  • Unless you are a cave diver you are probably unaware of this sign. It is the Grim Reaper sign that was introduced in 1990 to try and persuade cave divers not to go any further or risk death. Its ominous warning; STOP Prevent your death! Go no further. It also lists four Grim Facts:
FACT: More than 300 divers, including open water scuba instructors, have died in caves just like this one.
FACT: You needed training to dive. You need cave training and cave equipment to cave dive.
FACT: Without cave training and cave equipment divers can die here.
FACT: It CAN happen to YOU!
THERE'S NOTHING IN THIS CAVE WORTH DYING FOR! DO NOT GO BEYOND THIS POINT.
The sign was Inspired by a true tragedy back in 1975 at Ginnie Springs, when three sailors explored the caves without appropriate equipment or training. All three lost their lives.
So if you are cave dive enthusiast and you see the Grim Reaper sign, ignore it at your peril it could cost you your life!

A cave underwater is kind of like one of those catacombs under a city “oh I’ll just go and look in a few feet”. Next thing you know you’re hopelessly lost. Of course the closest I’ll ever get to that sign is the pool in my back yard

As a certified diver, I would never cave dive regardless of how temptingly beautiful a cave may appear. And with my tendency to see apparitions, including Grim Reapers/Wraiths, it would be just my luck to see one while cave diving, lose my regulator from shock and drown anyway! Lol In all seriousness though, the complete stories of my experiences with wraiths are on my channel. 😱

Another unsettling fact about cave diving is that your corpse may never be recovered, as it's simply too risky or difficult to get to it.
I recommend anyone curious to read the story of Deon Dreyer and Dave Shaw.

You need to do a better job explaining what this sign means, i work at a dive facility and we have one of these signs, and several groups swim past it every single day, this is not a "this area means certain death" sign, its a waning to any dive who hasn't got their cave cert that thay aren't ready for the cave without cave training and cave gear

  • @lornaginetteharrison7168

Even if you have the requisite training and equipment, cave diving will probably still kill you. I really cannot fathom why these people engage in such a dangerously reckless activity, especially if they are married or have children. The people attracted to cave diving appear to be high sensation seekers, craving life and death situations trying to achieve their next high. Others with similar traits become drug addicts. It’s very selfish to repeatedly put your life at risk for your own pleasure, and to basically admit that you care more about your personal gratification than how your kids are going to cope after your almost inevitable death.
