It should have been axed. The BRZ can't get a turbo because of this thing, and the Corolla GR is gonna be light years better anyway. They can mass produce that Toyota in both sedan and hatch, and the Rex could have just been a rebadged version of it.
@@alstound The Corolla is tiny compared to the WRX. Two very different cars. We also own a GR Yaris, both cars have thier good and bad points.
EN will destroy it
@@fullboost elantra N shits on this, pulls a freight train on the WRX in the straights, and is faster around the corners, breaks better, has superior equipment and features dollar to dollar, way better seats, and a great sounding exhaust, adaptive suspension, give me a break
I’d really want to see what catback twin exhaust aftermarket makes the new wrx sound like bug eye
They say it’s trash on social media but if you look at it in person, it does look sick.
It looks worse in person
@@juanmagana2939 How? I have this car in black but you could say that for yourself
@@WRX_CARLITOS i have seen the new models parked and they dont look good, but not long ago i was driving behind one, and even my best friend said,,, oh it does look ugly, and i agree, it really looks ugly.

Hugely underrated by web warriors - looks slick especially in the flesh.
facts lol this car looks so nice on the street
Bro. I thought they were so ugly. I went to my local Subaru dealership 2 days ago. With my 2020 Subaru WRX premium/w/performance package. I ended up leaving with a new 2022 Subaru WRX LIMITED in the beautiful silver color they offer. I absolutely love it. In person it looks so much better. It looks unbelievable aggressive. I love how linear the power band is now, I always have power at any rpm. It is fantastic.
The only Subaru I like is the 2015 one before the facelift. Not a fan of 2020 Subaru facelift.
Who cares?@@chrisx5127
The new WRX looks so much better in the metal than it does in videos or photos.....I like the shape and look
rear end is atrocious.. look again
@@roboticvenom1935 your entitled to your opinion....but I like them that much I brought one
I massively prefer the rugged offroad look vs. the fast-and-furious look of the VA, but I'm a WRX fan because of the rallying heritage. My only complaint is I wish the higher trims came with CrossClimate2's on the 18" rims, and had a set of 15 or 16 inch wheels with some sort of all-terrain tire. And vented discs/proper calipers, but that's easily sorted.
"We’ve got a couple of STIs at work"
Yeah, I know what you mean. Not ideal when it turns out someone is getting around the office a bit.
It’s not the “Shark Eye”, it’s called the “No ST Eye”
I'm dead 💀
Nah m8, we voted on a reddit poll. No ST eye was good but Shark eye won.
Idk why I imagine pink eye
Do you even have an STI do you even own a Subaru?
@@mrsubaru5367 yes I do, a bugeye STi.
Really thorough video here. I like how level headed you were comparing the new to the old while still addressing the pain points of the new.
I know you're up to like 400k something subs, but you guys are so talented at this. Should be well over a mil. Great production, music, editing, cinematography, dialogue, sheesh.
Agreed, I don't know why there aren't more subscribed. Fullboost is my favorite car related channel by a mile, and I watch most of the Australian ones.
Thanks guys ☺️🤙
Congratulations to yous for the 25 years YTB supporting you from Rotorua New Zealand ❤ 😎 🤘

"Shark eye"....Gold!
Little sprogs say the darnedest things.
Defiantly worth fostering and remembering as an adult.
Keep that spark!

Shark eye is the best name
Great vid guys, keen to see the new mods.
Going to go cop a 25 yr hoodie, but wondered where you got that wrx hoodie! Looks great!
Awesome video as always
Grats on the new ride.
Right behind ya im getting one soon and i cant wait for this to be my Daily
Great video guys
The borla s type sounds the best on these FA's at least the fa20, Cobb catted resonated down pipe with borla cat back is very lively with turbo whistles when starting stopping. It's the only exhaust I could find that accents the stock turbo, sounds quite good on cold starts also.
Nice work, I’d be happy with that WRX 👍
I've had my 2011 STI Spec R for 3yrs and have enjoyed putting 40,000 km on it. No plans to ever sell it. (original drive train)
I'm shocked at how theyre gaining value.
The wrx would be perfect for me. I've owned liberty gt and spec b and I loved the awd aspect. I currently have a mazda 3 gt manual, which is a great daily but it is useless in wet weather. I don't need heaps of power just something that I look forward to driving.
You can get the Mazda 3 in AWD tho 🤷♂️
@@BrainFuck10 not in Australia as far as I'm aware. The American market does get the awd turbo.
Looks great in WR blue!
I went to look at one the other day and its actually nice in person. I bought it
I love mine. I knew since the Internet hated it. I had to upgrade. Loved my hatch and Hawkeye I had over the years tho!
When I bought my MT-10 couple of weeks back, they said the same thing about running it.
Pretty much don't do a highway run at one rpm.
I like the looks and the SPT/CVT is perfect for daily driving.. An all around GT car in the top spec.
Everyone likes a new WRX for the first couple of years they run reliably
As a 22 owner I can say it performs well
I like this car. It’s just a shame Subaru dropped the STI for this gen WRX. Especially with Toyota bringing the GR Corolla soon and the Civic Type R on the way.
How about the "Shart eye?"😆
I gotta agree, modern Subarus (except for the xv and base spec Impreza) are quite nice vehicles, the interior is much better than most Toyotas and the cars are generally good to drive.
I’ve convinced a few of my friends to give Subarus a shot and all of them are happy.
Not everyone wants a 1000 hp, and if you want a 1000hp, then build it and stop whinging
Nothing wrong with the Xv honestly. Great vehicle.
Yeah nothing wrong with subarus, just the engine
hyundai has much better interiors lol..
The only bloke I’ve ever seen wearing a seatbelt on the Dyno!!! Too funny
Great vid
The beeping is unbearable ☺️
Any way to wrap the plastic wheel arches? The front lip+skirts can stay
I do have to say im not the biggest fan of the look but its your car and as long as you like it thats all that matters
Good choice. On a bang for your buck basis ,a tuned WRX is hard to go past ,particularly when your factor in the extra grip the of the AWD platform.
Be careful with the suspension tune though , handling for Subies is all about getting rotation and firing them out of corners. Stiffening them too much without messing with stabiliser bars and you'll get understeer , big time.
love to know what mods you have done if any yet ? I'm very interested in getting one of these ..
You made the comment "a lot of people think the motor is out of the Ascent, but it's not," what do you mean by that specifically? I'm just curious because on certain forums people are spreading information about how it's the Ascent motor and since a shop made 500whp with the Ascent motor, this motor can make 500whp. Just wondering if there are any major differences between them.
Thanks!
Suspension MCA Aussie made
put it on my Levorg great as for the Bilsteins in the bin it used to bottom out all the time
With that early music I was expecting the Queen's "Flash Gordon" theme song to break out.
Your editor did an amazing into
I think it's good value in the current market. A tune and a brake kit will make it a great daily and fun car. Have you driven a new Octavia RS? Not AWD but a decent alternative for a little extra coin
I considered one but I would have bought an i30 over it.
I bought the TS WRX wagon a couple weeks back and I love it. It exactly what i was after. I just had it in for its 1k service. I never grandma'd mine either, i driove it quite spritely straight out of the dealer. Niggles - the brakes suck as you say, the tyres on the wagon suck, the ridiculous amount of safety alarms and warning is really doing my head in, having to changes everything in the menus every time you turn it on.
re the safety alarms, i have the base model wrx on order and it does not have all that bullshit including no stop/start.
@@bobhebblewhite1685 I really hope in the future that Subaru will let the registered user really customise his drive settings and remain like that when you turn it on
@@jasonlewis2990 no other car maker does, with mazda ï stop" people jam the switch to on position. the height of arrogance
I have a 2022 wrx cvt. I don't hate it. Fun daily driver.
Throwaway that big ass laggy front mount intercooler from that bugeye, put in pwr "air to water" intercooler setup for best boost response
Damn what a nice WRX 🔥
The shark eye is a pretty cool name ngl
your bugeye is the only other one with a FMIC that has the hot side charge pipe going under the engine as my car.
Bought a 23' wrx base in white... I love the car!!!
Keen to see how much boost that new motor can handle
I'm bout to get a 22 premium and the first mod I'm doing is ripping out the base speakers and putting some proper speakers in. IDK who Harmon Kardan is to be honest but I know brands that I DO trust like JBL, Alpine, JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate etc and I know what kind of sound I would like to see.
The JBL setup in the GR Yaris is terrible lol😂
I read some guys in America just did some bolt ons with a new unopened 2.4 and got 500hp.
Shark Eye is the official new name. Love it haha.
So many missed engineering opportunities over the current and last gen WRX. It's a great turbo location but silly to stick with a top mount given the extra piping and having the throttle inlet face backwards when the turbo is in front of the engine below...what...so silly.
I'm paranoid about keeping my car's reliability as good as it can be. On the new WRX, I'd immediately swap out the brake pads for better ones, and change the brake fluid for a higher quality one. Maybe swap out the tires for ones better in the dirt and mud. (Hey, it's a rally performance car.) But at least in the beginning, I'd leave everything else alone, for now.
Very cool I didn't realise you guys were getting one of these.
Either did we 😜
From memory, your wagon has a VF22 turbo ?
VF34P20
Ahh yep, great combo. I made 232kw @ 25psi on V6 Sti engine and flex fuel with the same turbo. Powerband was 3.5k to 7k. I was going to recommend a 34 if you had a 22, they are known for shit mid-range. I'd still keep the FMIC it looks the goods
Owned an STi '18 w/ some mods (borla etc) and now a MYLR, never going back to ICE
E85 tune will pick up the most power. Water methanol injection addresses temperature rise. Do both!
Would of been a pisser if you and Geordie ran over to the BA falcon ACA styles after he ditched it and ask what mods and how much was spent for him to lose it so hecticly !!!!🤣👍🍻
Pity we didn't get his entry on camera it was impressive 😜
bought a white base model and love it!
Should see what prime motorsports done, catback and e60 blend made 300whp.
People… it’s a car. An object. If you like it and can afford it, then buy it. If not… don’t. Simple as that.
11:35 - maybe they keep the calipers on the small side so smaller size rally rims fit.
Subaru 4 pots fit rally wheels. Rally teams ditch the Brembos on STi's and put 4 pots on to get them rally ready.
just having to put this wrx next to a bugeye, to make it look good, says it all... and the 272HP, the tiny brakes and the plastic intake manifold, are just another kick in the balls....
Keep both of em man
Bang on, not much choice in that price range AWD new performance cars.
Facelift will prob have better brakes.
Pretty surprised you guys are running the FMIC on the old bugeye. The inlet tract is way too long (hence the lag). Stick a big process west TMIC on it with a waterspray and you'll get your throttle response back 😄
Yep, that's how the car was bought.
How'd bench torque coming along
What's the ETA on Bench Torque #57?? Been awhile
Love the content as always fellas
Yeah sorry it's been on the backburner cos of TikTok :)
What headers are on the bugeye? i love the way that thing sounds
They are equal length.
You call em wrx's, i call them DAK DAKs. Coz thats the sound they make before they go DAK DAK DAK BOOOOM 🤣😘
Work with Harrop to develop some brakes?
The looks grew on me
I actually like shark eye, hope it sticks
13:00 different exhaust note on new engine wasnt because of of DI...
But due to equal length turbo manifold and twinscroll.. also with shorter manifold, the exhaust pulse shoter and less rumble... Unless swapping full catless exhaust system or single 100cell cat, the exhaust note were not as good as older ej series sound
We were referring to all modern DI engines don't sound as good, not just the FA.
@@fullboost i still think mainly due to the way they design turbo header for majority of them...
Which often cast as 1unit with the turbo hot side with super short exhaust runner...
Mean less exhaust pulsing and lacking "signature" exhaust note...
Atleast those on fa series subaru can be altered with just header swap...
While other makes of engine might need a whole new turbo unit together..
Cheers 🍻
What exhaust are you running on the bugeye I’m looking to put one like that on my bugeye wagon, I still rather gc8s and gds even after test driving one they don’t feel as alive
The black bug has an Xforce Varex system.
@@fullboost thankyou fullboost I’m definitely putting one of these on my car
I agree the brakes look terrible, at least put 4 pot red brakes on it :)
i agree its a good car
I have to say, new WRX looks more upscale and mature than previous generations. But why like mazda with mazdaspeed when they made a mature car did they decide ”eh, no performance model” and offer the recaro seats with the cruddy cvt? So many marks missed…
Wrap it orange and camouflage it, solid dig at motive 😂😂
Looks good when I lay down and close my eyes
I really wanted to see an sti version of the sedan, I would’ve put a pre-order in. That engine was going to be 300kw and the sti body kit would’ve been colour coded. Wheels and brakes surely would’ve been a step up as well.
You can easily mod this car and improve it in every way (seen people in the US doing this now), but at the cost of having to potentially forgo any warranty protection and the hassles of having to list the changes on the policy and pay for it.
I feel we might see Subaru at least offer some factory options that put it back in sti territory. Like a dccd option with LSD front and rear, a brembo brake package. This WRX will probably be on the market for 8 years so there going to be some updates.
The car has a rear LSD in Australia on manual models.
@@fullboost My bad, I meant to say upgraded helical style like from the STI (which also has LSD on the front.)
@@BrandoDrum You'd be surprised at how well the new one handles even on the factory tyres.
@@fullboost I agree, everyone wants an sti for the name, but this new car drives better than the last sti.
There was a tuning shop that did 500 horsepower on an ascent block swapped into an outback with STI drivetrain, unopened block. Melted a piston going lean from maxing out the DI, so I suppose this thing will be pretty reliably going to 400 if there’s no drivetrain limitations.
It’s a shame these don’t run port and direct injection like the Toyotas as they would make the tuning potential far greater
@@TheWretchedWorld that’s where a gr86 manifold comes into play. It needs to be adapted and and ecu needs to control it, but it is possible
@@inaNis_ does the 86 have both?
@@TheWretchedWorld yes. Toyota D4S system does both DI and MPI
Hi There, I bumped into you at Subaru Docklands a few weeks ago; good to see you took the plunge on the WRX. Can I ask how you have found the real-world fuel economy and comfort on the freeway etc..
I've done 900km in at an average of 10.9/100km so far. That includes some dyno pulls and plenty of spirited driving. I'm guessing on the highway it would average somewhere in the 8s at a guess?
@@fullboost cheers, much appreciated. Sounds reasonable.

i test drove one and was pretty impressed. why does the steering wheel feel so cheap? feels like hard plastic. for osmething you will be touching all the time thats a big shame.
Ide be interested to know the actual rotor size and car mass and what it takes to cook them. Brakes have become a bit of a flex and fashion accessory
I was driving the blue one in the wet yesterday, the brakes are average, the black car has an STi Brembo setup it's not even comparable.
Biggest mistake not making a STI version.
Strange that there is no big brake option.
Happy the shockworks treatment is coming. Maybe some tbm brakes from motion might do the trick fam
Why would they fit drag racing brakes from an American company when there are plenty of Australian companies who make high quality street/circuit focused brake kits?
