LEGO Technic Motorized Excavator 8043 Detailed Building Review! 2010 Legend!

- čas přidán 18. 07. 2023
- The LEGO Technic 8043 Motorized Excavator is the single greatest set of all time, and for many good reasons! First of all, it was the first one to introduce a fully remotely controlled gearbox! Second, it had a ton of advanced mechanims besides the gearbox, such as having two independent motions pass through the center of a single turntable. Third, it digs incredibly well. There are a billion more reasons for why it's the best set of all time, which are all explained in the review! Even if you don't own or plan to buy this legendary technic set, I urge you to build the gearbox out of your own pieces. It's something that must be experienced by all technic fans!

This is what lego technic should be about. All mechanical and no programming. 6 mechanism woth 4 motors... This is insane.
7 if you include the gearbox switching
I would love to see some of these sets be re-introduced. Some of the retired sets are better than the new sets that are out.
Absolutely! 8043 needs to be remade!
@@Unbrickmet would be really cool if the set would be remade with al the motors (Maybe with LEGO ideas)
Every 2005-2015 set is better than these we have now
Revolutionary legendary set
Legendary legend!
@@Unbrickme agreed
Great fast paced talking, and loved the small easter eggs. Like 'no pressure, no pressure" and showing a pneumatic model lowering it's arm. If intentional or not, its great. It was fascinating to see how they created this model 13 years ago and looking at it, how it could be improved now with all the currently available new parts like large frames, flipflop beams etc. Looking forward to seeing your LR13000 review.
The “no pressure” with pneumatics part was intentional I always do that. I’m so glad you liked my video! Honestly I can’t think of any ways this excavator could be improved. I would not want it to use any frames or flip flop beams
@@Unbrickme I'm currently working on a project to motorize a current pneumatic set. Model is finished, 3D model as well. But need to wait for the embargo date to have passed to post my video on CZcams. If only I could make videos like yours.. Mine are dull as I don't like speaking on video. Would love to see what someone like you could do with this MOD, or my high bay warehouse. Without talking it's boring to watch for other people, even if it's a sophisticated 6axis robot arm with full kinematic control.. If you're ever in Belgium you're welcome to come shoot a video!
@@Unbrickme I liked the video you had with Buwizz, same talk as with kbalage, we need a physical controller. My video is out now, it does have a physical controller for an orignal Lego set (Modded). Very good speed control possible with the tactile joysticks, would love it if Lego would give direct support to gamepads.
I did not realise how amazing this set was
I was 4 years old when this set came out and didn't know about LEGO Technic back then, so I don't like the fact that I didn't know about this legendary set sooner!
I hope you get this set
wow that made me feel old. that was my first ever technic set and one of the first lego sets I've ever had. incredible set!
What a great way to start your journey into lego Technic! I’m glad you had such a great experience!
Love this Old school of building models
I love this set! Cant wait for the new one to come!
So glad I got this as a kid
Interesting about the upgrade kit. I started to draw the drivetrain with LDCad long ago. I had most of the track drive train done. Doing this review after it’s been out for so long really shows your love for this model. I love it too. Thanks Unbrickme.
I’m glad you enjoyed it
I have it, the most advanced gearbox tied with power functions every made by Lego!
The most advanced model ever!
My first big lego technic Modell. Still one of my favourites.
Thanks for the detailed presentation. I really like this set, I hope to get it in the near future. It adds so much to the videos that you are so enthusiastic.
I’m glad you liked it
This set needs to be rereleased in the future. It shouldve been long ago seeing how many people love it including myself
Agreed
definitely going to buy this set as my second big set, thanks for the review, keep it up 👍
Nice! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did it
Awesome job!
Loved seeing this review!!! Can't be praised enough. Very well done, thanks!
I hope it made you feel nostalgic
@@Unbrickme For sure, for sure. And I totally agreed with the details you pointed out :)
I so happy i got this lego set when it came out, unfortunately i don't have all the motors or any of the pistons anymore but its still awesome
wow! Amazing!!!
One of my first technic sets and I'm so greatfull for it
Great review, i just brought one after the build i continue watching to avoid spoilers haha 👍
I love this set , I bought pieces and built mine with all original pieces and colors ❤
Masterclass from the Technic Team from back in the day! It would be possible to remake it today with PU since the hub has 4 ports.
Fantastic. Enjoyed this. My only suggestion would be to spend more time explaining and showing how the gearbox works - it's your passion and I think it would be really interesting. In fact you could even do a video focused just on the details of gearboxes as it's kind of your calling card!
If you're thinking of doing more retro technic vids can I nominate 8868 Air Claw Tech Rig? Not as sophisticated as this and no gearbox but still groundbreaking for its time using two pneumatic cylinders to create rotation of a turntable. Also I'm just mega nostalgic for it as it was the best ever LEGO set I had as a kid.
Great suggestions! I actually have the air tech claw rig new in its box so I’ll definitely review it soon
@4:40 the linkage with 2 axles through it, is genius!
i know right
I loved this set so much Lego technic in the old days were better
Many of the older sets were better
I love Unbrickme because he's able to embody the joy that a new Lego set gives❤
I’m so glad that I was able to do that
this set is wonderful and mind blowing, great tracks and insane superstructure. I have used and only problem: typical old electronics. Best full rc set.
I am very glad you reviewed this amazing set. I fortunately bought 2 of these sets new when released and both A and B builds in my office. I agree with a best function with a few more model from a few sets released around this time as well (Unimog, Mobil Crane 42009).
Looking for more...
ok.
Truly the best excavator i hope i can buy it somewhere for a reasonable price
It is so good holy
I absolutely love this set. Mostly for the mechanism.
Which mechanism
All of it. I'm old school. Bluetooth doesn't need to be in a toaster. A computer is not needed for brake lights to work.
I don't know why, but mine can barely move, and the boom won't even lift - the motors simply stall. I have rebuilt it 5 times, done everything right, but it just seems ridiculously under-powered. I'm running lithium AA batteries in the box - which work very well in any other model. Linear actuators do not seem to be a problem either. Any advice on how can I make it move exactly like in the video without having to build the ultimate mod?
This is funny because I actually just started building this recently (but now im waiting for more parts)
Nice you’re using your own pieces from your collection?
@@Unbrickme all except the linear actuators
This is a really good Set. Fun to build, great Functions. I'd like to see the video of the b model.
maybe i'll do a b model video of this set if this video gets a lot of views
Posted 11 seconds ago 🤣. Also, yes, I agree with you, the 8043 Motorized Excavator is one of the best sets. (I say “one of” because there are other amazing LEGO Technic sets)
Wish that LEGO continued this set…they made the 10220 Volkswagen T1 Van stay in production for 9 years. I wish it was the 8043 Excavator which stayed in production.
Lego needs to rerelease the 8043
More than Interesting... Legendary
Exactly!
Time to watch!
Thanks!
I sadly didn't reach this set in time ... fortunately, there's one will-not-be-named company which makes almost identical, but upgraded version of this digger. In terms of quality, bricks are non reckognisable from LEGO and everything clicks and works flawlessly. Finished it yesterday and I'm so glad that at least this was I can have my Technic Digger, which I wanted since I was a kid (in 2010), but never had enough money.
This is a phenomenal set. Much better than the Libherr Crawler. It is SO much cheaper and even included a gearbox. This is a example of the golden age of Technic
I might have accidently bought part of this set last Sunday. I was buying a Ev3 and the guy had tons of extra power function parts, and gear stuff and it had the bucket.
Wow that’s awesome
youtuber brick science pushed that excavator to its limits by diging dirt
I think I gotta just eat the price tag and grab one of these off eBay.
fr
My kids are visiting me after 3 and half years and my dad just told me yesterday to build this with them.
Good luck
I miss power functions. I don't want to control these with software. On another note, do you think LEGO will re-introduce some sort of robotics system like Mindstorms but updated? To me, that's the best place for software-controlled LEGO.
Amazing video!!!, This I one of my favorite sets!!!, Have you built the Lego LR 13000 yet?
I haven’t built it yet
@@Unbrickme when do you plan to build it/ post the vid on CZcams?
ok, bought one :3
Historical and Technological Marvel! The Legend!
Building this wonder gives you +10 science in each city
My brain already melted by 1:30
Awesome
is it crane time yet ?
I build mine in red and even upgraded it with bigger motors, other gear ratio, newer pieces etc, because it was weak with the small motors
That sounds awesome! Fun fact, there was an orange prototype of this set
@@Unbrickme i wish i could show you a picture of it. Upgrading it was a lot of fun, thats why i also did it with the orange unimog. I build mine in green because we actually have a real 421 model in green
@@brix_max email me the pictures
Сделал то же самое, использовав 4 L C+ и buwizz 3.0.
cool so you use the energizer lithium AA, i heard they are powerful batteries.
They’re the best! And they never leak
I wish lego would make excavator again but this time with original licenses like cat or volvo.
LEGO should re-release this for all new fans to enjoy this set at a more affordable price
Absolutely!
Hi,where did you buy the set?
Bricklink
I wanted this set SO BAD as a kid, but never got it
Yea, me too. Gladly, I got it's cousin and finished yesterday and Im so so happy.
Ny dad has this set, so one day i asked him if i could build it. He said yes, so i got all the parts and started building. When i finaly finished i tried the model, but it didnt fully work for some reason, and i didnt understand why, than i found out i forgot to place one of the beginning gears...
Had to take it fully apart and than rebuild it :/
Did you get a new one or used the old one and built it again?
New one obviously since i cut the seals of the box, and had to open all of the plastic bags
@@Unbrickme oh i skipped right to the building part sorry lol
Since technic have b models, updated power functions and other cool stuff
But if the Liebherr have gearbox it have same prize but less motors, i meant the cat buldozer have gearbox and four motors but same prize
also this is kind of like better than rc excavators rc excavators just com in fully built and learn nothing but to play with it on the other hand this lego excavator teaches you the juicy physics of how it works
Can I buy this set somewhere?
Yes,on bricklink for example
Fact : if you add the same gearbox in 42100 you dont have the bucket clam function
I was 12 years old when I saw this set on the store shelves. I saved up for it for so long and in the end it sold out without a trace. So I could not purchase this set, which I still wish for
I buil whell loader and lieberr r9800
this set costs 1 thousand united states dollars i believe this is a good price because of how much fun
Actually around 500 for a sealed copy on bricklink. Yes, it’s absolutely worth it!
@@Unbrickme ahh, some have gone for around 900, but thats likely poor pricing. i may consider buying a used copy. (ps thanks for always reading and responding to my coments)
6:04 RIP your Mclaren Senna GTR
I just had another sealed copy lying around. My main one is still built
This was the golden age of technic, almost all unliscenced, and even the small models focused on the functions and mechanical mechanisms, they were aldo reasonably priced. I wish lego could move back to this sort of product line, and focus less on the technic cars. The problem with the cars is they dont look as good as the brick built ones, and they dont provide many technic functions.
Agreed! At this point the only licensed technic set was the Honda asimo. One year later we got the unimog
How dare you scratch the bucket
I got real excited until I realized it is retired
4 motors and a gearbox!! We don’t get that in any other set
Actually we get that in the cat d11 bulldozer, but the mechanisms of that bulldozer aren’t as advanced
@@Unbrickme cool
@@Unbrickme and I love your channel I hope the crane comes soon
I built the ultimate version with better gears and controls, designed by Jurgen
the stuff and gearing thru the turntable causes tons of backlash (very very bad)
yay no licensing
I had this set, pretty sure it didn't come with electronics though?
Thats impossible
