We spoke to folks around Huddersfield about the spate of recent closures and if there is anything to be done to help keep them open.

Forgot to include Extortionate Ctax& Rents for stalls/shops - seems like Kirklees would rather keep units Empty than give business ã chance to build itself with reasonable Rates/Rent etc (& I Have spoken to Quite ã few shop owners who all pretty much say same thing) ~ Go figure~

Huddersfield town is so fractured it’s impossible to shop there
it needs all the shops putting in the same area more streamlined with no empty shops
and the rent for shops is way too expensive
the reason the shops get left empty is due to the insurance as it pays the lost income to the owners (100% of the rent)
so it’s not in the interest of the owner to reduce the rent for small business owners
This is what I was told when I asked someone in the know
Definitely needs more events for the community
it’s not like it’s hard to rally people to help out with events as everyone from Huddersfield are willing to help to save our town
Peace and love to all 💜
