As much fun as the component drop was, it always bothered me that I couldn't really see individual pieces. This new camera pan solves that problem! And it shows how much space the game takes up on your table. Thanks!
My feel was that this was a lighter Gloomhaven. Lighter box, lighter art, lighter gameplay, but a lot of mechanics still felt like Gloomhaven.
Yea my question is….parking children interest aside…will you get this over gloomhaven?
@@kennychan6645 Personally as someone who is deep into frosthaven right now, I would still say yes. Its nice to just pick up and be casual without as many moving parts AND its a nice entry point if youre unsure if someone will enjoy the concepts and mechanics in gloom/frost. Not to mention price point lol

I can't wait to get my copy. A few comments:
You can actually be more than one elite class as long as you meet the requirements. The rule is that only one player can be a particular elite class (so you cannot have 2 necromancers). When you take a level in a different elite class, it replaces your current class card, however if you take another level in an elite class that isn't your current class, it will replace it again.
When leveling up, there are different symbols next to the cards that you add. One of them indicates that you can replace a card which means that you can cull cards out from your deck which adds another element to the level up process.
Additionally, the Side Quest book is not part of the base game. It was a kickstarter bonus or can be ordered directly from Letiman Games for non-backers.

I can't express enough how cool this game is. I played the prototype quite a bit. This is literally FFT. When and if they come back to KS, this game could be a great game. That random order thing, I was hoping they changed that too. I totally agree with this review.
There are some classes that can influence the Initiative Order. We also added a mechanic that allows you to cash in a Revive Potion that allows you to completely re-do the Initiative as well. It can be risky to do that as those are basically your party's lives but can prevent you from running into a situation where it feels like you have "bad" back-to-back Initiatives.
That being said, I'm open to revisiting the mechanic in the future as well!

I just preordered this for my birthday because I was looking for an easier dungeon crawl and I love the level up and class changes they offer.
I really do love this game. It’s been a fun recreation of FFT. I’ll also say the directions need improvement and the boss card actions need clarification. For instance there was an action that read if there are two or more undefeated... Why describe that action in the negative versus saying if you defeated 2 or more. Also there were multiple instances were names changed spoiler warning is it the (c***d) of light or of destiny. Why use them interchangeably. There was another instance were we didn’t know if the boss began emerged or not emerged.
Generally I love the game and this is making me want to go back and play Jaws of the Lion.
Loved this format, so good.
Will try to catch the (inevitable?) next KS.
Ah, sounds like an Aeon's End style turn-order system, which I recall being one of Tom's biggest issues with that game as well. Very fun review to watch! Might have to check this out.

I am glad that Tom have pointed out the similarities of this game with Final Fantasy Tactics. The leveling up system with different class requirements and skills are amazing! Hope to play this game soon 😁

This is a common question: Which game to get for my kids?
There are a few very good kids games released lately:
Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower, Andor the family fantasy game, Chronicles of Avel, CoraQuest, and The Quest Kids
According to BGG rating (and their age group as per community):
1 Coraquest 6+
2 Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower 8+
3 Chronicles of Avel 6+
4 The Quest Kids 3+
5 Andor the family fantasy game 5+
Of the 5, the only 1 I own is CoraQuest. It is as good as they say it is. I would argue it is the most play tested by kids out of the bunch, since kids (including the designer's own daughter) was heavily involved in its design. Other than kids, I was also able to play this with adults who has never dungeon crawled before, and they all got it in a few minutes. So this can potentially also be used as a gateway game to start an adult dungeon crawl group, before you start playing Gloomhaven and others.
The other games also looks good from the reviews I watched. It just depends on your kids and their age. I cannot speak more about them because I haven't play them.
Rahdo said this could be the next Gloomhaven in a stream so pretty good recommendations overall.
@@clvrswine no one. Absolutely no one watches Rahdo or the Dice Tower or cares what they think. You cam finally move on and not worry about it.

Thank you for the review. I really liked some parts of Gloomhaven but the theme is too dark to be appealing to my kids and I. I think this game will be a great game to level up characters in a lighter setting.

Question. Obv feels like it's geared to a younger audience (awesome) but also looks like there are a lot of abilities/cards on the dashboard. Did your kids utilize/remember them all, or were you sometimes reminding them "oh, dont forget you have this, and you can do this..."

I'm glad Tom liked it after playing it, even though he didn't when he looked at the KS. Also, this doesn't look like a kid's game does it?
Mechanics are simple but tons of options for level up and equipment. Kids can get it.
Rolling a lot one ones? Take comfort in the knowledge that Mike can't even hit a rock.
After completing Gloomhaven, this looks like the next thing to do. My inner child says ... yaaay !

I had seen a different review which indicated that some of the components had quality control issues. Does anyone know if they have been resolved, or maybe that one was an anomaly?
The big problem is the player boards being warped. They've announced they're having new ones made, but no date for release or if/how much it will cost to replace them.
For kids, under 10, would you recommend this over Stuffed Fables, Heroquest, or Mice & Mystics?

Really don’t like the art. Wish it was more Epic like old school Hero Quest. Passing based just on theme. Too bad, seems like the game play is great.
To each his own, but good lord no. I don't think Hero Quest has aged well but the art has aged the worst.
Isn't there enough of that kind of art style in board games and rpg games in general? Frankly I can't stand the boring old style.
Personally I love the art. It's a big reason I got the game.
