Have a small piece of advice. Where you ran the #12 romex wire into the electrical box, you should have installed a romex clamp. The come threaded 1/2" with a nut, and a two screw clamp on the other end to hold the wire. Cost is 75 cents. This will keep the romex wire from rubbing on the edge of the box and causing a short. Nice job on the whole lift, looked like fun.
Thank you. I used those on my sun panel didn’t even think about it using one here! Good tip thanks for watching
Looks great. A good reason to add another electrical box to utilize the supplied pigtail is that you can add a 120V outlet on the side of the lift by using a duplex box.
Excellent idea haven’t thought about that! Thanks
Congratulations on the shop and the lift! It's a great feeling.
Thank you!
Excellent how to video. Thanks for putting it together. Enjoy the new lift. Awesome car.
Thanks so much, I’m glad you like the car It’s a favorite.
What a great install video! I just purchased a slightly used 2 post from a friends shop. I'm wanting to get it installed this week and all my buddies are too busy to come help me. This gives me the confidence to tackle it myself! I don't have a tractor that nice but I do have an older ford 3600 with a crappy loader but I think it will do the job. I bought 3 wire plug ground wiring because I also plan to use that extra wire as a neutral wire to install a 110 outlet box on the side of my lift for running power tools.
i love those 2 post hoits, they so great to work with.
Yes I love mine
Great job and information. I fixen to purchase and this was helpful. Thanks
great install
Heres another tip.
As if you were asking.ha!
Tie off the post.
Probably has large base.
But if it tips over/its over.
We lost a guy at Lockheed once.turned his back and standing steel came down on him.
He never knew what hit him.
looks awesome man, great job.
Thank you! Loving it so far
I love the color on that Firebird!
Thanks, so do I
Thanks mate, I just got one off these given to me, and it doesn’t have any instructions for the installation, this is really helpful 👍
Went up quick, good job plus you have that back saving tractor. Now we get to see some car work done. You can always rent an rotary hammer drill. That’s what I’ve done before until I found out my friend had one. He had no idea what it was.
Yes sir thank you. Excited for projects to come.
Nice! I am looking to build something similar in way of a garage and to put my old pontiacs in. I need a lift for my 70 GTO and 50 Streamliner. Thanks for all the informative Videos.
I could see the excitement in your face!
it was pretty excited lol.
Nice work!!
Thank you
Wonderful
Excellent video! I also have friends who drink too much to be reliable, requiring "solo installs" Lol. Great job.
Wood on the back wall looks fantastic 👌
Thanks 👍
you got guts, i woulda had to hire guys to set up the hoist. looks like an old trans am? i had a 79 long ago. youre doin a great job on your project. congrats.
Thank you sir! It really wasn’t to hard I had to slow down and really take my time. Which I’m not good at lol
Nice job
Thanks man
GEAT VIDEO
Thanks you
Very nice! I wish I had one still, even though I'm retired now. I only have one suggestion, if there is not one now.
If it were me, and I was writing the checks, I'd design a dust cover of some kind, to keep dirt off of the cable on the top cross piece. It will accumulate a lot of dirt up there, especially if the cable has grease on it. I live in the country. The amount of dust and debris is surprising. This will help to keep your cable much cleaner going forward. Have fun!
Great suggestion!
I'm retired, and use my two post lift more than I would have while I was still working. They will pay for themselves after a few brake jobs and other routine maintenance tasks. I can't believe how much mechanics shops charge for simple jobs. Anything I can't do, I'll send out, but I've saved a lot by DIY jobs. I have a 3/4 ton four door diesel, so these lightweight Asian lifts don't work for my needs. I installed my Mohawk lift with a little help from one of my brothers.
I bought a similar size john deere in 2014, likewise 👍🏻 best investment I've had.
It sure is!
Nice job. I did a Bend Pack some years ago. Funny they have all down rated the lift from 10k to only 9k. The anchors are sure nice to.
Thank you. It’s a super nice shop addition
Because people over load them
Dude I just installed my 10K lift and putting that top cross member was a major pain I can't believe you did that by your self!!
Yeah, same here.
that drill had a hammer setting, would of made it a tad easier and maybe would of went thru that rebar? BUt nice job buddy cant wait to put mine in thank you.
Did you have them reinforce the concrete when they did the slab? I always thought you have to have them dig down and put support pillars with rebar at the big heavy support beam locations.
How do you like your lift so far? Any complaints? I’m debating getting this one vs the bendpak 10apx, difference obviously being mainly price but also bendpak being ALI certified and RTD not.
Just came across your channel when researching metal buildings. We are getting ready to purchase a 26 x 40 very similar to yours. Side note, I had a silver '79 TA 6.6... I miss it every day. Regarding your Romex wiring, it's not code to run in the open. Type MC armored cable would be a more appropriate choice in this situation and would also require a saddle clamp instead of a grommet going into the electrical box on the lift.
Did you unload this lift with your tractor? Im gauging how these are shipped and if I can fork it off with my 2 series JD
What happened to the 16 foot trusses?
After using lift a year later what are your thoughts? Good, the bad, and the ugly. Did you also consider Danmar and BendPak when you researched and why did you choose RTD? Great video!
You can change the garage door tracks to follow the roof line so you’ll have room for trucks
I’m
Really considering that I wish I would’ve done it from the beginning already
@@ProjectDadLife yep another you tube video 😉$$
Loving the videos.
How high is your shed walls and the center? What do you think is the minimum height required for a hoist?
Thanks man! Walls are 10’ and lowest ceiling point is 12.5’
I had a question about this lift, if the lift is asymmetrical, how come it’s installed straight in line with the posts? I thought they were supported to be at like a 30 degree angle.? Does it mean that its bi-symmetric lift or did I miss something?
Have you had any heavy trucks on it
Quick question on your garage layout. For the garage door that the lift is behind, how far from the closest wall is the door? And how far from the wall is the post for the lift? Were you able to center the lift within the door opening? Thanks. Looks great!
The door is set 4’ off the end wall. The lift is center to the 10’ garage door. The end wall post is about 3.5” off the end wall. Hope that helps. Let me know if you want more measurements or pictures to help. It’s always nice knowing first hand before laying your own out.
@@ProjectDadLife That helps a lot. Thanks!
Great video! How far from the wall is the outside none power unit post?
Thanks man! It’s about 4’ maybe a bit more
Are the posts 12' tall? Asking because I'm installing one with 12' posts and want to use my tractor like you did, just want to see if it will have enough reach to get me that high up
How wide did it wind up being? Im hopeing one will fit nicely in my garage which is a 35x24 3 car side entry so i dont have much space inbetween the car bays
Exactly 138 inches from outside to outside post. I just installed mine today
How do you like that race tools lift? I am going to pull the trigger on a 2 post baseplate lift from them
I got the same lift. Did you have a bunch of extra small nuts and bolts? I have quite can few can't figure out where they are supposed to go. The directions wasn't bad but I had to do some guessing.
I didn’t have anything left over thanks for watching! I still love it works great
Does your lift columns shake when u you lift a few feet and bounce vehicle? Mine does little concerning lol
For those having to pull an electrical permit or get an inspection, there are NEC codes that will definitely fail this installation (to many wires in the motor box and wiring must be protected in conduit). If you aren't under the thumb of an agency or have a business...no worries.
Hey there! Im also in GA, and premier was a company that was suggested to me for our new property. Id really like to pick your brain a little, if you have time of course. Nice work on the vids btw!
Of course I’d love nothing more than to help someone dodge some of the crap I went through. Send me an email will touch base. Info@projectdadlife.com thanks.
@@ProjectDadLife sent!
@@ProjectDadLife hopefully it got to you. The website isnt an active one according to that link.
Just installed the first (command) post. Used the tractor and an engine hoist to stand it up. Once up, just lifted about 1 inch off the ground while daughter inched tractor forward into place. Then lowered and kept a little slack in the strap as a safety while I aligned post with marks on the floor. Fortunately the garage door is 12ft x 12ft so had a few inches above the post to lift. After epoxy cures in 2.5hrs, plan to loosen nuts, level post (VERY close already), tighten nuts again, then tomorrow to set the second post and the top bridge.
What anchors did you use with the epoxy?
@@kylepawelczyk163 Red Head 3/4" think 5- 1/2" long. I tightened with a few sharp jerks until I felt the collar engage. Then let the epoxy sit for about 45 secs, then half turn, wait 5-10 secs and repeat half turn at a time. It seemed to help with the resistance and setting the collar quite firmly and also the epoxy.
Do NOT level the nut with the top of the bolt and hammer it in place (as we've all been taught to preserve threads). It jams up the nut. The end of the bolt is already tapered so threads are safe.
Very pleased with the results
@@jjclarkson3261I’m using the same anchors. I’m installing the lift this weekend. I figured I would drill the 3/4” hole like normal and then put some epoxy in the hole, torque the bolts to 110ft lbs while the epoxy is wet and then let it cure for a day and then check the torque the next day to make sure they are tight.
@@kylepawelczyk163 I will also suggest to leave the mixing tip off the tube, squeeze out until even amounts coming out of white and black, then about 2" diameter blob on cardboard, mix with putty knife until uniform gray. Epoxy cures in nozzle before you can use it again.
@@kylepawelczyk163 (AFTER inserting 2 in each upright and allowing to cure overnight to hold in position) I drilled my holes first, used 3/4" plumbing pipe cleaner (type of wire brush for inside of pipe before soldering- like a shoot-barrel cleaner shape) with plastic handle smashed off, wire handle flattened to fit into very slow drill chuck, and air, to clean out holes. Laid them out and ready, did one at a time and capped tube between uses. I think I used 3 tubes- first one was much wasted as only sunk 4 anchors total, being very careful everything was lined up.
I did mine by my self with a bucket tractor and the worst part of the job as getting from the side of the road where the trucking company dropped it off to the polebarn that took about 2 hours
oh yeah lucky i picked mine up on my trailer it was so much easier
Did your tractor manage to lift the entire 2-post lift package kit? You know, unloading from the delivery truck.
Can I ask did this come with the install kit? The anchors?
Yes it came with all the anchors needed
If you had a 4 post lift, could you not anchor it at all?
IM not sure ive never even used a 4 post lift
Why did you decide to do a 20amp 2 pole with 12/2 instead of 30 with 10/2? Everywhere I read it’s mixed opinions.
That’s what the motor specs required
Being a lift tech and installer it’s deff frustrating installing over seas lifts and things not being machined right 😠
It sounds frustrating, good luck with your job. Thanks for watching
Do you happen to know how much hyro oil it takes and what kind??
I used tractor hydrolic oil from tractor supply. It used about 3 gallons
❤💓❤❤❤
Thank you
how far are the post from the door? if the door is closed, how much room to the bumper of the car?
About 10-11’ with my trans am on it there’s about 5’ with the door closed
If I gotta pull an engine or anything the door will definitely have to be open
Who else clicked because of the beautiful Firebird in the thumbnail?
Just kidding... or am I?
Great job on the installation! I'm one of those "solo commando" types too... this kinda superman monkeybusiness may one day be the death of me!
Thanks man hopefully so the trans am some love soon. Lol I totally am the same way! Thanks for the support
You still liking the lift? I'm thinking about ordering this brand
Yes! 100% no issues at all
What did you use to insulate the roof in your shop? Or was that part of the install? Thanks
its called double bubble in the trade. probably a 3-5mm foil sheet with one white side.
@@ProjectDadLife thanks for the reply.
Yeah man of course! Wish I knew exactly what it was called
@@ProjectDadLife Got another question for you. I have the same lift, what size wire and breaker(s) did you run to this?
I have been shopping for some two post lifts for my shop. Thank you so much for posting this. I think these may be the ticket and the price is right. How do you like it so far? Any issues???
Thanks for watching! Love it so far no issues at all!
Does this not have to be signed off by the manufacturer?
The plans do yes. that was the big issue I had. the building was different than the engineered plans sold to me.
This is similar in design to an EAE branded hoist.
Thanks for telling me, now I’m starting to see it.
@@ProjectDadLife What are you seeing?? Are you having problems with it?
hows this lift doing now? been eyeballing the same lift!!
It’s been great not one issue.
@@ProjectDadLife nice I’m exchanging emails with them now. Considering their baseplate 2 post due to height restrictions. Thanks for the quick reply
Jealous definitely. For the most part this was an informative installation with info on stuff not covered by others.
Word of advice, please don’t use the loader for a man lift, platform or do anything under a raised loader. I know it seems perfectly ok but it’s a good way to die. Absolutely don’t want that for you. I liked how you just rigged and raised them completely on your own with the tractor, most videos I’ve seen people struggle.
Could you have just used the switch wire assuming it has a ground and tied your power into the box on top instead of doubling back? Just a second thought, pretty sure an electrician would cringe at any electrical installation, you should get plenty of feedback.
Enjoyed the video none the less. Keep up the work!
Thanks for the input. I honestly didn’t think about feeding power through the switch. It was just a 2 wire contact switch no ground. But now that I’m thinking about it. I could have just ground the top and powered the switch up top. Leaving just a single hot wire down to the motor🤔. Thanks for watching man. Ill stay out from under the bucket.
I wish i had a tractor, all i had is a Engine hoist and ropes
The two posts have to be wide apart, otherwise you couldnt open/close the car doors.
thats true. thanks for watching
It is a real trick without a tractor/forklift to do a lift alone. Not a trick I plan to learn. JD 4600
Nice! Yes sir it is. Tractors are a life saver for sure
How deep did you have to drill into the concrete
4.5”
@@ProjectDadLife not to grill you with questions but If my concrete is only 4” thick which is acceptable per their description for a 9k lb lift should I still drill that far? I know this is the first one you’ve assembled but I can’t seem to find the info anywhere else
@@Likeabull no problem man. I was questioning mine also and after talking with the manufacturer as long as you drill the required depth hole and don’t go through your concrete.
Why does it matter if you drill all the way thru the concrete? Also you should of used epoxy on the business ends of your wedge anchors, I have a new 2 post lift and use it daily in my shop, I have 9 inches of concrete with rebar into existing slab. I have to constantly retorque my anchors. I have 3/4 by 5 1/2 wedge anchors. They are a terrible anchor for these types of lifts. They WILL WORK LOOSE over time. So always check the tightness, I will loosen the nuts and drive me back down and then re tighten sometimes. But it’s complete bullshit either way.
@@Likeabull Just drill all the way through if you have 4" concrete. If you don't, you'll risk busting out the bottom when you pound the anchors in, and that would be bad news.
Just an FYI. Most hydraulic fluid is combustible so not the best idea to run that line right next to an electrical wire. It’s the same reasoning for not running your underground electrical wires in the same trench as a gas line.
Great video ,would be even better without music
Thanks for the input
Thank God for your video, the wiring diagram in the instructions aren't very good, all the instructions are not too good. Lift works excellent though
Awesome glad it helped!
Is there someone in your garage with a guitar and amp?
My wife made me turn it down.
Shes trying to watch KOJACK
Dont like the idea of shims like that. All that weight on washers........
I need a tractor, too. :P
You'd be hard pressed to get it perfectly plumb without shims...that being said, my shims were plastic😳, so I mixed up some epoxy concrete so I could get full contact of the pad with no pressure points caused from the shims.
Using your tractor is not cheating. Work smart not hard.
Absolutely! Thanks for watching
I'm scared of Chinese lifts.. becarful.. I requed an old Rotary inground lift.. it is vary old ,as me .. but it was in great shape case wise..not rusted bad .I cleaned it up painted it and coated with truck bed liner dug a 8 ft hole , plumbed it.. oil tank above ground....now back in service in my home shop.. after sitting idal for 35 yrs.. now back in service..
You should always drill all the way through the concrete when installing anchors. That way you can hammer it through the concrete if the anchor becomes damaged or anything.
Hire an electrician, you should NOT have used 'Romex' for this installation.
Thanks. Can you give me reason why? I’m just curious?
It’ll be fine. I would have used uf-b but it’s basically in a plastic raceway and has grommet. It’s not underground or in direct sunlight so who cares? Must be an anal inspector that can’t even give a reason, just uh I read it in a book somewhere…
@@ProjectDadLife tHE REASON WHY IS: Romex has solid copper conductors and as time will tell, the frequent bending of up and down cycles, will break the conductors with metal fatigue. SO, SJ, Festune, or other flexible cable is designed to flex the length of the cable and will last ALMOST indefinitely.
Should have put the Romexx in conduit with a conector at the box
If you had some tunes and a bar fridge it would have been more difficult and took longer with three guys drinking beer talking about their opinions on how to install the fuckin thing
Haha right!
