    I've had mine almost a week now. Same color. Love it ! Great finish, stays in tune well....same pickups as their more expensive SE models...lightweight (mine is 7.2lbs). Great feel and playability. Love it ! Retails for $499 USD and it included a gig bag !

    I wonder if you could put a tung oil finish over the factory finish. Just for some protection. I don't mind natural dings but my experience with that type of finish is it won't offer the wood much protection. Tung oil hardens and will protect it well.

    • @maarsmusic
      @maarsmusic  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Super interesting idea! It's true, a satin finish does require a little more care -- sometimes those hard poly finishes make you forget how delicate essentially raw wood can be.
      Doesn't make me as nervous as acoustic guitar tops that lack binding....

    • @supernoobsmith5718
      @supernoobsmith5718 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@maarsmusic I would love it if guitars took the understated approach of classical instruments in regards to aesthetics. This guitar would make a nice example of that type of look. My worry about this guitars finish is not just because it's satin, but I know I read somewhere it's a very thin single coat, in line with making the guitar so inexpensive. I'm considering buying because I just got a $550 quote to refret my 99 SG. I'm having a hard time deciding to spend that when I can get this PRS for less.

  • @HumanBeanbag

    • @maarsmusic
      @maarsmusic  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Haha -- that's fair when it comes to visuals, to each their own. It makes sense to cut costs and I'm more shocked on high end acoustics sometimes. A Gibson SG can look rather fetching in satin -- don't you think?

      The PRS SE CE24 comes in Vintage Cherry, Charcoal and Turquoise. Once you play one, we think you'll agree that the price is more than justified when compared to the competition. We'd rate Sire as offering similar value for the electric guitar dollar, but few others (out of the box experience).

      Yes, definitely -- it has the same PRS Patented Tremolo as the more expensive SE CE 24. We quickly tuned the out of the box SE and played it from there in the video (we'd usually stretch the strings and tune a few more times before playing it otherwise!).

      @maarsmusic  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@sammyrothrock6981 Sire does make nice guitars for sure and we carry these as well. It will be some time before the prestige and strength of the brand can't be compared to PRS, but they are growing rapidly and their 2024 models are promising.
      Aside from Sire, the other brands other brands aren't really comparable on the open market -- they are currently low name awareness copies that don't have a track record of retaining mainstream value, service or durability. So, they have no choice but to be cheaper.
      We'll see where they are at in 10, 20 years time and how well they hold up.
      At this point, I'd take a real Martin, Taylor, Gibson, PRS, Rickenbacker or comparable brand any day of the week.
      Yet, there is choice and you're free to buy any guitar you can afford, and that's the best part of all.

      H Nicholas, it's definitely not as attractive as the SE CE24, but that's part of the trade off -- no maple cap and no maple veneer on this model (nor the glossy finish) and this accounts for the difference in price from $669 to $939 (CAD).
