- Hi Guys, today I’m reviewing the Mr. Coffee 4 cup coffee maker. LINK to Mr. Coffee 4-cup coffee maker: amzn.to/1GRTlRf It measures 9.5inches tall 6 inches wide and 8 inches deep. It won’t take up room on your countertop even in the tiniest kitchens. The glass decanter is adorable, have you ever seen a smaller decanter?

When I opened the box I didn’t think 4 cups of coffee would fit in here but it does. The housing is plastic. The unit has one button for turning the machine on and off. That’s it, no programming, no clock, nothing else and you really don’t need anything else if you just want a basic coffee maker. The unit comes with a removable filter basket. You can use paper filters or buy a permanent filter separately. There is a water window on both sides of the unit and you can fill water in the reservoir from either side. There is a max fill line for 4 cups. The warming plate is non-stick. There is cord storage in the back of the unit.
Before making your first cup of coffee, clean the unit. Run just plain water through the coffee maker once or twice. I ran ¼ cup vinegar and 3 cups water through it once and just water through it twice. It’s my usual coffee cleaning method.
I’ll brew 4 cups of coffee which is the maximum. Make sure the filter basket is pushed in with the square tab in the middle. I’m using a basket style paper filter and 4 tbsps of ground coffee. This club size coffee can is almost bigger than the coffee maker!! Close the lid until you hear a snap. Fill the unit with water to the max fill line. It’s not difficult to fill with the small decanter. The lid is a bit flimsy and you might have to push it back into place if it comes off.
Place the decanter on the warming plate. Make sure it’s lined up correctly in the center so the coffee flows directly into the decanter and not everywhere else. Push the switch and a green light will come on which means the coffee maker is on and brewing will start. There is a pause and serve feature where you can pull the decanter out while brewing. You just have to put the decanter back within 30 seconds. It took 5 minutes to brew the 4 cups of coffee. The plate will keep the coffee warm. Remember that you have to manually turn the unit off by pressing the switch. There is no auto shut off. I can already tell from the color of the coffee that it looks like the perfect strength. Add some sugar and half and half. Taste it. The coffee is not weak, not bitter. It’s a surprisingly good and smooth cup of coffee. I’m not just surprised but shocked that this little unit makes really good coffee because the 12-cup Mr. Coffee I reviewed a few weeks ago made weak coffee.
The filter basket, decanter and lid are top rack dishwasher safe but I would just wash it with warm soapy water. This 4 cup coffee maker is about $20. It’s compact, makes a really good, hot cup of coffee and is inexpensive. It’s perfect for one or two people.

I purchased this machine last week at my local supermarket for $12.99. I love it. I had a Kerug for less than a year and got tired of the one cup brewing, and luke warm coffee. This machine is great and the coffee is HOT.

Yes I just switched over from a Keurig 2.0 that was 5 yrs old to a basic flip switch 5 cup mainstays and really like it as well. Less maintenance than a Keurig system. Less waste with no plastic pods and no extra water setting in the unit to cause water scaling built up. Refill it each time u brew. Plus the mainstays retails for 9.99 new and the Keurig which I got as a store display model so got it way cheaper than normal price think it was around 65.00. So no brained right!

I have this one and it's perfect for drip. Simple. No programming crap to worry about. 1 cup label on it = 5oz, so it makes a total of 20oz.

Have used Mr Coffee 4 cup over many many years...makes wonderful coffee...only minor thing is. if you add cold milk, you have to put the cup of coffee in a microwave for about 40 secs to bring back to proper and enjoyable heat level....no big deal......

Thank you. The instruction booklet was not as thorough as you are. Am having trouble with my paper filter folding while brewing and allowing coffee grounds into the coffee. Trying to trouble shoot.
I accidently got cone filters and work great. Just press the bottom of them a bit.

I brought mine used and am very happy with it. One question though is there a trick someone may know to not have the water when it shoots into the filter from making a bare spot.I have been using a spoon to try and make the coffee grounds even again so as to make a better cup of coffee.

+Jason Aylsworth Hi Jason, sorry but the brew basket is necessary for using the machine. You can get a replacement online. Until then, put coffee grinds in a measuring cup, pour boiling water and let steep for a few minutes. Strain into another cup - coffee without a machine :)

how to make coffee. get a tin pan put about 4 cups of water into it, put your stove on max heat or if you are using a fire then put the pot over the fire. then add 3tsps of coffee grounds, let it come to a rolling boil (trust me it tastes best this way), and it's cheaper doing it this way and I have been making it like this for over 13 years. make it like this and you will never go back. (this is also called cowboy coffee) (btw this can also be made in a kettle and or literally any metal pot) don't worry the grounds will settle to the bottom by adding about a cup of cold water or just using a piece of cheesecloth or a coffee filter to filter off the grounds. thank me later.

I bought one just like this, and just pulled it out, and the glass broke. I'm really annoyed because I'm wondering why it had nothing protecting the glass from falling out. Delivery companies like UPS take shipping glass seriously and try their best to protect glass during shipping. Not 1 cup of coffee. I want my money or a replacement.

You really can't "blame" an inanimate object for making a weak cup of coffee. You just didn't add enough coffee ! lol
I can't seem to find paper filter cups that fit in the permanent filter basket. (That fits in the filter basket on top)
It shows in my manual for my 5-cup unit that it should fit in the permanent filter basket. I want to use both together because I want maximum filtering ! I don't like the resin type stuff that's in my coffee, when I don't use both filters together !
If anyone has seen these smaller paper cup filters (maximum 3 inches on bottom) please let me know ? Thank you so much !! 👍😊
By accident I bought the cone filters, so I just press the bottom of them a bit and no resin at all. Hope this helps. Perfect cup every time.

+deangelo webster Hi Deangelo, it's possible the paper filter is not sitting right in the basket or the filter may have collapsed while brewing. Make sure the filter is sitting up straight against the basket before brewing. You can buy a permanent filter separately so you don't have to worry about paper filters collapsing. Hope that helps. I think I found one to buy. I been using the 4 cup Mr. Coffee for almost a decade. I woke up the other day, plugged in my pot & poop, the light came on but the water was not dropping. I do not need anything fancy. It's just for me any more. The little 4 pot is perfect. It's the 2nd one I bought in the last 9 years. I 💓 this style. I even run water through it sometimes to brew my tea, because I wore out my tea kettle. ☺️

The 8-12 would be too big unless you fold it and adjust it.

I bought it for my office. It worked only once! The second time that I used the water was spilled all over the counter! I checked inside and I noticed that the valve was loose. I inserted the valve again in the hole but every time that I lift the lid it comes off. After I insert the valve again I have to hold the lid but it brews only two cups of coffee and makes lots of steam. THE VIDEO IS MISSING SHOWING THE INSIDE AND HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEMS!
Hi, that shouldn't happen with a new coffee maker. I suggest you exchange it as the unit your purchased may be defective. I have used this coffee maker many many times since this review and have not had any issues. Hope that helps :)

You're welcome! All the parts can be washed in warm soapy water. To clean the unit, run a cycle with 1/4 cup vinegar and 3 cups water. Then run two cycles with just plain water 😀

I believe you just have to put the teabag inside instead of the filter+coffee, that's what I'd usually do.

Maybe you should have brewed more then once with that turd maker machine to find out that more often then not you have a coffee grind slurry in your pot instead of just coffee ... been using Mr coffee for 40 plus years never a problem till someone gave me one of these turd makers and in 1 single brew drank more then 40 years worth of coffee grinds .. not a 1 time thing mind you so far at least 60 plus times pretty much 8 out of 10 times coffee is made you end up with tons of coffee grinds only ket it because with a thorough cleaning of grinds from machine you can make an infinite amount of TEA with it from lipton tea bags without issue.. so in closing only use to make lipton tea with unless slurry coffee grinds is your thing
