For those who keep saying the audience was dead, when sofar records im pretty sure they ask the audience to be dead silent for audio purposes. Almost all of their events are like this.
Thanks for going to bat as the voice of reason. Even if Sofar didn't request it, the venue and style are intimate, and the crowd's actions are in keeping with that.
Maybe the crowd isn't moving that much, but I clearly feel their attention & respect for reeps ;)
And honestly what an incredible stage/background to perform on.

I think Reeps has a real potential to expand his sound palette with some more obscure sounds and if he brings back some of his more unique skills. He does a lot now just with kick and breath and throat bass which is good for basic dance but it feels like he's drifting from his music. The last few minutes were my favorite of this because they showed a few things I mentioned. There was a brief lip technique that was really clean and I would love to hear more of that.
This is a bit more of an older audience, some of the more obscure techniques wouldn't appeal to them like the would a younger audience. Just my opinion though.

I too wish Reeps would adapt and start playing with some of the new age beatbox sounds and techniques. I really want to see where he would take these tools, but he seems to have falling into what most older beatboxers do, a comfort zone with a few sounds they really know.
I would have died if reeps pulled Two.H out from behind the t rex. Just for those ridiculous monster sounds, lol. But yeah, this was nuts, and i dont think the crowd had any idea what was going on. They were coming out for a night of folk songs, lol.

There is one beatboxer that I wish would start adapting the new age beatbox sounds, and thats Reeps One. Not that im tried of his stuff, but I really want to see where he would take these new tools. Its like giving an artist new instruments, and then watching their unique perspective with them. I wish he would start toying around with them a bit.

You could say the reverse for the crowd if you want to be unbiased about it. The crowd feeds off the entertainer, and I honestly would've been kinda bored if I had no idea how legendary this beatboxer was.
Reeps has done multiple Sofar events. If he didn't want that experience, no-one's forcing him. Crowd was fine, Reeps was fine. Venue and style aren't for hyphy lunatics.

Well, it seems that he has expanded his conciousness enough to start integrating his sounds with his energy body. So as he builds the unified field he will experience the lowering of certain sounds. Because now the sounds are much more linked to his body, his energy, his emotions, his feelings. This is my bet. If he doesn't gather more power he is gonna loose his throat bass power. You can already see how lately his throat bass has been lowering power and here he wasnt comfortable with it. He used it less and less. Reeps, or you become energy, or you are going to loose everything. Start meditating now.

Okay honest talk:
Reeps one is an amazing beatboxer, the things we saw from him and watching him evolve over the years was just great and inspirational. However, in the bbx era we kinda went from beatboxing being a neat party trick to it sounding almost as good as a real electronic song (sometimes even more so with all the effects). But with this style it is a bit disappointing, from various beatboxers who focus on long and abstract build ups and overall abstract beatboxing and then the chorus being 15 secs long. So in reality onlookers think that the person beatboxing is not near as good as he might be (which is why people don't even know beatboxing has evolved). Bring back the quality complex sounds but don't make it too damn abstract, beatbox a song and let the chorus be the main thing. I get that this is a freestyle, but freestlyes can be clean. (clean as in clean routine with complex interesting sounds). Let's discuss in replies, keep it civil.
Exactly what I was thinking! I’m a pretty decent beatboxer myself and that’s what I always do and say. My random beats/ “freestyles” (if you want to call it that) are always -simply- catchy! I’ve just never uploaded any video.
