio State. lol Thanks for the great content!
You 2 are an absolute astounding couple, that find the COOLEST stuff.
Thanks! We're just a couple of curious troublemakers.
This is one of my favorite bits of Michigan history. And even I learned some things from this. But I still don't hate our neighbors to the south. We clearly won when we gained the UP 😊
Looking forward to the related videos!
I traveled to mid Ohio to see the eclipse and it was way better than I expected. Hope you both had a good view of it!
We had a great view. And same. . . it was way better than I expected.
Ohio actually won, the UP was actually British territory when given to Michigan, so Ohio actually lost nothing and gained something, while Michigan lost 1 and gained 1
Great video. If only they taught history in public schools.
Great Job in teaching us the origins in History. This has been very interesting to me.
Very interesting video!!! Keep the history videos coming.
That is amazing.
I grew up in the "Toledo strip." North - South roads don't match at the formerly disputed state boundries. Sometimes that got me a little lost when I first got my driver's license ... having to jog over to continue north or south.
It should be noted that Michigan won the Toledo war. Ohio got Toledo. 🤣🤣🤣
Lol
😂😂 I remember as a kid I moved from Detroit to Toledo then back to Detroit.
That place was terrible! At the time in the 90s it was the hiv/aids capital of America, Preteen pregnancies we high, and till this day I never met dumber people in my life! I was suppose to get “beat up” but this teen who kept failing school after school but as we were about to fight his OWN cousin beat him because he stole 5 dollars from them.
I was so happy to leave that place
lol
The only loser of the Toledo war was Wisconsin. It's like the big ten conference. Lol
@@ianbryant9 how is Toledo any worse than Detroit? 😂 both overrunning with an overpopulated prideful filled people. The east is is ruined. Or really any big city these days
As a michigander growing up I never knew of any dispute other than the OSU UofM football game each fall. We go to Ohio alot, there are many attractions there, we spend a lot of time in Michigan as well, but if youve ever been to our beautiful UP you know we got the better deal in the land swap.
Appreciate the history!
well that tease of the eclipse should be shared!
My late college advisor at U of M-Flint had a great lecture about this in his Michigan History classes. He was always funny but he was tough too. I miss him. I still talk about it. My best friend took his classes and he was her advisor too. Good stuff. Thanks!
Almost forgot, the ladies loved the “Boy Governor” Stevens T Mason because he was young and hot, not just a hothead.
If MI got their way, South Bend ,IN would also be in MI.
#GoBlue
Awesome
Great video... You should do a video on Cranbrook campus
FANTASITC
Meanwhile, Wisconsin is like, WTF?
My husband, who grew up in Wisconsin, still resents this. (Good naturedly, but he does fully support WI reclaiming the UP.)
@@katherinec2759 Tell him to lay off the cheddar.😉
A large portion of people in the UP would prefer to be part of Wisconsin
@@leveljoe Yeah, but they should get over that.
Where the heck is Wisconsin?
More videos to come....I can't wait! And don't worry...Lansing still doesn't want us...unless there's something to take. Like Iron or Copper...or......
Perhaps your viewers might enjoy a video about Chief Tonquish and his conflict with the settlers in Western Wayne County MI - de WB8YMV
8:19 Correction: Michiganders
Very cool stuff! Interested to watch some more videos
"Saturday night in Toldeo, Ohio is like being nowhere at all...."
"...I spent a week there one night."
Love it thanks for the work!
Fort Meigs at the foot of the rapids, across from my home town. I was associated with the local historical society, and thought I heard it all. Well done.
The guy that has surveyed for us for a number of years is fascinated with the GreenvilleTreaty. You ought to do a story about that as well. It’s the measure that all land is surveyed off of in this part of Ohio.
YES!!!
Yup, we got the UP and Ohio got a swamp! Serves them right!
I agree. Also, I don’t think it can be a proper swamp without Gator.
Another great story.
I'm from mid Michigan now live in Toledo . Very Interesting video.. Thank you
How fascinating 🤔
Yooo I’m still waiting for those videos! I want to know more about the iron and copper deposits
Thing one and two Stickney... smh
Love It! Keep your videos coming.
Thank you! Will do!
As I was celebrating my kiddo’s acceptance to U of M, I bought a few college shirts. As I was packing for us to go to Ohio I chuckled to myself for even considering packing those shirts. I’m glad I didn’t. 😂
My wife's from Toledo, but she's been here in Michigan since we got married over 40 years ago. We've talked about the Michigan-Ohio- Toledo dispute. She assures me that Michigan is better off with Toledo in Ohio. Now if we could just give Detroit to Ohio, or Canada, we'd be a REALLY great state! 😁😂🤣😆
As a Michigander who has explored much of the upper peninsula and has also driven through Northwest Ohio, I can say with 100% certainty that we got the better end of this bargain.
The only good thing to come from Ohio is the Jeep 😂 Another great video RV! Hello from Pewamo 😊
The story I was told as a boy growing up in Michigan goes, the early leaders of Michigan were trying to get rid of Toledo. At first they planed to tell Toledo that they were too good and should be their own state. After a lot of laughing, they all admitted that nobody would ever believe it. So a two phase plan was devised to unload the strip of unwanted land. It would involve the state of Ohio. First was the easy part. Make Ohio believe that Toledo was worth fighting for. Then the hard part was letting Ohio win.......😅😅😅
black swamp was north of the maumee also

Michigan and Ohio went to war and Wisconsin lost!
i told people about this and they said i was lying literally made a presentation and my teacher said it was made up almost failed 7nth grade over this war had to go to the school municipal building and file a grievance.
#mybrotheriscoolertanyours ‘cause #mysisterinlawiscoolerthanyours, and #talentedtoo
So when are you going to start doing you tube field trips?
Why do people in the Grand Rapids?Howland area refer to them as west michigan when actually they're central michigan west michigan is the west side of the upper peninsula
Hey Ohio...How bout them Wolverines!!!
What's with the badger(a badger!) for U of M in the OSU/UofM graphic? Shocking.
😂 I never noticed that when I took the graphic from a GVSU post. Figures. . . clearly a badger.
They didn't make because they were on different timezones
8:15 - What's a "Michiganian"? 🤔
like #600!
Michiganians? I’m a Michigander! 😂
Totally different story that I heard about this but who knows 🤷 Probably those who were actually.
If Toledo was in Michigan, it would be be the SECOND largest city in that state. In ohio, we are the red headed stepchild 😢. As a Toledoan, I love "da Yoop". Go Blue! Down with those strong arm ohioans!😂
Interesting. I would have thought Grand Rapids was larger - so I had to check. Toledo "City Limits" is larger than Grand Rapids "City Limits", however, if you compare the "Metro Areas" - Grand Rapids would still be the second largest city in Michigan.
The Grand Rapids metro area has a population of 1,087,592, while the Toledo metro area has a population of 646,604 (according to Wikipedia). GR - 11th, Toledo - 18th for Midwestern Metro Areas.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Midwestern_metropolitan_areas
Interestingly - I also read from Google's generative AI source, that Grand Rapids has a much higher crime rate. Which I highly doubt but unfortunately I must get back to work so I'll just end with that. But, maybe Toledo has much less crime. 😂
You said "George Lucas" was the governor of Ohio, It's Robert Lucas
I did - my mistake. Good catch.
I have always had a deep hatred for Ohio
Well the conflict continues in spirit. The Game is a pseudo holiday for me. Nothing makes me happier than Michigan beating Ohio State in College Football. Granted, I may talk trash about Ohio, but I've never had a bad time there. Plus, without them, the best game in football doesn't exist.
UM vs OSU
Ohio, home of the Ohio State football team, three time losers to Michigan. Rumor is,the third beating Michigan gave Ohio State made the players and coaches impotent and not just on the field. 🤣
Michiganders.
Hearing Michiganders being called "Michiganians" sounds rather strange.
Do you really think any players on Michigan?Or ohio state even know that this war exist did and nobody and I mean nobody outside of these two states cares about that rivalry and needs to be talked about
F Ohio!!
GO BLUE, OHIO STINKS. LOL!
F ohio and their speed limits...
