For those wondering about Verrückt.
The slide was built by people with no engineering background who basically just wanted to make it as tall as possible. This was also a park (Schlitterbahn KC) that paid to make sure they could do their own ride inspections, instead of the state doing it. I think I only went 2-3 times to the park but there was always something there that wouldn’t feel safe.
The slide originally was supposed to have an age requirement of 14 to make sure patrons were the right size to prevent rafts from going airborne, but the day before the slide opened, park management removed the requirement so they could increase ridership. Also there was netting with metal support arches above the slide that was meant to catch rafts if they did get a bit of airtime
The 10 year old who died on the slide (Caleb) was the son of a state representative, Scott Schwab. He had climbed to the top to ride down with his brother but because of weight requirements, the two were separated and his brother went down first and waited on him. When it was Caleb’s turn for some reason the attendant let a small child sit in the front of the raft with 2 fully grown women behind him, making the raft unbalanced. This meant that as the raft came up the hill after the drop, the lighter front section of the raft went into the air and was stopped by the netting… except Caleb hit one of the net’s metal support arches and lost his head, killing him instantly. And his brother had to watch the slide water turn red.
The thing that frustrates me the most is even though the Managment who built the slide were charged with the Caleb’s death, the case was eventually thrown out because trying to use the episode of Extreme Waterslides that was about the building of Verrückt apparently was comparing real life to a “clear dramatization” and it somehow voided the whole case (idk I’m not the best with law stuff)
And to return to that feeling that things at that park didn’t feel safe… After this, Kansas finally came in and did a state inspection that led to the closure of EIGHT other slides/attractions in the park that did not comply with safety standards.
Verrückt always gave me chills down my back every time I drove past it, because I could just feel negative energy coming from it. And as a staunch reminder of what happened there: Until the slide’s demolition in 2018, you could see the massive bloodstains on the second half of the ride from the nearby highway.
Schlitterbahn KC closed after the 2018 season and never opened again. Apparently it’s been sold and the land is going to be some sort of park area to go with the surrounding sports venues. The only memorial to Caleb is one his parents installed at their church.
It’s a tragic but incredibly infuriating story bc so many things could have been done to prevent it, but the park cared more about the thrill experience than the safety of those riding it.
- I lived about 20 minutes from the park and this was a major shakeup in the area.

As a proud survivor of class action park in the late 70’s I can tell you that it was crazy. I almost drown on a red raft in the grave pool- if a 15 year old pool worker (who was high as a kite I might add) didn’t happen to look my way I would have drown. Also the cement alpine slide put my brother in the hospital twice. I still wouldn’t change my crazy childhood for anything in the world but I thank God that kid looked my way that day

My dad grew up in New Jersey, so he went to action park like every week. His family never had any medical issues that were caused by the ride, but he still loves to talk about it

I've been on the Australian aqua loop and man is it scary. You try to prepare yourself, but when you drop, it feels crazy! Over in a few seconds though, and if you get stuck, the staff are very well trained and will get you out quickly
Yeah i went on the australia aqua loop in the gold coast in December 2021 and while i was waiting in line, at least like 5 different people got stuck in the tubes but they got out immediately, it was no big deal and there was a bunch of staff to make sure everyone was safe. most of the time though , this incident only happened to people that were quite young and just over the weight minimum

There was actually a similar incident that happened in Australia that happened with a raft ride and it killed 4 people. I'm surprised they did not mention that.
the aqualoop isn’t so dangerous, if you don’t make it all the way around you’ll go back and when you stop there is a hatch above you to get out

I love group raft slides. But the part that Im scared of is the fact that if you go a little fast on a turn, you start flying. I always think that I’m gonna fall of cause the sides aren’t long enough

in Germany a woman got once stuck in an aqua loop (didn't make it over) and forgot to know about the escape hatch, the staff didn't realize someone was still in the slide and let down the next person who then full speed crashed into the women. Both were severely injured.
Was on that slide as well, it actually has 2 loops. Its at Miramar aqua park
Tahts stupid in most water park i go the staff wait until the peraon go out of the ending of the slide then they down another person so its more safe

A curiosity about the Insano waterslide: it’s actually worrying that, despite being a terrifying ride, there was another slide in the same park that could be considered more fatal, since this other slide (vainkará) unfortunately managed to kill a person while insano did not.

Honestly wave pools are probably the most dangerous so many people and the waves literally knock you out almost and bring you under, I almost drowned in a wave pool at West Edmonton Mall

I've been on yas Waterworld and it's not dangerous at all , I live in abu dhabi and I have the silver annual pass , I rode that ride over gazillion times and I never ever got stuck

I'm surprised that Thunder River Rapids Ride at DreamWorld, Queensland, Australia didn't make it to the list but The Aqua Loop at Wet 'n Wild Queensland, Australia made the list. The Thunder River Rapids disaster back in 2016 was terrible. it was like the spot number 2 accident but fatal. DreamWorld is currently building a memorial centre for the lives that were lost that day.
I think it’s because it’s not a water slide, water slides is something you ride down on a tube or on your back, thunder river rapids is a roller coaster that has water as its main thrill seek, so that’s probably why cause a lot of people who talk about roller coasters and water slides know that story, he didn’t include it due to the fact it’s not a water slide, it’s not even found at water parks, they are found at some amusement parks.
Edit: Shot the rapids was on the list, but still, the cedar point accident was worse.

In the shoot the rapids segment, it was located within the Amusement park side of Cedar Point, also the photos and video you used were of another ride within the park called Thunder Canyon...
Cedar Point Shores recently was renovated and upgraded.

Yes they removed it shorty after the accident because it was a maintenance nightmare. It is yet another ride made by intamin which has a poor track record.

I remember I went to Hurricane Harbor, (a water park next to six flags) and me and my best friend Lilja went in the wave pool, and I scraped my knee in the pool and on the scratchy, blistery floor. We both didn’t realize the damage at first, cause I was like “ow that hurt.. whatever” and it hurt so we got out and the next thing we saw was

The only thing me and lilja saw on my leg and shin was pure bl00d. It was so cold!! We immediately alerted a lifeguard and told her that I scraped it badly and asked if she had any band-aids. She didn’t, but she had these cloth pad things so we put them on my kneecap. Like, 5-10 minutes later we went to an aid room and got a bandage. I still have the scar (yes, a scar.) to this day. And that was like, 2 months ago.
In UAE there is a park called dream land which has black hole but its safer cuz it goes straight i went to it couple years ago it was really fun
CP's Shoot the Rapids was NOT in the waterpark, and it was also not a slide, and it was also not a tube river rapids ride like shown in the video. It was a boat drop ride that missed the chainlift going up the lifthill and went backwards causing it to flip. And other guest and ride operators came to quickly flip the boat over.
The re-enactment video you show is very much like the Thunder River Rapids Ride of Dreamworld in 2016 from Queensland, Australia

This was the beginning of the end of World War II. Throughout the entire Battle of Normandy, over 425,000 Allied troops and German troops were killed, wounded, missing, or taken as prisoners. This includes over 209,000 Allied casualties, 125,847 were U.S. ground troops and 83,045 were 21st Army Group men (British, Canadian, and Polish ground forces)........ WORST WATER PARK EVER.......

Fun fact Action Park was responsible for a lot of deaths the grave pool wasn’t the only one where deaths and injuries accrued they had two other water slides that caused injuries there too one that was called Cannonball Falls which was a tube slide where you’d drop out really fast at the end with a 4 feet drop into the water which caused back and shoulder injuries and another water slide called The Cannonball Loop which was a tube slide with a loop at the bottom of which people would get stuck in the loop and had to use the trap door that was installed to get out many injuries also occurred on that one too including one death in fact employees would send crash test dummies down before they opened it and one came out the bottom with arms missing, another came out in pieces and one even came out with it’s head completely missing after that employees were payed $100 dollars to try the Cannonball Loop and every time each one of them came out injured however they still opened the slide anyway there was also a bobsled ride at Action Park too which went down the hill at outrageous speeds and injured people that fell off or got thrown off too the park was nicknamed Accident Park and at the time in the 1980s the park employees who ran the place were either irresponsible and didn’t keep an eye on or supervise kids or were just drunk and high on drugs shortly after all this the park was investigated and deemed as unsafe and broke safety regulations it was then shut down and abandoned. Many people tried to take over the park and upgrade the rides to make them more safe but either ran out of money, abandoned the project entirely or just couldn’t manage it the park then remained abandoned until 2013 until new owners finally took it over and renamed it to Mountain Creek Waterpark it’s still located in the same place and despite its horrible history along with deaths and injuries they changed the name to Mountain Creek Waterpark and it’s still quite popular and much better now due to being upgraded and having better safety regulations in place but some people refuse to visit due to it’s bad reputation and bad history as Action Park aka Accident Park despite the name change, safety regulations and popularity from newcomers.

Bruh the aqua loop is fine my dad has ridden it. He’s not skinny and he didn’t get stuck at all. Sometimes people get stuck, but they can get out with the escape hatches. And the people that get hurt is like almost never. Probably still wouldn’t ride aqua loop though.🤣

I heard about the veruckt slide. The boy passed away unfortunately. The incident then was the reason the slide was forced to close. I do not remember what year the incident happened.
The incident was in August 2016, pretty much the slide was only open for 2 years
